Abstract: This study aimed to discuss the role of Tuanku Hasan Basri (THB) in developing Tariqa Shattariyya (TS) in Medan City. THB, a murshid of Tariqa Shattariya from Ulakan, Pariaman, West Sumatra, comes from the Pariaman community as the practitioners of TS integrated into the prevailing social traditions in Medan City. Therefore, the study question was about the role of THB in maintaining and developing TS. The method used refers to qualitative research and will present in-depth descriptive-analytical information. The approach chosen is life history, which seeks to explore and explain the history and role of the figures studied. The data source comes from the figure studied, namely THB. Data was collected using the stages of observation, interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis is carried out by separating primary data from supporting data. Then, interpret the data. The results showed that THB played a role in increasing the number of suraus developments affiliated with TS in Medan City and lead to 27 active teaching groups as a spiritual and traditional leader.Keywords: Tariqa Shattariyya, Tuanku Hasan Basri, Surau, Local Wisdom

THE JUDICIAL RULINGS PERTAINING TO THE HAGIA SOPHIA IN TURKEY AND THE BABRI MOSQUE IN INDIA: An Analysis 与土耳其哈吉亚-索菲亚和印度巴卜里清真寺有关的司法裁决:分析

Abstract: On November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court of India issued a ruling allowing for the construction of a temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Ram on the site of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, Uttara Pradesh. Similarly, on July 10, 2020, the State of Council, the highest administrative court in Turkey, issued an order to convert the status of Istanbul's Hagia Sophia from a museum back into a mosque. The court's decision in both nations has been regarded as a transformative political development within their respective contexts. This decision has garnered praise from certain individuals, while also attracting criticism from others, both domestically and internationally. This article is thematically based, library-focused, and qualitative. The article examines and evaluates both cases based on the existing evidence pertaining to the historical structures, and endeavours to propose the most persuasive perspective to adopt in such situations. The study's findings suggest that the judicial decision under scrutiny exhibits a greater inclination towards political considerations rather than rational ones.Keywords: Hagia Sophia, Babri Mosque, Judicial Rulings, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Narendra Modi

Abstract: This study aims to analyze Al-Mukhlis Mosque as an Indian-Muslims heritage at Tebing Tinggi City. Data were based on Religious Court documents and interviews of the mosque’s managers. Reliable history of the mosque could be established only since 1920s. Its historical milestones includes 1) the first waqf in 1920 by Kuti Kaka, 2) change of name to Al-Mukhlis Mosque in 1950, 3) main restoration in 1978, 4) legal waqf status by Religious Court in 1986, and 5) a total renovation in 2014. Al-Mukhlis Mosque current management is appointed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The mosque activities include worship, Islamic education, and general social activities. Finally, its Indian identity remains socially acknowledged because of the presence of the Indian-Muslim community as its organizer and funder. The mosque might become the starting point for the revival of Indian-Muslims’ roles of the city.Keywords: Indian-Muslim, Mosque, East Sumatra, North Sumatra, Islam

Abstract: This article reviews the perspectives of ulama in shaping the locality of tolerance in the public sphere of education in Langsa, Aceh by highlighting the fact that there is local tolerance as a critical argument against the hegemony of the universal meaning of tolerance. Using a qualitative methodology, this article explores the perspective of scholars regarding the limits of tolerance such as clothing, social interaction, religious and organizational activities, and the right to receive religious education among non-Muslim students and students. This study produced several findings, first, the way to treat diversity in the Langsa-Aceh public education space is distinctive because the ulama's perspective on tolerance presents local practice both in terms of dress styles, religious and organizational activism, and religious education. Second, the perspective of these scholars reconstructs the meaning of tolerance which was originally universal in a direction that is local and contextual.Keywords: Ulama, Locality, Tolerance, Education, Aceh

PSYCHOLOGICAL HANDLING OF FORMER DEVIAN WITH ISLAMIC EDUCATION AT PASURUAN METAL PESANTREN 巴苏鲁安金属学校伊斯兰教育对前离经叛道者的心理处理

Abstract: The deviation is deviant behaviour that hurts the perpetrator, family, and society. The former deviant who wanted a better life after coming out of the abyss of darkness did not get a proper place. Unlike other rehabilitation institutions, the Pasuruan Metal Pesantren offers a pattern of psychological treatment for former deviants with religious education. This study uses a qualitative approach with interviews and observations as data mining in the field. By using physical therapy (such as Wudu’, prayer, writing the Qur’an, and morning exercises) and spiritually (such as reading and memorising the Qur’an, dhikr assemblies, prayers, religious lectures, and taklim assemblies), former Devian can recover and return to her family and society as before.Keywords: Devian, Psychology, Pesantren, Religious therapy. Abstrak: Deviasi merupakan perilaku menyimpang yang membawa dampak buruk bagi pelaku, keluarga, dan masyarakat. para mantan devian yang sejatinya menginginkan kehidupan lebih baik pasca keluar dari jurang kegelapan tidak mendapat tempat yang layak. Berbeda dengan instansi rehabilitasi lainnya, Pesantren Metal Pasuruan menawarkan pola penanganan psikologis bagi para mantan devian dengan pendidikan keagamaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan wawancara dan observasi sebagai penggalian data di lapangan. Dengan menggunakan terapi fisik (seperti Wudu’, Sholat, menulis al-Qur’an, dan senam pagi) dan ruhani (seperti membaca dan menghafal al-Qur’an, majelis dzikir, doa, ceramah agama, dan majelis taklim), para mantan devian dapat sembuh dan kembali kepada keluarga dan masyarakat seperti semula.Kata Kunci: Devian, Psikologi, Pesantren, Terapi agama

TABOT TRADITION AND ACCULTURATIVE RELIGIOUS TRADITION OF THE BENGKULU COMMUNITY 班库鲁社区的禁忌传统和多元文化的宗教传统

Abstract: This article aims to explain the Tabot tradition and its cultural construction with the Bengkulu people as a minority group. The Tabot tradition experienced a kind of acculturation process in which two or more cultures met and made contact. Using Berry’s acculturation theory with a qualitative approach and ethnographic methods, this study resulted in a finding that the Tabut tradition resulted from a process of cultural acculturation between different religious and cultural contacts. In its journey, the Tabot is no longer a non-formal tradition but has become a local Bengkulu community organisation with the formation of the Tabot Harmony Family (KKT). The strategy chosen by KKT is to maintain its cultural and community heritage is integration. Menggunakan teori akulturasi Berry dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode etnografi, penelitian ini menghasilkan sebuah temuan bahwa Tabut adalah hasil dari proses akulturasi budaya antara kontak agama dan budaya yang berbeda. Dalam perjalanannya, Tabut bukan lagi sebuah adat tradisi non-formal, melainkan telah menjadi sebuah organisasi masyarakat lokal Bengkulu dengan terbentuknya Keluarga Kerukunan Tabut (KKT). Strategi yang dipilih KKT ialah untuk mempertahankan warisan budaya dan komunitasnya adalah integrasi. Abstract: This research spotlights YouTube’s utilization as a platform for intriguing Muslims and proselytizing Salafi and Nahdhatul 'Ulama's (NU) doctrines in the context of ideological contestation in Indonesia. This aim was motivated by the struggle for religious authority between NU and Salafis that has occurred in Indonesia since the beginning of the emergence of Salafis in the 1970s. The doctrine of Puritanism brought by Salafis is the key to the ideological battle with NU, which has the opposite doctrine. Thus, the contestation spread to the fight for the masses. One medium used as an object for spreading doctrine is YouTube. This use of YouTube is encouraged by their awareness that YouTube is an effective platform for proselytizing and arguing with each other. Therefore, this research explores the ideological contestation of the two groups from the aspect of the doctrine they spread and the ways they attract the masses by analyzing lecture videos from YouTube channels affiliated with each group. Based on the content and video quantity, this research argues that the massive method of being charged with Salafis is slowly becoming a strong challenge for the existence of NU. The method used is a theory by Heidi A. Abstract: This article examines Sheikh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary's role in Islamic education. The main methodology used in this study is historical analysis using a character study approach. A strong scientific spirit and religious family influences were important contributors to Addary's activity. Addary concentrated on three things throughout his life, including bureaucracy, social religion and islamic education initiator. He was an ASN (civil servant) of the Ministry of Religion and the founding Dean of IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang's Faculty of Education Padangsidimpuan branch. Addary was involved in NU's social and religious life, and he was a well-known intellectual figure in the area of Islamic education.Keywords: Islamic Education, Mandailing Ulama, Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Abstrak: Artikel ini menganalisis ketokohan Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary  dalam pendidikan Islam. Analisis sejarah dengan pendekatan studi tokoh menjadi metodologi utama. Faktor keluarga yang religius dan semangat ilmiah yang tinggi merupakan faktor yang sangat berkontribusi dalam aktivitas Addary. Universitas Nahdhatul Ulama Sumatera Utara dan Universitas Islam Negeri Padangsidimpuan merupakan institusi yang digagas, sementara karya dalam berbagai bidang seperti tauhid, fikih, akhlak tasawuf, tafsir dan hadis merupakan kepakaran yang ditekuni. Dalam kehidupannya, Addary berfokus pada tiga aspek yaitu birokrat, sosial keagamaan dan organisatoris. Beliau merupakan Aparatur Sipil Negara Kementerian Agama dan merupakan Dekan pertama di Fakultas Tarbiyah Padangsidimpuan cabang IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang. Abstract: The majority of Muslims in Indonesia adhere to the Sunni school, but a small number of Muslims in this country adhere to the Shia Imamiyah school, which has been actively involved in developing the Islamic intellectual tradition of Persia (Iran), currently the center of intellectual and spiritual Shiism in the world. This study examines the transmission of the Persian Islamic intellectual tradition to the archipelago in the contemporary era. The study is a literature review, employing the social history approach. It argues that translation activities carried out by individuals or groups of Shia Muslims in Indonesia, as well as scientific research conducted by some students and lecturers at Islamic universities in Indonesia, has become the most important factors in the process of transmitting philosophy from Persia to Indonesia. This study enriches the understanding of the history of Islamic philosophy in Indonesia. This study argues that Persian philosophy has influenced the development of Islamic philosophy in Indonesia. Keywords: Islamic philosophy, Persian, Archipelago, Islamic intellectual tradition Abstrak: Mayoritas Muslim di Indonesia merupakan penganut aliran Sunni, akan tetapi ternyata sebagian kecil Muslim di negeri ini menganut aliran Syiah Imamiyah yang kemudian terbukti secara aktif ikut mengembangkan tradisi intelektual Islam Persia (Iran) yang saat ini menjadi pusat intelektual dan spiritual Syiah di dunia. Studi ini mengkaji transmisi tradisi intelektual Islam Persia ke Nusantara pada era kontemporer. Studi ini merupakan studi kepustakaan. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan sejarah sosial. Studi ini mengajukan argumen bahwa kegiatan penerjemahan yang dilakoni oleh individu atau sekelompok Muslim Syiah di Indonesia, dan juga riset ilmiah yang dilakukan oleh sebagian mahasiswa dan dosen di perguruan tinggi Islam di Indonesia telah menjadi faktor terpenting dalam proses transmisi ilmu filsafat dari Tanah Persia ke Indonesia. Studi ini menambah gugusan referensi tentang sejarah filsafat Islam di Indonesia. This study examines the transmission of the Persian Islamic intellectual tradition to the archipelago in the contemporary era. The study is a literature review, employing the social history approach. It argues that translation activities carried out by individuals or groups of Shia Muslims in Indonesia, as well as scientific research conducted by some students and lecturers at Islamic universities in Indonesia, has become the most important factors in the process of transmitting philosophy from Persia to Indonesia. This study enriches the understanding of the history of Islamic philosophy in Indonesia. This study argues that Persian philosophy has influenced the development of Islamic philosophy in Indonesia. Keywords: Islamic philosophy, Persian, Archipelago, Islamic intellectual tradition Abstrak: Mayoritas Muslim di Indonesia merupakan penganut aliran Sunni, akan tetapi ternyata sebagian kecil Muslim di negeri ini menganut aliran Syiah Imamiyah yang kemudian terbukti secara aktif ikut mengembangkan tradisi intelektual Islam Persia (Iran) yang saat ini menjadi pusat intelektual dan spiritual Syiah di dunia. Studi ini mengkaji transmisi tradisi intelektual Islam Persia ke Nusantara pada era kontemporer. Studi ini merupakan studi kepustakaan. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan sejarah sosial. Studi ini mengajukan argumen bahwa kegiatan penerjemahan yang dilakoni oleh individu atau sekelompok Muslim Syiah di Indonesia, dan juga riset ilmiah yang dilakukan oleh sebagian mahasiswa dan dosen di perguruan tinggi Islam di Indonesia telah menjadi faktor terpenting dalam proses transmisi ilmu filsafat dari Tanah Persia ke Indonesia. Studi ini menambah gugusan referensi tentang sejarah filsafat Islam di Indonesia. Abstract:  Tafsir Al-Quränul Karim by Ulama Tiga Serangkai from Binjai North Sumatra has not enticed the attention of scholars of interpretation works because this indigenous text, written in 1937, has been in scarcity from circulation since halting printing. Existing research on Tafsir Al-Quränul Karim by Abdul Halim Hasan, Zainal Arifin Abbas and Abdurrahim Haitami contains misleading information concerning the date of birth of the mufassir. Likewise, the analysis of this commentary book regarding the number of verses interpreted, the sources of reference, and the method of interpretation still needs to be clarified. This study endeavours to continue the existing research by clarifying data about the originality of mufassir and completing the analysis of their commentaries by conducting interviews with the mufassir's relatives, documentation, observations at the mufassir's residences and grave sites, as well as literature study of the manuscripts of this commentary works. The study found that the mufassir in their interpretation using twenty-two books of interpretation, three mu'jams and several Islamic references written by both Muslims and orientalists and even the Bible. While the method of interpretation uses manhaj tahlili, the interpretation style is social (al-adab al-ijtimâ'i).Keywords: Tafsir Al-Quränul Karim, Abdul Halim Hasan, Ulama Tiga Serangkai, Qur’anic exegeses, Indonesia archipelago.Abstrak: Tafsir Al-Quränul Karim karya Ulama Tiga Serangkai asal Binjai Sumatera Utara belum menarik perhatian para ahli tafsir karena teks pribumi yang ditulis tahun 1937 ini sudah langka peredarannya sejak berhenti dicetak. Penelitian yang ada tentang Tafsir Al-Quränul Karim oleh Abdul Halim Hasan, Zainal Arifin Abbas dan Abdurrahim Haitami mengandung informasi yang menyesatkan tentang tanggal lahir mufasir. Demikian juga analisis kitab tafsir ini mengenai jumlah ayat yang ditafsirkan, sumber rujukan, dan metode penafsiran masih perlu diperjelas. Kajian ini berupaya melanjutkan penelitian yang sudah ada dengan mengklarifikasi data tentang keaslian mufasir dan melengkapi analisis tafsir mereka dengan melakukan wawancara dengan kerabat mufasir, dokumentasi, observasi ke tempat tinggal dan makam mufasir, serta studi pustaka terhadap naskah-naskah tersebut. Kajian ini menemukan bahwa para mufasir dalam penafsirannya menggunakan dua puluh dua kitab tafsir, tiga mu'jam dan beberapa referensi Islam yang ditulis baik oleh Muslim maupun orientalis bahkan Injil.
