Blogging become popular due to its ease of use and publication, which influences the growth of digital information environments. Therefore, studies are needed to optimize the organization of information in the blog, to contribute in its development. Using the direct observation of non-participatory, analysis was performed on 6 blogs of university libraries to identify the elements of Information Architecture (IA) that is considered essential and optional for the structural development of a blog. Thus, were conducted planning guidelines for blogs and a model for its evaluation, and were proposed specific elements of IA for blogs, to contribute to the study of Digital Information Architecture.

As competencias ganham destaque cada vez maior e se evidenciam na competitividade entre organizacoes, sendo que a identificacao das mesmas e essencial para a melhoria da qualidade dos servicos. Nesse contexto, tambem as bibliotecas devem buscar formas de melhoria na prestacao de seus servicos e, consequentemente, o bibliotecario precisa desenvolver e aperfeicoar suas competencias para realizar as atividades. O setor de referencia e uma das atividades centrais das bibliotecas e os bibliotecarios de referencia, por prestarem atendimento direto ao usuario, se deparam fortemente com esse novo aspecto de prestacao de servico. Alem disso, as mudancas que ocorrem no âmbito das bibliotecas fazem surgir novas funcoes e papeis para este profissional, o que exige que desenvolva, constantemente, novas competencias. Observando-se esses aspectos, mostrou-se importante investigar as competencias do bibliotecario no servico de referencia, com vistas a melhoria da qualidade desse servico, sendo este o foco desta dissertacao. Na pesquisa, analisou-se as competencias do bibliotecario no servico de referencia de bibliotecas universitarias, considerando-se duas perspectivas: o processo de referencia tradicional e o processo de referencia educativo. Para isso, foram identificadas e caracterizadas as etapas dos dois tipos de processo de referencia, tradicional e educativo, e definidas as competencias necessarias ao bibliotecario de referencia em cada uma das etapas. Em seguida, buscou-se a confirmacao da relevância das competencias definidas junto a especialistas da area. Como passo seguinte, verificou-se a relevância e a ocorrencia das competencias junto a bibliotecarios atuantes no servico de referencia de bibliotecas universitarias. A partir da analise dos dados coletados, foi possivel perceber que o servico de referencia de bibliotecas universitarias passa por transformacoes, destacando-se o crescimento gradativo do processo de referencia educativo, que esta ligado a capacitacao e treinamento dos usuarios para uso de recursos e fontes informacionais. Constatou-se, tambem, que o conjunto de competencias definido e consistente e pertinente para a apropriada execucao das atividades do bibliotecario no servico de referencia de bibliotecas universitarias. Porem, foi possivel verificar a existencia de lacunas nas competencias apresentadas pelos bibliotecarios respondentes, as quais podem influenciar diretamente na qualidade dos servicos prestados. Por fim, conclui-se que uma adequada gestao das competencias induz a qualidade dos servicos oferecidos no servico de referencia, considerando-se o contexto das bibliotecas universitarias.

The interaction amongst the ‘user’, ‘information’, and ‘text’ is of interest to Information Science although it has deserved insufficient attention in the literature. This issue is addressed by this paper whose main purpose is to contribute to the discussion of theoretical affinity between the cognitive viewpoint in Information Science and the information processing approach in Cognitive Psychology. Firstly, the interdisciplinary nature of Information Science is discussed and justified as a means to deepen and strengthen its theoretical framework. Such interdisciplinarity helps to avoid stagnation and keep pace with other disciplines. Secondly, the discussion takes into consideration the cognitive paradigm, which originates the cognitive viewpoint approach in Information Science. It is highlighted that the cognitive paradigm represented a change in the Social Sciences due to the shift of focus from the object and the signal to the individual. Besides that, it sheds light to the notion of models of worlds, i.e., the systems of categories and concepts that guide the interaction between the individual and his/her environment. Thirdly, the theoretical assumptions of the cognitive viewpoint approach are discussed, with emphasis on the concept of ‘information’, as resulting of cognitive processes and as related to the notion of ‘text’. This approach points out the relevance of understanding the interaction amongst users, information, and text. However, it lacks further development. Using notions which are common to both approaches, some of the gaps can be fulfilled. Finally, the concept of ‘text’, its constituents and structures are presented from the perspective of text comprehension models and according to the information processing approach. As a concluding remark, it is suggested that bringing together the cognitive viewpoint and the information processing approach can be enriching and fruitful to the both Information Science and Cognitive Psychology, for example in the development of more effective and humanised information and knowledge management models.

A study of the development of the introduction of the Brazilian Public Archival Institutions on the internet and of the processes of transferring archival information via the network. The first stage of the research, in 2004, started with the existing universe of sites of Brazilian Public Archival Institutions. In the second stage of the research in 2009, the universe was updated to analysis and the sites were investigated using the same criteria as the previous stage: the services that are available, the level of relationship with the user, the types of consultations that can be made to the collections and elements related to the content, the design and structure of the sites. The importance of this comparative study is to verify the changes that occurred during the interval, if there was growth and or advancements and if so, what they were. The site of an archival institution offers services already available at their physical locations, either totally or partially, as well as suggesting new possibilities to the archival institutions. This new electronic channel requires actions in order to attend the demands of the network users. The introduction of archival collections on the internet implicates new challenges in the management of this information.

This article discusses the new profile of accounting vis-a-vis the challenges of the era in which we experience the complexity that requires new attitudes to design knowledge, This is the era of parceling, with deep repercussions in various fields of science, and whose consolidation of a new model of knowledge generation born shaped by collaborative acts of economic, political and social. It is a reconfiguration of the present by evaluating the past to enhance the future, impregnated with the tacit knowledge, so neglected by the existing order. Complex thinking is post-Cartesian in the sense that it perceives that the Cartesian method only applies to “the simple”. When a system is complex, nothing is obvious, because everything depends on the look that is released; the whole and the parts evolve in a dialectical way: the whole is much more than the sum of the parts and the whole is understood from its purposes. Nothing is much closer to the sciences statements than their tactical element to the decision-making, in terms of Noetic. Thus, this paper aims to feed the sense of complexity inherent to Postmodernity, stressing the noetic model based on a Wiki, where the management accounting is presented as an alternative to a debate which is central to the corporations. We address the technology and its use as a shifting support to the paradigm that permeates the global society.

Nowadays, Web catalogs in archives, libraries and museums systems are locked information resources which use their own technologies, interfaces and standards, which do not allow the navigation to occur from outside to the catalog and vice-versa. Linked Data technologies, which are a component of Semantic Web proposal, offer the possibility of interlink information resources through semantic links, thus providing users with a natural and intuitive way to navigate, independently from specific systems or interfaces. The objective of this article is to identify the potentiality of the Semantic Web technologies, in special Linked Data, in order to provide interoperability between catalogs in archives, libraries and museums. We use a qualitative methodology to achieve a state-of-the-art on the issue, using bibliographic research methods and visiting sites to collect data.

O autor trata das Linguagens Documentarias e Vocabularios Semânticos para a Web, que a Editora da Universidade Federal da Bahia apresenta aos leitores. O resultado e um texto com a potencialidade tanto de servir como introducao ao tema para o leitor nao especialista como apresentar uma sintese ampla e atualizada dos principais problemas e avancos no estudo das linguagens documentarias e vocabularios semânticos para a web. O livro compoe-se de onze (11) capitulos, delineados pelo autor, descrevendo os elementos conceituais das linguagens documentarias e dos vocabularios semânticos para a web. O primeiro capitulo trata das Bases Epistemologicas da Representacao da Informacao: origem da representacao conceitual, no qual apresenta a origem das relacoes entre conceitos; os conceitos principais e sua organizacao em macroestruturas. A paper document can be maintained for several years, even when it does not receive much proper treatment. Documents created via computers do not have such longevity and documental evidences which are crucial for the operation of the institutions – be they legal, cultural or historical ones. Recorded in digital media, those documents may disappear. The issue of digital preservation is a real problem for institutions, mainly for the ones in which the long term maintenance of documents is a legal obligation, either to support citizen’s demands or to preserve the institutional history. This article is an initiative to guide public institution managers on dealing with digital preservation issues. Here is presented a methodology for creating long term digital preservation programs for archives, as well as an example of its application in the scope of a real situation. It is expected to contribute towards the success of digital preservation initiatives through the dissemination of related basic principles.

Over the past 20 years, Internet has emerged as an efficient means to disseminate information due to its rapid and innovative way that allows the exchange of knowledge in a global perspective. Information on Environmental Education (EE) is being increasingly transmitted through different media, such as via Internet, which enables the expansion of communication and dissemination of EE knowledge, a subject that has grown remarkably in recent decades. Throughout its brief story, the term EE gained a broader meaning, encompassing not only issues of biology and health, but also issues of culture, socioeconomics, politics, pedagogy and humanism. The present study examined the type of information produced and diffused by Brazilian webpages which have been indicated, or "linked", by other webpages by the term environmental education. We used the Google search operator: allinanchor, which enabled the recovery of such webpages. Initially, we collected 837 webpages, but due to some duplication and technical problems of accessing the pages, the number of webpages analyzed was reduced to 617. These webpages were classified according to their types of domain, activity, content and social and conceptual representation. The results showed a wide involvement of the institutional spheres, named government, private sector, academia, and the third sector, which offer their initiatives and actions in EE by electronic means, including priority projects and educational programs, in which predominates the integrated vision of the relationship between man, society and environment.

This paper analyses the architecture of the digital book using indicators applied to the evaluation of the printed book and indicators applied to evaluate the performance of digital artifacts. Publishers of digital books seem interested in preserving the characteristics of the printed book in the electronic environment, adopting standards that attempt to “soften” the transition to digital media. The comparative analysis of Google Books platform was conducted using a synoptic table containing the features likely to compare between the digital and the printed book. The authors have concluded that the digital books on Google Books platform add little value to the characteristics of the printed book, subtracting from them, at the same time, some of their distinguishing features, such as portability.
