What Influences Innovation Score for Countries at Different Levels of Development? Examining the Effects of Teaching, Research and Knowledge Transfer 是什么影响了处于不同发展水平的国家的创新得分?研究教学、研究和知识转让的影响

We examine whether all three roles of universities (education, research and development, and collaboration with industry for knowledge transfer) are essential for a country’s innovation relative to other countries and its peers. The study employs OLS and path analysis to determine the significant indicators affecting the global innovation score of 131 countries, with details for each quartile of countries (by income). The study used expenses on education, government funding of secondary education, tertiary enrolment, graduates in science and technology, number of researchers, expenditures on R&D, university ranking, and university–industry collaborations as the eight explanatory variables, proxies for the three roles. At a global level, the findings reveal that a country’s innovation rank is based on all these three roles but only six of the explanatory variables. An income quartile-wise analysis indicates that innovation scores may not include the three functions. The negative impact of primary and secondary education is significant only for upper-middle-income countries. Knowledge transfer influences innovation scores mainly in very high-income countries. Within low-middle-income countries, primarily tertiary enrolment (education) affects the innovation score. Therefore, the study recommends that policymakers who seek to improve their country’s innovation scores should look at what their peer group countries are doing.

Demystifying Organization Success: A Bibliometric Analysis and Future Research Agenda 揭开组织成功的神秘面纱:文献计量分析与未来研究议程

Organizational success is multi-dimensional. Survival is essential but not a sufficient condition for the organization’s success. Considering the importance and proliferation of organizational success research, it is an opportunity to review the extant literature to guide understanding of its current and future progress. In this connection, the goal of this study is to review the performance and intellectual structure of organizational success. To do so, this study conducts a comprehensive, systematic review with bibliometric and content analysis of 370 Scopus-indexed articles based on the PRISMA framework to identify the performance (publication and citation trends, top authors and publications) and science mapping (content analysis, keyword co-occurrence analysis, bibliometric coupling) of extant literature published since 1974. This research helps to identify the most widely used 29 theories in organizational success research and provides a new avenue for future research directions. In addition to identifying key research themes, sub-themes and knowledge structures, this review would help to create value through the consolidation and quantification of the organization’s successful research evolution. This is the first comprehensive literature review article using a hybrid approach (systematic literature review, bibliometric analysis and content analysis) in organizational success.

Three Decades of Life Satisfaction: A Bibliometric Review and Research Agenda 生活满意度的三个十年:文献计量学回顾与研究议程

Over the last two decades, an increasing number of studies have examined the concept of life satisfaction. Since the concept is deeply related to multiple facets of an individual’s life, it has attracted researchers’ interest from different domains. However, the life satisfaction literature is still fragmented and heterogeneous in terms of theoretical and contextual paradigms. This study aims to deconstruct the literature from the last 31 years and (i) identify distinct research clusters, (ii) reveal some major shifts in the research over time and (iii) derive some directions and ideas for future research. Using bibliometric analysis, the article identifies four clusters, and further analysis revealed a shift in theoretical perspective in life satisfaction research. Also, emerging trends within the clusters are detected. Finally, the directions for future research conclude the article.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing businesses based on digital trends and globalization. The aim of this article is to focus on emerging research trends regarding artificial intelligence that will influence global business management. This is significant as there have been rapid changes recently regarding artificial intelligence, including the surge in interest in generative forms. This article summarizes the trends taking place in the adoption process of artificial intelligence and what business managers need to do in order to increase their competitiveness. A brief history of how artificial intelligence has developed is stated, along with the main international business uses for artificial intelligence. Implications at the managerial and policy levels are stated that highlight the relevance and interesting nature of artificial intelligence in international business.

Testing the Forecasting Prowess of Bitcoin Uncertainty in the Predictability of Stock Returns 检验比特币不确定性在预测股票回报率方面的预测能力

Motivated by the theoretical prediction of a weak link between the cryptocurrency market and stock markets, most empirical literature contends that Bitcoin is a safe hedge for the stock market. Opposing this position is the view that portrays Bitcoin as a regular, high-risk asset, such that when stock prices rise, so does Bitcoin, and vice versa. To test the validity or otherwise of this competing view, we construct a bivariate predictive model to examine the predictive power of Bitcoin uncertainty on stock returns. In contrast to the extant literature, we rely on the novel measure of uncertainty (i.e., the Bitcoin uncertainty indices, hereinafter URCY) and specify a forecasting model. The objectives of this study are to examine (i) the predictive power of UCRY indices on stock returns and (ii) the extent to which UCRY can make accurate out-of-sample forecasts. Using data for the G7 countries, among other things, our findings show that Bitcoin uncertainty indices are negative predictors of stock returns across the countries under investigation. Results also reveal that the indices are accurate and reliable predictors of stock returns in the short-to-medium term. These results are robust to accounting for structural breaks (i.e., the COVID-19 pandemic) and some macroeconomic variables. The policy implications of these results are discussed.

A Semiotic Analysis of Cultural Differences Between Australian and Emirati E-commerce Websites 澳大利亚和阿联酋电子商务网站文化差异的符号学分析

This study aimed to investigate cultural differences in the design of e-commerce websites by undertaking a semiotic analysis. The study utilized semiotic analysis methods to examine the relationships among signs, symbols and their meanings on e-commerce websites. Specifically, six popular e-commerce websites from two culturally distinct countries, Australia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), were selected for analysis. The semiotic analysis of the e-commerce websites revealed significant differences in design attributes between the two countries. Specifically, the findings showed that UAE websites emphasize visual elements such as graphics and layout to engage users aesthetically, whereas Australian websites prioritize text-based content to ensure clear and direct communication. This divergence can be attributed to cultural disparities, with Arab culture valuing additional context and Australian culture favouring a more straightforward approach. This implies that different interface designs may be necessary to effectively communicate with and cater to the diverse cultural groups within each country.

Workplace Stressors and Their Consequences on Frontliners’ Performance: A Conservation of Resources Perspective 工作场所压力及其对前线人员绩效的影响:资源保护视角

The present study aims to examine the effects of two workplace stressors (abusive supervision and co-worker incivility) on work performance among frontline employees (FLEs) based on the conservation of resources (COR) theory. The intervening effects of work stress and proactive personality are also investigated in the relationships. Self-administered structured questionnaires and structural equation models are utilized to analyse data collected from 330 FLEs. Both stressors are better suited to determine work-related stress, but stress is not a significant predictor of performance. Abusive supervision is significantly connected to a proactive personality, and that proactive personality is connected significantly to work performance. Abusive supervision predicts a significant negative relationship with work performance, however co-worker incivility with work performance reverses. This endeavour integrates the association among variables with COR theory. The research findings will guide the supervisors of FLEs to work for any emerging economy.

Alamgir Hossain","doi":"10.1177/23197145231217381","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1177/23197145231217381","url":null,"abstract":"The present study aims to examine the effects of two workplace stressors (abusive supervision and co-worker incivility) on work performance among frontline employees (FLEs) based on the conservation of resources (COR) theory. The intervening effects of work stress and proactive personality are also investigated in the relationships. Self-administered structured questionnaires and structural equation models are utilized to analyse data collected from 330 FLEs. Both stressors are better suited to determine work-related stress, but stress is not a significant predictor of performance. Abusive supervision is significantly connected to a proactive personality, and that proactive personality is connected significantly to work performance. Abusive supervision predicts a significant negative relationship with work performance, however co-worker incivility with work performance reverses. This endeavour integrates the association among variables with COR theory. Interplay Among Responsible Leadership, Corporate Social Responsibility Perspective and Organizational Citizenship Behaviour Towards Environment: A Study of the Indian IT Sector 责任型领导、企业社会责任视角与组织环境公民行为之间的相互作用:印度 IT 行业研究

The environmental degradation and consequent scarcity of resources have compelled organizations to implement strategies and policies that prioritize the attainment of a sustainable environment. The significance of employees’ pro-environment behaviour is increasingly recognized and is being promoted by organizations that focus on preserving the environment. Considering the importance of pro-environment behaviour, this study investigates the relationship among responsible leadership, corporate social responsibility (CSR) perspective and organizational citizenship behaviour towards environment (OCBE). This employee-level study adopted social cognitive theory to examine the context–behaviour framework. The data are collected from information technology (IT) professionals using a stratified sampling technique. The analysis of 503 respondents using PLS-SEM concludes that responsible leadership and CSR perspective have a positive relationship with OCBE. The study also confirms the partial mediating role of the CSR perspective in the relationship between responsible leadership and OCBE. The study identifies organizational-level contextual factors such as responsible leadership and CSR perspective that promote an environment-friendly behaviour among employees, i.e., OCBE. The paper extends the context–behaviour framework literature and highlights the benefits of OCBE in the organization.

This study investigates the mediating influence of perceived ease of use on the relationship among faculty perspective, students’ perspective, technology perspective and the effectiveness of online learning. Employing a causal-comparative research design, data were collected from 390 respondents using a five-point Likert scale. Structural equation modelling through AMOS was employed as the data analysis tool. The research findings reveal that perceived ease of use plays a crucial mediating role in the association among faculty perspective, students’ perspective, technology perspective and the effectiveness of online learning. The results underscore the significance of user experience and the ease with which individuals interact with online learning platforms in influencing the overall effectiveness of online education. These findings offer valuable insights into enhancing the design and implementation of online learning systems, with the aim of improving user satisfaction and maximizing the educational outcomes of online learning environments. As technology continues to play an integral role in modern education, understanding the role of perceived ease of use becomes paramount in creating engaging and effective online learning experiences. Future research avenues may delve deeper into specific factors that contribute to perceived ease of use, further enriching our understanding of the intricate dynamics between user perspectives and online learning effectiveness.

The Role of Internal Communication on Employee Outcomes: A Review and Direction 内部沟通对员工绩效的作用:回顾与方向

Despite the importance of internal communication (IC) in organization and management studies, its role or impact on employee outcomes (specifically employee loyalty, commitment and citizenship behaviour) remains understudied. To address the preceding gap, this article systematically reviews the role of IC and its impact on employee outcomes. Our analysis reveals four critical themes, crisis events, culture/climate, organizational change and managers’ roles, where IC effectively influences the discussed employee outcomes. By summarizing the findings, we propose an integrated framework for researchers to move the conversation on the part of IC on employee outcomes forward.
