Non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) have had a rather unpredictable presence, survival and growth in the Indian financial markets. It is rather well known by now that the risk-borne activities undertaken by a few NBFCs raised a few red flags and brought many stable heavyweight organizations in the finance sector to a screeching halt in their tracks. Due to the recent IL&FS and the DHFL crises, one might easily conclude to restrict, restrain and rein in the NBFC sector with increased regulations. Clamping down on the NBFC sector would not work, as they reach out to the nook and corner of the country, with many citizens seeking services from the NBFC sector, especially when they do not find a suitable solution to their credit needs from the formal banking sector. The authors find that some of the basic challenges for the NBFC sector have always been, and shall always remain, to find an ideal mix of capital from varied sources to fund the growing credit demand while being devoid of excessive risk from any one set of lenders. Towards the end of this paper, upcoming challenges for the NBFC sector domestically as well as globally along with its most suitable solutions from a practical implementation perspective have been suggested.

The aim of this research is to empirically investigate the career adaptability–job embeddedness relation by examining the mediating effect of job crafting using the job demands-resources theory. Using survey data from 881 self-initiated expatriates (SIEs) working in multinational companies across the UAE, a mediation model is tested. Structural equation modelling was utilized to assess the proposed hypotheses. The findings show that career adaptability improves job embeddedness. Furthermore, job crafting mediates the career adaptability and job embeddedness relationship. Job crafting and job embeddedness may benefit from high levels of career adaptability. The findings support the mediator effects of job crafting on career adaptability and SIEs’ job embeddedness. This study recommends job crafting as an imperative factor that influences career adaptability and job embeddedness relationships.

The study aimed to examine the influence of servant leadership on organizational citizenship behaviour through trust at Christian religious universities in Indonesia. This study used quantitative methods with a sample of 180 lecturers from 27 Christian universities in East Java, Indonesia. This study used partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) for data analysis. The results showed that (i) servant leadership has a direct effect on organizational citizenship behaviour and trust; (ii) trust has a direct effect on organizational citizenship behaviour and (iii) the effect of servant leadership on organizational citizenship behaviour was mediated by trust. Trust was competitive mediation for the effect of servant leadership on organizational citizenship behaviour. The results of this study contribute significantly to the rector/chairman to improve knowledge, attitudes and skills related to the characteristics of servant leadership through training. The rector/chairman needs to design a mentoring programme to empower lecturers to prepare them to become leaders in the future. Lecturers need to increase awareness of organizational citizenship behaviour by participating in mentoring so that they have reflective skills, understand concept exploration, and engage in collaboration spaces to be able to detect that servant leadership rector/chairman influences the growth of organizational citizenship behaviour and trust in leaders.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has lured consumers to orchestrate their routine activities relying on such technologies. Though AI-powered virtual assistants (AIVAs) have gained traction among service providers, these are still lagging on the demand front. This study intends to develop an ‘AIVA adoption model’ delineated under a holistic framework based on structural equation modelling and deep neural network incorporating multilayer perceptron algorithm. The sensitivity analysis designated ‘effort expectancy’ as the most dominant antecedent of AIVA adoption, followed by ‘perceived innovativeness’. While ‘perceived risk’ held high relevance, the tech users were equally concerned about the performance of AIVA in conjunction with its anthropomorphic response; however, they gave the least consideration to subjective norms. The parallel mediation analysis revealed that the adopters preferred transactional relationships with AIVA more than the communal one, while the simultaneous application of both the perspectives better generates loyal customers. The moderation analysis unveiled that the uncanny valley paradigm could not always be supportive, especially in the context of AIVA. The developed model may serve the basis to generate as well as sustain adoption and loyalty of the specified technology.

The digitization of higher education (HE), particularly general and business education, is increasingly becoming a necessity in the post–COVID-19 pandemic period, forcing higher education institutions (HEIs) to switch to digital learning, with all of its accompanying challenges. This study focused on investigating the effect of digitizing HE learning on the quality of business education and the moderating influence of international accreditation bodies on this relationship. A questionnaire survey was used to collect data from a convenient sample of 232 business HEI faculties in the Kingdom of Bahrain. A simple regression analysis was used to test the study’s hypotheses. The findings indicate that learning management systems, student assessment and student interaction have a significant impact on the quality of education in a digital classroom setting. It was further found that international accreditation bodies have a significant positive moderating influence in maintaining and enhancing the quality of digital business education during pandemic and post-pandemic periods. Additionally, these bodies provide support to HEIs to help overcome challenges in ensuring the quality of digital learning. The implications and potential contributions of the study are discussed along with its limitations and areas for future research.

Supervisory Technology (SupTech) combines artificial intelligence (AI) with machine learning (ML) for the specific purpose of supervision of the financial markets. SupTech offers transformative solutions for the regulation, monitoring and surveillance of financial markets. This article presents a literature review examining the role of SupTech in enhancing market surveillance. Using the PSALSAR framework, we conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of 55 articles published between 1999 and 2022. The review highlights the potential of SupTech to navigate the complexities of the financial landscape, and its versatile applications for financial supervisors and regulators, stock exchanges, intermediaries, and investors. Our findings indicate that SupTech models can effectively detect instances of market manipulations, insider trading, and fraud. These models also showcase exceptional potential to forecast crises in markets, economies, corporations, and in the banking sector. They are useful in empowering policymakers and regulators to make informed decisions. The study provides a strong foundation for future research and policy development to explore and deploy the potential of SupTech, paving the way for greater transparency, efficiency, and resilience in financial markets.

Researchers have shown interest in theory of organizational information processing and the resource-based theory, as they can both serve to provide competitive advantages for companies. Earlier studies have indicated that procedural rationality is used by firms to increase the demand for information processing when making effective strategic decisions. However, there is limited understanding of the mediating effects of entrepreneurial orientation as an intangible resource for organizations between procedural rationality and strategic decision-making effectiveness in the available studies in the literature. Thus, this study sheds light on the relationship between procedural rationality in strategic decision-making from organizations and their strategic decision-making effectiveness, taking into consideration the mediating effects of entrepreneurial orientation as an intangible resource for organizations. The research model was tested using a structural equation modelling design based on survey data from 162 companies that work under the umbrella of the Saudi financial sector, collated and analysed by software (SPSS and SmartPLS), the research found that procedural rationality in strategic decision-making within organizations positively affected their strategic decision-making effectiveness. Likewise, the research revealed that procedural rationality in strategic decision-making increased the level of entrepreneurial orientation. Moreover, the research findings showed that the high level of entrepreneurial orientation within organizations positively impacted their strategic decision-making effectiveness. These findings enrich the fields of strategic decision-making and procedural rationality through entrepreneurial orientation within organizations, this relationship should synchronize in function focusing on relevant information, data analytics, and strategic approach process. In light of this, this study brings scientific evidence from the perspective of financial companies within Saudi Arabia.

This study aimed to explore the influence of social media on the perception and decision-making process of prospective students seeking admission to Business schools (B-schools) in the context of the increasing prevalence of social media in people’s lives. Specifically, it examined the perceived and actual utility of reviews posted on Social Networking Sites (SNSs) and the role of Social Media Usage (SMU) as a moderating factor in shaping admission intentions. Additionally, the impact of ratings and reviews on the overall perception of B-schools was explored. To gather data, a questionnaire was distributed via Google Forms to over 500 second-year post-graduate students studying Business Management in various B-schools. Out of the total responses received (201 usable responses), it was discovered that the respondents’ personal experiences either aligned with the reviews they read before admission or surpassed their expectations. Moreover, ratings and online forums had a positive influence on shaping a favourable perception among potential students, ultimately leading to their decision to enrol in a particular B-school. The study also confirmed the moderating effect of SMU. Admission officers should recognize that user-generated content holds greater trustworthiness among prospective students in comparison to content generated by vendors. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize social media in their strategies. Additionally, there is a need to investigate the usage of SNSs by college admission offices and the impact of social media strategies on students’ admission intentions. Consequently, this study focuses on an underexplored area, shedding light on its significance.
