PLA/BF composites, which are extremely flammable, must be carried out fire-retardant processing. However, traditional organic flame retardants release certain amount of pollutant to the environment, and inorganic flame retardants require more addition, which influenced the mechanical properties of composites. Therefore, nano inorganic flame retardants, which have some characteristics of small size, uniform shape and high specific surface area, can bring good flame-retardant effect with relatively few addition. Meanwhile, it can enhance the interaction of composites interface, and disperse more evenly in polylactic acid (PLA)matrix. Furthermore, it has light influence on the physical mechanical properties. In this study, nano structure anhydrous magnesium carbonate is used as flame retardant, Cone Calorimeter and Dynamic Thermal Mechanical Analyzer are adopted for studying the fire-retardant properties and the dynamic thermodynamic parameters of the PLA/BF composites, respectively. Results show that nano structure anhydrous magnesium carbonate flame retardant have good fire-retardant performance for the PLA/BF composites, considering practicality and economy, its ideal addition is 5%.

To fabricate the dispersed and uniformed PbS QDs, mercaptoacetic acid and centrifugation were investigated in the process of reaction which was to synthesize QDs. The TEM and PL experiments showed that we succeeded in chemical synthesis of PbS QDs which generate photoluminescence (PL) with very weak polarization dependence. Emission wavelength range of the QDs covered 1.3 µm. Influence of the synthetic conditions on PL polarization characteristics and the QD structure was investigated.

A facile micelle template-hydrothermal method was used to synthesize hydroxyapatite nanorods with good thermal stability and biocompatibility. A novel micelle precursor consisting of CTAB/cyclohexane/ethanol/aqueous phase was hydrothermally treated at 150°C. XRD patterns and FTIR spectra showed that the synthesized products display the structure and main vibration modes of hydroxyapatite (HA). TEM images showed that the products exhibit elongated rod morphology. Bio-mineralization in simulated body fluid (SBF) immersion indicated that the surface of sintered HA is entirely covered with the apatite layer after 21 days immersion.

We report a novel stress-induced method to grow single crystalline Bi2Te3 nanowires, On Film Formation of Nanowires (OFF-ON), their growth mechanism and transport properties. Single crystalline Bi2Te3 nanowires were found to grow on as-sputter ed BiTe films after thermal annealing at 350°C. This growth was facilitated by stress relaxation between the film and the thermally oxidized Si substrate originating from a mismatch of the thermal expansion. The mechanism for wire growth is stress-induced mass flow along grain boundaries in the polycrystalline film.

Plastic scintillator as a nuclear detection material has been widely used in the field of particle detection as a result of ease of processing into various shapes and low price. In this paper, a new particle detector used in microbeam based on plastic scintillating fiber was introduced. The processing procedure of plastic scintillating fiber and the detection results of particle detectors were discussed in detail. The results show that this particle detector can improve the detection efficiency.

Vanadium oxide (V4O7) nanowires have been synthesized via a hydrothermal route. The synthesized products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It was found that the products are of anorthic phase and single crystalline nanowires with diameter of 150 nm and length up to 100 µm. The formation mechanism of the V4O7 nanowires was discussed. Light sensitivity has been investigated on the electrode made from the V4O7 nanowires at different biases. The fast current response has been observed under alternative control of light on and off within 1 s interval, indicating a potential application of the V4O7 nanowires as optical sensors/switches.

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings was deposited on NiTi substrates by arc enhanced magnetic sputtering (AEMS) system. The effect of serum proteins, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and fibrinogen (Fib) on the corrosion behavior of DLC-coated NiTi alloys in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) solution at 37°C was investigated using open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization measurements. The results showed that DLC coatings could enhance the corrosion resistance of NiTi alloys, especially in the presence of BSA, which could move the OCP to positive direction, increase the polarization resistance, lower the corrosion current density and enhance the breakdown potential. The presence of fibrinogen showed the similar effect but less notable than BSA. Finally, the mechanism leading to these results were discussed.

In this study, the nano-supercapacitors were electrodeposited the gold/manganese oxides thin film with potassium permanganate and gold chloride solution on ITO substrate. It was deposited for 200s by potentiostatic method (0.7V v.s. open circuit). The morphology and the microstructure of the films were examined by SEM (scan electron microscopy). The thickness of the thin films was about 30∼100nm and the thin films composed of MnO2 nano particles with Au. And the states of the ions were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Such nano structure of the thin film contributes to much higher capacitance than traditional thin film supercapacitors. This is attributed to the lowering of impedance of the nano-supercapacitor by adding Au. In this study, the film with 0.2wt% god has trice capacitance and power than pure MnO2.
