A new scheme to generate single-cycle strong terahertz (THz) pulses by ultrashort intense laser pulses incident onto a tenuous plasma slab is proposed. Our theory model suggests that, if τL >2π/ωp with τL the laser pulse duration and ωp the plasma frequency, the emission frequency is around τL−1.

Numerical study is presented on the formation of plasma density gratings by optical-field ionization in underdense gas with two counter-propagating laser pulses at a low intensity. Such gratings have a lifetime of a few nanoseconds.

High-order harmonic generation from atoms and molecules 原子和分子产生高次谐波

We experimentally investigate the high order harmonic generation (HHG) from aligned CO2 molecules and demonstrate that the modulation inversion of harmonic yield with respect to molecular alignment can be altered dramatically by the intensity of the driving laser pulse. The laser intensity dependence of the angular distributions for the 19th to 27th harmonics is also directly measured.

Microcrystalline and third-order nonlinearities of TeO2-Bi2O3-Nd2O5-TiO2 quaternary glasses TeO2-Bi2O3-Nd2O5-TiO2季系玻璃的微晶性和三阶非线性

Transparent glass ceramics containing crystal phase of Bi2Te O 5 were obtained by heat treating TeO2–Bi2O3– Nb2O5–TiO2 quaternary glass. Superior third-order optical nonlinearities were found in these glass ceramics by using Z-scan technology at 730nm.
