Investigating the E-HRM functions and its impact on banks performance: case of commercial banks in Pakistan 调查电子人力资源管理职能及其对银行绩效的影响:以巴基斯坦商业银行为例

This study aimed to investigate the impact of the functions of electronic human resource management (E-HRM) within an organization on its banking performance. In reference to previous studies, the researcher developed the research model to investigate how the application of E-HRM impacts banking performance in terms of Information technology, E-recruitment and selection, E-training, E-motivation and E-communication. This study followed a quantitative methodology by using a questionnaire tool. The study population was managerial level employees of banking sector in Pakistan. The findings of the results indicate that Information Technology, recruitment and selection, Training and Motivation has significant effect on banks profitability and Communication has insignificant effect on Bank performance. This study makes significant contributions. The study proved that successful use of e-HRM solutions enhances the profitability of the banking sector in Pakistan.

Impact of Green Human Resource Management on Eco-Friendly Behavior, Organizational Commitment, and Environmental Performance of Hotel Employees in Pakistan 绿色人力资源管理对巴基斯坦酒店员工生态友好行为、组织承诺和环境绩效的影响

The Green Human Resource Management has least been explored especially in the context of Pakistan’s hotel industry. The instant research explored the relationship of Green Human Resource Management with employees’ commitment, employees’ eco-friendly behavior and overall organizational performance for Pakistan’s hotel industry. The hotels situated in Lahore were systematically selected and data was collected on structured questionnaire from top, middle and lower management of these hotels. Data was analyzed by employing Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that the Green Human Resource Management exerted positive effect on Employees’ Organizational Commitment and Hotels’ Environmental Performance but did not affect Employees Eco-friendly Behavior. Therefore, hotel management in Pakistan should look for potential candidates at the time of recruitment who cherished environmental practices. Further, a significant mediating role of employees’ eco-friendly behavior was observed to be existed directly and indirectly for the relationship between Hotels’ Environmental Performance and Green Human Resource Management. It is suggested that appropriate reward mechanism is required to instill eco-friendly behavior in the hotel employees of Pakistan.

What’s in it for me? Compliance toward change comes with Personal Valence 这对我有什么好处?对改变的顺从来自于个人效价

For today’s organizations, survival and growth depend on responding quickly to the changes occurring in the environment. Effective execution of change programs depends to a considerable degree on the extent to which their employees value change. Therefore, making them understand that change is beneficial for them is imperative for enactment of any change program. Grounded in the theory of planned behavior, this research aims at examining the direct impact of personal valence on employees’ compliance toward change. Further, change readiness and commitment to change are proposed as sequential mediators between personal valence and compliance toward change. Self-administered questionnaires were utilized to collect primary data. The selected 583 respondents were officer-ranked employees in financial institutions, as well as media and telecom in the Punjab province and Islamabad, Federal Capital Territory of Pakistan. To test the hypotheses, PROCESS macros are employed for measuring the effects of mediation. The findings supported the hypothesized relationships of the study that personal valence directly influences compliance toward change. Moreover, change readiness and commitment to change also mediate, in sequence, the relationship between personal valence and employees’ compliance toward change. These findings establish that for the effective implementation of change programs in an organization, it is indispensable that employees must perceive the change program as beneficial and valuable to them. Limitations and future research avenues regarding this study are also discussed accordingly.

Nexus Among Energy Consumption, Financial Development, Trade Openness and Economic Growth: Evidence from South Asian Countries 能源消费、金融发展、贸易开放与经济增长的关系:来自南亚国家的证据

Energy is the economy's oxygen and the lifeblood of progress, particularly in developing economies that are undergoing widespread industrialization. In growth theories, it is frequently suggested that energy, like labor and capital, should be regarded as inputs. The current study aims to look into this contrivance in the context of the South Asian countries. Panel data has been utilized for Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. To go through investigation, panel co-integration and panel fully modified ordinary least square (FMOLS) were utilized. The results of panel co-integration show that variables have long run relationship. Results of the FMOLS show that consumption of energy, trade openness, and financial development all altogether affect economic growth in the countries under consideration. The results of panel homogenous causality uncover that economic growth and energy consumption have unidirectional causality, with energy consumption stimulating economic growth.

Exploring Sustainable Development Goals and Moral Values in the Oxford Social Studies Textbooks for Primary Classes 探讨牛津小学社会教科书中的可持续发展目标与道德价值观

Sustainable development and moral values have become an essential need of our society. We cannot expect our society to exist in the long run without having sufficient knowledge about and moral values. This research study aimed to determine the extent to which Pakistan's social studies textbooks from grade 1 to 5 contained elements regarding sustainable development and moral values. A qualitative research design was preferred and adopted for this research. The data was gathered through content analysis of primary grade textbooks of social studies written by Nicholas Horsburgh and published by Oxford 2004. A checklist was developed depicting elements and themes of sustainable development and moral values. The checklists were approved by experts of the Education Department at Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore. The themes and elements were marked accordingly and aided the researchers to explore the finding regarding the contents of primary Oxford social studies textbooks. Major findings revealed that the textbooks of social studies have a sufficient amount of SD goals i.e. Peace and Justice, Highlighting Importance of Diversity, Integrity, Good Health and Well Being, and much more. As far as the moral values are concerned a few chapters contained a surplus number of moral values in them. In the light of the findings of this study it is recommended that the content of social studies textbooks needs to be updated. Similar topics should not be repeated in the textbooks. Awareness about gender equality and environmental issues must be stressed in social studies textbooks.

Turnover Intention: A Case of Employee Working in the Fast Food Industry of Quetta 离职意向:以奎达市快餐行业员工为例

The restaurants are becoming increasingly popular as they are convenient and also economical in Pakistan. However, the fast food industries are facing a major problem of turnover intention, which directly affects productivity and performance. The purpose of the study is to examine the impact of job stressors (job insecurity, role conflict, interpersonal conflict) on the turnover intention of employees working in the fast food industry of Quetta. In this study, the quantitative method is used to collect data from employees working in the fast food industry of Quetta. The Questionnaire is distributed among (15) restaurants that are selected from (02), (03), and (04) star rankings. A total 150 of valid questionnaires were collected out of 160. The data was analyzed with help of SPSS and Smart-PLS in order to find out the relationship between job stressors and turnover intentions. The findings of the study revealed that job insecurity and role conflict have a positive and significant relationship with turnover intention, while interpersonal conflict has no relationship with turnover intention. These findings of the study will help the managers and practitioners to understand the employee’s behavior towards turnover intention in order to design new strategies for retention of the employees.

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was launched in 2015 when 51 agreements and MoUs (Memorandums of Understanding) worth USD 46 billion were signed between China and Pakistan. This grand-scale bilateral project is a flagship constituent of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). CPEC started with the goal of modernizing Pakistan’s road, rail, air, and energy transportation systems and enhancing connectivity between its Gwadar and Karachi ports to the Chinese province of Xinjiang and beyond. For Pakistan, CPEC not only meant an opportunity to address its existing challenges like the energy crisis but also a golden moment to emerge as a hub for economic activities in the region. This article discusses comparatives in Geo-Strategic countries, which can suggest the future course of CPEC projects. India, Russia, and Iran have agreed in 2000 to construct a route between Mumbai and St-Petersburg through Tehran and Moscow to facilitate the movement of energy resources from Central Asia. Likewise, China-Pakistan Corridor will increase economic activity between both countries and the region. This Corridor may also be beneficial to “String of Pearls” that China’s “culture” to save its sea lives of communication catering to protect oil and gas supplies, which are emerging from the Gulf of Persia, Middle East, and China. Investors will take advantage of various economic-related activities to promote the agriculture industry, tourism, construction activities, vehicle industry, information technology, etc. Corridors will fulfil the energy resource needs of many countries through the Caspian Sea and Central Asian Republics. However, this project is facing internal and external threats, Pakistan is facing terrorist attacks, and the Chinese province Xinjiang is facing threats. Serious security threats to this project are likely to emanate from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran. The Uighur terrorists have a close relationship with the Taliban in FATA, which is a serious and adverse threat to Chinese interests in Pakistan. This thesis is an effort to find reasons and suggest suitable measures for the Government to sort out challenges to avoid delays in the implementation and completion of the project.

Influence of Workplace Fun and Employment Experience on Creative Process Engagement: Mediating Role of Job Embeddedness 工作场所乐趣和工作体验对创造性过程投入的影响:工作嵌入的中介作用

The primary goal of this research is to examine the impact of Workplace fun and Employment Experience on Creative Process engagement among employee of software houses of Pakistan. In this paper, Job Embeddedness is perceived to mediate among Workplace Fun-Employment Experience and Creative Process Engagement. For analyzing, structured questionnaire was utilized to gather information from 303 full-time employees of software house from Lahore, Pakistan. The data was tested by using structural equation modeling (SEM) and for this AMOS 22 and SPSS 20 was utilized to test the proposed relationships. The results obtained through SEM, indicated that Workplace Fun and Employment Aspects played a significant role both directly through Job Embeddedness at software house employees and indirectly via Creative Process Engagement. Further, the most dominant predictors on CPE were Workplace fun dimensions (fun activities, coworker socialization, fun job responsibilities and managers support for fun). As Workplace Fun to some degree, really a new topic in research field and up-to-date few studies grasp this concept in the developing countries. This study is one in research that investigated creativity and engagement in a unitary term i.e. Creative process Engagement. This paper adds valuable knowledge as well provide managerial and practical implications for the organization management.

Role of Mother's Education in Developing Children's Empathy 母亲教育在儿童共情发展中的作用

We learn an abundance of useful skills for a lifetime, during our first few years of life – our mothers playing a vital role in having a major influence in our personality formations, skill sets and the nature of goals we are nudged toward. Whereas an educated mother helps her child to form views regarding the world, far broadened and contemporary as compared to children of uneducated mothers. As a child is treated with continuous high quality of care-giving and is raised in a pro-social positive environment, he or she develops a basic understanding of the incumbent benefits of having an empathic attitude towards family, friends and people at large. This research article seeks to establish the relation between mother’s education and children’s empathy level. The impetus for research is the plethora of everyday incidents taking place in our homeland, Pakistan whereby empathic skill at the root level seems invisible in the personalities of violence perpetrators and criminals. This vagrant evil may not sustain into the following decades, if we may acclimate young children to have personalities that are innately generous, kind and empathic, thus moving towards building a caring society. Long term consequences of this research are aimed at developing a national empathy program for schools, and parent-child workshops, whereby fostering empathy and kindness in upcoming generations for the betterment of our society and country.

Managing Affective Commitment to Change in Public Sector Organization of Pakistan: A Social Exchange Perspective 管理巴基斯坦公共部门组织对变革的情感承诺:一个社会交换的视角

       Literature on organizational development is well-stocked with researches advocating change as a universal remedy for organizational survival and success. However, the importance of eliciting positive employees’ response during change lacks attention. Considering the crucial role of managing employees’ positive change reactions in public sector organizations, the current study highlights the role of High Performance Work Systems (HPWS) in fostering affective commitment to change (ACTC) in culturally diverse employees’ along with its interlinking mechanisms. Based on Social Exchange perspective, we hypothesized that employees’ perceptions of the nature of exchange mediates the relationship between HPWS-Affective commitment to change. More specifically, we proposed a moderating mediation model outlining how individual’s cultural orientation might play a significant role in influencing the nature of exchange which in turn may predict the dynamics of HPWS-employees’ affective commitment to change relationship. A sample of 591 full-time employees from the largest public-sector bank of Pakistan undergoing Privatization were surveyed. The results reveal the positive impact of High performance work systems on affective commitment to change. Moreover, employees’ perceptions of social exchange mediate the positive relationship between HPWS and Affective CTC. However, this underpinning mechanism is stronger for employees scoring high collectivism and low power distance orientation and vice versa. The study contributes to the literature through examining the intermediatory mechanism and boundary conditions under which the positive impact of HPWS- Affective CTC might prove to be more effective. Finally, both practical and theoretical implications are discussed in the light of results obtained followed by future directions.
