Assessment of laccase activity synthesized by Basidiomycota fungi in the presence of wood impregnated with creosote oil. The article presents the results of the assessment of laccase activity, synthesized by fungi causing white decomposition of wood in the presence of wood samples impregnated with creosote oil in the growth environment. The obtained results indicate that the creosote oil contained in wood modulates the activity of this enzyme. Creosote oil definitely stimulates the cells of the T. versicolor fungus to induce laccase synthesis, which may be of great practical importance in terms of the possibility of designing a biotechnological method of biodegradation of pollutants, including contaminants in the form of impregnated wood waste.

Internationalization strategies and instruments of competition - Polish furniture companies on the foreign market. Despite the global economic situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Polish furniture industry is still a dynamically developing branch of the national economy of Poland. One of the most important paths in the development of this industry is still internationalization. The aim of the article was to define the internationalization strategies of Polish furniture enterprises, as well as to indicate the instruments of competition used by these companies on the foreign market. Empirical research was carried out in a group of 100 medium and large furniture enterprises conducting export activity. The research identified the most frequently used internationalization strategies by furniture companies, identified the most effective strategies, and identified competition instruments of the greatest importance for Polish furniture manufacturers. The research showed that ethnocentric strategy is most often used in the furniture industry. This strategy is the most effective. Regardless of the size of the enterprise, the quality of products was recognized by the respondents as the most important instrument of competition on the external market.

Analysis of the wood properties of Dicorynia guianensis Amsh. in the context of using in outdoor architecture. This article deals with the analysis angélique wood (Dicorynia guianensis Amsh.) properties to verify suitability for use in the arrangement of external architecture such as the construction of terraces. Particularly, tests included determination of hardness by the Brinell method and total and partial shrinkage. The presented characteristic of properties was complemented by the analysis of wood colour stability during exposition to natural weathering factors for six months. Changes of particular colour parameters (lightness L*, chroma C*, hue h) were determine as well as the total colour change ΔE*. The colour stability was examined on untreated wood surface as well as on wood finished with clear and colouring oils. It was found that the angélique wood belongs to the group of very heavy wood (specific gravity 807 kg/m3) and is characterized by the favourable technical parameters, primarily the high hardness (average hardness 45,64 MPa). Furthermore, the angélique wood is the wood of average shrinkage (average total shrinkage 14,37%). Dimensional stability does not differ from the properties of wood commonly and successfully used for wooden external construction. The results showed that during external exposition angélique wood became darker. Using wood surface protection preparations such as oils resulted in the slowing down the weathering processes effects.

Comparison results of visual and machine strength grading of Scots pine sawn timber from the Greater Poland-Pomerania Forestry Region in Poland. The paper presents an analysis of the strength grading results performed by two methods – visual (appearance) and machine, carried out for sawn timber obtained from the Greater Poland-Pomerania Forestry Region in Poland. Visual strength grading was performed in accordance with PN-D-94021:2013, while the machine strength grading with the use of MTG device (Brookhuis Electronics BV). As a result of the tests, it was confirmed that a large part of timber batch (39%) was classified as a reject while visual grading, when the machine grading resulted in a very small share of sawn timber classified as rejects (only one piece). At the same time, during machine strength grading there was only one sawn timber piece that was not classified for any class or a reject. Based on its visual appearance, this timber element should be graded as reject.

Biobased building materials – directions and development prospects. Market of building biomaterials is a dynamically developing branch of the construction sector. The design of buildings and the use of building biomaterials should take into account all factors influencing biomaterials throughout the life cycle of an engineering facility, so that the building can be characterized by high strength and durability. Many political organizations and others promote ecological houses made of building biomaterials as future-proof solutions in construction sector. Building biomaterials are a basic element of green construction, they enable safe disposal, reuse and they are a storehouse of carbon dioxide, which is emitted in the production of conventional materials. Diversified directions of development of ecological and new building materials create potential prospects for their application. The main factor that limits this development is the conservativeness of the construction industry.

Status of Lean Manufacturing Practices and Its Influence on the Adoption of Industry 4.0 in the Malaysian Furniture Industry. Lean Manufacturing practices is being promoted throughout the manufacturing industry in the country to boost industrial productivity. Therefore, a study was carried out to determine the level of adoption, benefits, and challenges faced by furniture manufacturers in adopting LM. Further, it was also evaluated if LM facilitated the transition towards Industry 4.0 adoption. The questionnaire-based survey involved 484 furniture manufacturers, of large-size and SMEs. The results found that the adoption of LM was prevalent among large-sized companies, and LM improved product quality and customer satisfaction, while reducing manufacturing lead time in the companies. The 5S method of work place organization, process mapping and waste reduction and elimination were the most common LM tools adopted by the companies. On the other hand, the major challenges encountered when implementing LM were lack of know-how, backsliding to old work ways, and resistance to adopt among the employees. The result also revealed that companies practicing LM also suggested that they were more prepared to adopt Industry 4.0 technologies, as the practice of LM has not only reduced waste on the production shopfloor, but also improved the information flow that is important for digital tools of Industry 4.0.

The influence of densification time on the tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of birch veneers. The aim of the following study was to examine and compare tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and thickness of birch (Betula pendula Roth) veneers modified by thermomechanical densification. Birch veneers were densified at the temperature of 100 °C at different times (ranges from 10 to 60 minutes). Tensile strength was tested longitudinally to the grain. As a result of this study change in tensile strength was observed for 60 minutes of densification. The rise in modulus of elasticity was also observed for 10, 20, 30, 50, and 60 minutes. The thickness of wooden veneers was changed significantly for each densification time
