This paper focuses on the textual transmission of Planudes´ Greek version of Ovid´s Heroides . Special attention is paid to the specimen Scor . Y III 13. The examination of its Greek and Latin glosses reveals that, after being used by Demetrius Triclinius, this codex circulated in the 14th century in a linguistically mixed environment, probably Crete, where it was used to learn Greek.

Study of Catullus 5, 7 and 48. The work aims above all to show that in these poems, as in most of the Catullians, one can easily recognize the two great parts in which the epigram is ordinarily organized: a first, more extensive (A), and a final ( B), brief, witty, judgmental, culminating all of the above.

The goal of this paper is to study the episode of the fight between two sets of triplet brothers that Silius Italicus inserts in the account of the battle of Ticinus (Sil. IV 355-400). Taking Livy’s intertext (Liv. I 25) as a starting point, the changes the Flavian epicist introduces with respect to his model are analized. Silius emphasizes some of the characteristics of civil war already apparent in Livy’s narrative; however, the episode is closed by the praise to the fighters in a clear allusion to the famous apostrophe to Euryalus and Nisus ( Aen . IX 446-449). This strategy, apparently contradictory but totally deliberate, contributes to define the concept of epic in relation to his predecessors Virgil and Lucan, and his contemporaries, especially Statius. The texts of the Thebaid with which these of the Punica are compared seem to prove it.

EnglishThe Ars grammatica attributed to Julian of Toledo contains two paragraphs (II 1.3–4) on the inventors of the respective alphabets that had played a role of importance in the literate cultures surrounding the Mediterranean. Both paragraphs first present the information in question-and-answer format and subsequently quote a poetic exemplum. The second exemplum reproduces carmen 39 by Julian’s teacher Eugenius II of Toledo, which is itself based on Isidore of Seville’s synthesis of «pagan» and Christian learning. The present contribution reconstructs the process of condensation and codification leading up to the relevant paragraphs in Julian’s Ars grammatica, and draws a number of conclusions regarding the intellectual climate of 7th-century Spain.
EnglishThe研究局grammatica attributed to朱利安托莱多contains 2款(II 1.3—4)关于inventors各自alphabets that性虐待played a role of重视in the literate文化的地中海。

The goal of this paper is to offer a lecture of an unpublished Latin inscription carved on a bronze nail that is currently kept at The Hunt Museum , Limerick (Ireland). The allegedly incomprehensible text and its medium had been previously related to a Modern Age masonic and/or drinking context. However, we propose to read the inscription as a 4th-5th century A. D. protective text against envious people, which was written in Vulgar Latin and engraved on a magical nail from the Roman province of Africa .

In this paper we will investigate the occurrences of πλάσμα in Plutarch’s Parallel Lives . We will analyse the meanings and nuances of the word in different passages of the work (understood as ‘fiction, counterfeit, figment’, etc.) in order to connect our conclusions with plutarchean theorizations about the problem of truth in historical narrative.

In this paper, we study the use of the historical example in the Elio Aristides’oratory from a rhetoric perspective. Studies in this regard have been focused so far on historical matters and Quellenforschung . On the contrary, we start determining the persuasive speech components in general and the example (παράδeιγμα) in particular, through the Rhetoric. Then, we analyze how certain topics and historical motifs (constituted as παραδeίγματα, that is, models and precedents of the past with rhetoric value) integrate both the argumentative and the stylistic facets of the discourse. The historical example discussed here is the one that arose in the Panathenaic out of the episodes in Athens in 491 BC concerning the heralds sent to Greece by Darius at the beginning of the First Persian War.
