This paper presents a method of using feature points to locate text area for signboards on street view images. The FAST corner detection was applied for the first step. FAST corner detection is fast and stable enough to retrieve potential text regions on street view images. The characteristics of each feature point color space were used to compute the color histogram and related information. For the second step, we used a gravity clustering method to find clusters of text area on signboard images and got the possible positions of the text area. For the third step, the distribution density was estimated and the average distance of feature points was calculated on the possible text area. The average distance was used to build text pattern regions. These regions were processed by the following steps: morphological closing, image binarization, and minimum bounding box finding to obtain a complete text region. Experimental results have shown the advantages and effectiveness of the proposed method in the text detection in the signboard images.

The legal protection extended by the statute laws of China on works of applied art could be overlapping while sometimes is conflicted and inadequate in practice, due to the fact that works of applied art are of both practical and artistic nature. The authors suggest approaches for improvement in both legislation and judicial practice based on the current statue laws and case studies. The authors propose the creation of a multilayered protection mechanism for China's intellectual property law system, which stresses protection by the copyright law, with protection by the design patent law as an essential supplement, and enhanced by the comprehensive application of the trademark law, the anti-unfair competition law, and other related laws and regulations.

An exploratory factor analysis has been studied for capabilities transformation from design firm to own branding company. Many Taiwan's companies are trying to upgrade from OEM, ODM to OBM with the assistances from design firms or in-house design departments. That is to say, Taiwan design firms act as part of the manufacturing supply-chain. Lots of small design firms in Taiwan also put their efforts to transform to own-branding from their design basis. Sekond Creative Design is one of the small design firms, which want to build their own brands from different industries. A previous study as "unpublished" [1] using participant observation method obtained the results of the capabilities transformation from the design firm to own-branding by a resource-based view. This study has emphasized on finding the key factors, which can help design firms in Taiwan understand their strength and weakness. The questionnaires were distributed to the 133 customers who purchased Sekond Creative Design company's products or visited its branches located in Taipei and Tainan. A LIKERT scale with five points was used to evaluate the degree of preferences for each question. Seven factors were identified using an exploratory factor analysis. The factors, which are important for design firms in Taiwan to transmit the product value to the consumers and to meet their needs, are product design creativity, patent barriers building, product and brand identity, marketing communication, marketing positioning, channel management, quality satisfaction, and sales team management. The survey results also showed positive responses from customers to these factors.

The paper evaluates the electromagnetic field and the fluid flow generated in a system for simultaneously electric conduction heating and intense electromagnetic stirring of molten glasses. Two variants of molten glass driving through the action of Lorentz forces are studied based on 3D finite element models developed with two professional software, Flux3D and COMSOL.

Cold and heat are two types of non-invasive and non-addictive treatments, which induce therapeutic effects including temperature modulation, muscle relaxation, pain relief, and hemostasis. In this study, we explored the bio-physical mechanism of the effects of cold and heat therapies on blood physiology. Optical tweezers are powerful tools used in the application of micro-manipulation and the quantification of micro-interaction. We evaluated the interaction between RBCs by measuring the required trapping power and estimated the average kinetic energy of RBCs by optical tweezers. Through investigation of RBCs' mobility in coagulation process, we found cold therapy reduced the intercellular interaction and suppressed the blood circulation, thus suppressed the blood flow, reduced local congestion and stopped bleeding; whereas heat application could intensify RBCs' interaction, inspire their activity, and therefore promote the circulation system and enhance the metabolism physiology.

Over the past few years, with the prevalence of smart mobile devices and progress of positioning technologies, several well-known museums and researchers have developed mobile navigation systems with location-aware service. But most of those systems support outdoor GPS positioning function only, or indoor positioning function is provided but range and accuracy are not good enough, as well as location-aware service is limited. In this paper, we presented an augmented reality mobile navigation system, which supporting useful location-aware service based on proposed iBeacon assisted indoor positioning mechanism. This system can detect user's location and visit time, and analyze the crowd distribution of visitors in exhibition rooms, further recommend the appropriate navigation and location information to the user in real time. Moreover, combined with the developed augmented reality representation functions, this system can enrich and improve visitor's navigation experience effectively.

A patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is difficult to talk with other people and the cognitive function is generally spared for most people. Therefore, to develop a steady state visually evoked potential based brain computer interfaces can effectively help patients. To precisely represent the characteristics of frequency responses, three types of features estimated by fast Fourier transform, power cepstrum analysis, and canonical correlation analysis are adopted. To fuse these features, a modular neural network is applied find a decision. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed approach outperform previous approaches.

This study proposes a simplified RF electrical model for advance chip design circuits using through Silicon via (TSV) interconnection which is passed through complicated material layers in three dimensional (3D) stacks. The structure of TSVs are usually combined with bumps and redistribution layers (RDLs) to achieve its function. The model to describe the TSVs electrical characteristic can be seemed as RLC schematic circuit response to input signal, so an electrical model based on analytical RLC is proposed, and an analytic circuit analysis simulator (ADS) is employed to verify the accuracy of scattering parameter (S parameter) with a 3D electromagnetic field solver (HFSS).

A new centrifugal compressor impeller design approach is presented, focusing on electrically-driven compressors for gasoline and fuel cell applications. The performance and mechanical integrity is evaluated based on numerical simulations. The preliminary performance results show the capability to achieve a flow range comparable to a larger state-of-the-art impeller, with minor penalties regarding stage efficiency and near surge operating stability.
