The era of the popularization of the Internet has heralded an explosion of information. Various hot words appear frequently online, arousing public attention. The purpose of this study is to clarify the connection between netizens’ emotions and the search volume of hot words to explore their dissemination process. We randomly selected 10 hot words that were released by famous journals and events in China, and examined the dynamics of these words from January 1 to April 30, 2021. We obtained the search volume data of hot words from the data-sharing platform “Baidu Index,” and classified the search trend types into “segmented,” “steady,” and “bursty.” We collected the text information submitted by netizens related to these 10 words from the online social platform “Weibo” for emotion analysis, and compared the proportion of emotions with the search volume of hot words to analyze the correlation. This study concludes that there is a connection between netizens’ emotions and the search volume of hot words, and it is easier to detect prominent emotions in search trends with obvious fluctuations. This result helps us grasp the dissemination process of hot words, and simultaneously understand public opinion, which will help stabilize social development.

The left-wing parties in Europe are at the core of leading the world's left-wing movement. After the end of the Cold War, the European left-wing parties, as the front line against neoliberalism, faced severe challenges. The decline of party identity, the continuous decline of party governance performance, the rise of right-wing populist forces, and the continuous division of left-wing parties have affected the development trend of the European left-wing movement. This article analyses the current policy propositions of contemporary European left-wing parties, reveals the current challenges faced by European left-wing parties, analyses the future development trends of European left-wing parties, and provides path support for the vigorous development of the European left-wing movement.

This review introduces Robert Putnam’s article “Diplomacy and Domestic Politics: The Logic of Two Level Games” and analyzes its merits and limitations. Putnam’s article is an approach to analyzing international foreign policy beyond the state-centric assumption and placing focus on domestic factions, which are pillar causes determining the ‘ratification’ of international agreements. Diplomacy, in Putnam’s view, is not only the affairs for professional diplomats, but also a public agenda for various social groups, thus the “win-set” in negotiation of a state actor should be determined by their respective domestic situations. The review concedes that Putnam’s idea is comprehensive and provides new foundations for IR research after the system-based approach, but his comprehensiveness is also a defect for his theory compared with his latecomers.

Using the theory of functional equivalence as the theoretical basis and the white paper named Fighting COVID-19: China in Action, which was published on June 7, 2020, as the research data, this paper analyzes some translation methods and strategies used in the translation of the white paper from the lexical and the syntactic level, providing some theoretical references to it.

Many scholars have conducted extensive and in-depth research on verbal humor from the perspective of pragmatics. However, there are insufficient pragmatic researches on different forms of verbal humor. This paper tries to explore the characteristics of American humor, selecting American verbal humor as research theme, dialogues of the famous American sitcom The Big Bang Theory as research corpus, and the principle of cooperation as theoretical basis. A large number of examples are used in the thesis to explain in detail how the humorous effects of American verbal humor are produced by violating the principle of cooperation. Through analysis, this paper finds the following things. Firstly, in American verbal humor, the humorous effects are often produced by means of ambiguity and rhetoric in dialogue. Secondly, on the subject of humor, American humor tends to produce humorous effects on topics related to religion, sex as well as the relationship between men and women. With the advancement of cultural exchanges between China and the United States, more and more American comedy works have entered the Chinese market. This paper intends to help people improve their understandings of American humor and better feel the charm of American humor so as to achieve better effect in cross-cultural communication.

While the Internet the double-edged sword has brought great convenience to people's lives, it has caused serious problems in the leakage of personal information of netizens, and the protection of personal information has been severely challenged. In the context of big data, the background of citizens' personal information urgently needs to be paid attention to, and relevant state departments need to provide citizens with administrative law protection to protect their personal interests. For many years, China and some Western countries have been in constant conflict, especially with the United States, which mainly reflected in the news reports by the American media on China. In the final analysis, these conflicts stem from the intercultural communication barriers between China and the United States. Based on the framework of intercultural communication barriers proposed by Martin and Nakayama (2014), this paper analyzes the intercultural communication barriers reflected in American media coverage on China and their impacts by using qualitative research methods and theories of individualism and collectivism. The study found that there are four types of intercultural communication barriers in the American media coverage on China. In terms of ethnocentrism, American media news reports mostly criticize China and praise their own country. In terms of stereotypes, most of the American media news reports are very aggressive in language, and there is no reliable evidence to support the argument. In terms of prejudice, American news media usually do not have a thorough understanding of specific groups in China, and question the professionalism or authenticity of those groups based on their own feelings. In terms of discrimination, news stories in the U.S. media often use abusive words in headlines or text. Finally, this paper puts forward some suggestions to effectively eliminate these barriers.

In the final analysis, these conflicts stem from the intercultural communication barriers between China and the United States. Based on the framework of intercultural communication barriers proposed by Martin and Nakayama (2014), this paper analyzes the intercultural communication barriers reflected in American media coverage on China and their impacts by using qualitative research methods and theories of individualism and collectivism. The study found that there are four types of intercultural communication barriers in the American media coverage on China. In terms of ethnocentrism, American media news reports mostly criticize China and praise their own country. In terms of stereotypes, most of the American media news reports are very aggressive in language, and there is no reliable evidence to support the argument. In terms of prejudice, American news media usually do not have a thorough understanding of specific groups in China, and question the professionalism or authenticity of those groups based on their own feelings. In terms of discrimination, news stories in the U.S. media often use abusive words in headlines or text.
