This paper investigates the use of knowledge brokers who provide a technology intelligence brokering service to help firm's access external knowledge for their innovation process, especially as part of `search and scanning'. This is seen as an important intermediation role. The paper provides an overview of the different functions of `knowledge brokers' that have emerged to assist firms with innovation by connecting clients with external partners with a view to better informing the `search and scanning' activities of the client firms. Two case studies presented here help to illustrate how UK manufacturing firms have benefitted from using intermediary organizations such as management consultants and Research Technology Organizations as part of their search and scan activities.

Risks and uncertainties are major concerned in the construction of large-scale projects like weapon equipment, whose success shall be got through a compulsory evaluation on those risks and uncertainties during the execution of the projects. And the technology readiness has gained wide attentions in recent years with its characteristics like hierarchy, delicacy, etc. and played a very important role in fields inclusive of equipment procurement. Based on the model of technology readiness, this article evaluates equipment risks through an evaluation on technology readiness, manifests technical risks through one quantified evaluation, controls risks using verification rules, studies risk evaluation method encircling an evaluation on technology readiness, and provides the specific work flow process for such method.

Scientific effects, which are knowledge of scientific principles, can be used to transform inputs to outputs and achieve corresponding functions. How to manage and make full use of them to support the conceptual design is an important task. Many papers focused on the expression and retrieval of function ontology, few related to the reasoning rules on the function expansion with attributes of function and flow. This paper proposed a rule-based ontology reasoning for scientific effects retrieval with expanding 5 groups reasoning rules based on Jena reasoning engine. A proto type software is developed. The experiment results demonstrated that the rule-based ontology reasoning can greatly widen the solution space and increase opportunities for product innovation.

This study examines the impact of challenge stressor and hindrance stressor on job performance and second, revealing the moderating effect of social exchange relationship toward former relationship. Based on the 213 samples from Taiwanese firms, our analysis shows that challenge stressor can promote job performance while hindrance reduces performance. In addition, this study found the relationship between hindrance and job performance is weaker when social exchange is high rather than low. Based on empirical results, this study also provides theoretical and practical implications.

The convergence of backbone networks is widely discussed under the name of next generation networks (NGNs). But the local loops such as the air interface of mobile networks and the last mile of fixed networks are still owned by single operators. Therefore they show an oligopolistic market structure which may prevent market-driven allocation and lead to high end-user prices. In this paper incentives are given for the convergence of communication networks. These arise from new engineering solutions. Their impact on the communication market is shown. Then technical solutions are exemplified and their benefits and drawbacks discussed.

The current study examines the knowledge sharing phenomenon from a receiver perspective. The results of a scenario experimental study reveals that receivers' characteristics play different roles under different situations (responsive knowledge sharing and proactive knowledge sharing). For the responsive knowledge sharing, receivers' characteristics are not important factors affecting the sharer's willingness to share. However, for proactive knowledge sharing, receivers' professional ability and personal relationship with the sharer significantly affect the sharer's decision. Practical implications are discussed at the end of the paper.

This study focuses on analyzing the driving factors of government and industry funding and the effects of such funding on academic innovation performance in the Taiwan university-industry-government (UIG) collaboration system. This research defines the relationships of the triplet in the UIG collaboration system as a complex intertwined combination that covers demography, financial support, and innovation performance. These relationships are simultaneously modeled by structural equation modeling (SEM) to investigate the causal-effect relationship among the antecedent factors on the subsequent ones. This model will enable us to realize three questions: (1) Are the government or industry funding tied to university innovation performance, rather to university demography, or both of them? (2) Does government funding lead the industry funding? (3) Does government or industry funding conduce to more university innovation performance?

This paper presents results of an empirical study on the influences of staff's psychological factors to total quality management practices. SEM technique was used to analyze the data we gathered by face to face questionnaire investigation of manufacturing industry in Shanghai China. The results show that quality consciousness, staff's ability, Quality attitude and staff's interest have significant positive impacts to TQM practices, and the standardized regression weights are 0.772, 0.720, 0.539 and 0.666 respectively. Staff's feeling doesn't show significant effect to TQM practices.

The ramping up of services in recent decades, coupled with technological development, has supported the emergence of virtual markets and stable with continued growth potential in Latin America and with high potential for developing the strategy of the organizations that can exploit this new opportunity. This study is an initial measurement of perceived service quality of internet shoppers, a scale adapted to the Colombian reality and making appropriate evidence of reliability and validity. Finally, favorable results are obtained for the scale, where the dimensions of privacy, and range systems are the least valued by buyers.

The dynamic behavior of a complex system of an undergraduate program in a university is examined. Specifically, by means of System Dynamics Simulation, a model to represent the interrelated variables of the system is developed. The model has passed three different model tests to assess its expediency to reflect the actual system. The simulation result indicates that a growth-and-decline pattern is identifiable. The result suggests that the `limits to growth' archetype occurs within the system. Six scenarios of system improvement are proposed. Basically, the improvement scenarios attempt to reduce or eliminate the effects of limiting variables in the system. Scenarios #5 which combines improved new lecturers' recruitment procedure, improved plan for infrastructure investment, and a better budget allocation provides the best result.
