This paper presents a comb-finger capacitive displacement sensor used in nano-positioning system. The displacement sensor is designed to develop an integrated implementation platform and to achieve its closed-loop control. In the design, offset constant-tooth, combinations with S-type beams and flexible cantilevers have been adopted to enhance the position range and structure performance. Surface and bulk micromachining technology is employed to fabricate the sensor from a single crystal silicon wafer. Through testing of the nano-positioning stage, the capability of the sensor has been obtained. The results show that this method can achieve a detect range of 10μm, with resolution of 5nm.

Based on the theory of wavelet packet for signal analysis, a new method to diagnose mechanical fault for circuit breakers is presented. Firstly, vibration signal after noise removing is wp-decomposed at the fourth level, and the signal of each junction at the fourth level are reconstructed; Secondly, the characteristic vector is extracted with the proportion of envelope energy of each two junctions at the fourth level, while the each two junctions have an father node at the third level; lastly, the classification of characteristic parameters is realized with simple BP neural network for fault diagnosis. The experimentation without loads indicates the method can easily and accurately diagnose the mechanical faults of circuit breakers, and provide a new road for fault diagnosis of HV circuit breakers.

This paper presents a 3D localization system inspired from the CF-FM (constant frequency-frequency modulated) bats. It is based on a 6 DOFs platform which has one transmitter and two receivers, which aimed at being used on mobile robots. The target tracking method is as follows. Firstly, emitting CF ultrasound to acquire the drift angle approximately, and then FM ultrasound is produced to get the detail information of the target. The interaural amplitude difference (IAD), is used as the basic position evaluating parameter during the simulation. MATLAB is used as the simulation environment and the DREAM toolbox is used to build up the ultrasound field. The simulation result shows that CF-FM method can reduce the measurement data as well as keep a high accuracy, which may improve the real-time ability of this sensor-based system.

In this paper, a complex power flow tracing technique based on the converged AC power flow solution is proposed to determine the participations of each load in line flows. This method is formulated by using mathematical derivations without topological analysis and proportional-sharing principle, where electrical circuit theories are satisfied. There four incidence matrixes found by the relationship of electrical circuit theories, and these matrixes will be integrated by matrix multiplication. With matrix formulations, this is an algorithm to find tracing components for line flows, generators and loads. Besides, the component of counter flows can also be found to show its effect on the line flow. This tracing technique can calculate power distributions of transmission network effectively, and can be easily integrated into the existent tariffs of charging for transmission services.

Multipath is the main source of error in satellite positioning. Although various multipath reduction and delay estimation techniques have been developed, short-delay multipath is still a problem area particularly for high precision applications, indoor use and under dense urban environments. The number of close-in secondary paths is not only high in indoor and urban areas but also dynamic in nature because of presence of closely-spaced stationary and moving reflecting objects such as people, plants, buildings and vehicles, around the receiving antenna. Thus a delay estimation approach with good accuracy, less computational cost and capability of handling both static and dynamic multipaths environments is always desired. One such concept has been proposed based on the exploitation of properties of non-linear Teager-Kaiser (TK) energy operator for estimating and tracking the true delay under multipath environment. This operator is applied to the cross-correlation function between the received signal and the reference spreading code replica generated at the receiver to estimate the closely-spaced delays. So far, various implementation approaches have been developed for TK method giving good results based on simulations. In this paper, the performance of TK method is analyzed experimentally by collecting & processing GPS L1 data and comparing the results with the standard DLL discriminator. The results show that TK method is capable of distinguishing sub-chip multipath delays accurately with a lower computational cost.

This paper presents a novel approach which uses brain computer interface (BCI) technology to translate the user's mental conditions, especially the attention state, into game control. Leveraging on BCI engine to measure a user's attention level to control a virtual hand's movement and utilizing 3D animation technique, the proposed system is significant for training those who suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Comparing to robotic based system, the proposed system is cost-effective, interesting, and ease of use. It also can be extended for rehabilitating the people with neurological disorders, such as those debilitating traumatic events. Potentially, millions people may benefit from the system. The system structure and experimental results will be illustrated in this paper. To our knowledge, no same system is reported yet.

In order to make the movement of mobile robot more smoothly, this paper designs a Auto-tuning PID module for mobile robot motion system. Based on the systematic mathematical model, this paper presents a least-square real-time parameter estimation algorithm with forgetting factor and incremental PID controller algorithm, and provides PID parameters optimization algorithm for the minimization of objective function. The digital signal controller Microchip dsPIC30F4011 is chosen as the core of master control system to accomplish the design of system software and hardware. The results of spot test in mobile robot's platform indicates that self-tuning PID control system can real-time estimate the controlled object parameter, real-time set adjust the controller parameters, then adapt to controlled object variance. So the auto-tuning PID control module is robust with good performance and anti-disturbance capability.

A new type of current transformer (CT) calibration approach is introduced, which is based on the current transformer equivalent model. We can analysis the CT's performance by calculating its internal parameters. The current transformer error, voltage characteristics, 10% error curve can be measured, solving the problem of up-flow unit and the standard current transformer is no longer needed in the on-site verification. It is more convenient for the users to carry out the field testing of current transformers.

This paper presents the design and implementation of power converter for wind generator. The proposed system consists of a wind generator, a buck converter, a bi-directional dc/dc converter and lead-acid battery. The wind generator is the main power source of the system, and the battery is used for energy storage and power compensation. In order to make the wind power generator produce the maximum power, the battery is charged or discharged through the bi-directional dc/dc converter. By adjusting the duty of the power converter, the charging efficiency of batteries can be improved. A digital signal processor is used to realize the system controller. The system controls the duty cycle of the buck converter to accomplish the maximum power tracking. Finally, a 100W wind energy conversion system is built and experimental results are provided to verify theoretical analysis and feasibility of the wind power conversion system.
