This study is aimed at describing the attitude of elementary school students toward mathematics. The research method used was survey. Respondents were 135 elementary school students consisting of fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade students. All respondents had recieved permission from their parents to participate in the study. Data were collected by using questionnaire. The results show that elementary school students assume that mathematics is a difficult subject. Respondents who gave spontaneous expression to mathematics with the word “difficult” amount to 38 students (27.74% of all respondents). They reason that mathematics has many formulas that must be memorized. In addition, the most difficult topic is volume because many formulas must be used to solve the problems related to volume. Interestingly, there are some students (13.14%) who consider learning mathematics fun because the material is easy to understand and the teacher is interesting. From the aspect of mathematics’ benefits, most respondents answer that learning mathematics is meaningful and useful in daily life, for example; to count money, buy and sell, count discounts, calculate area/land, measure weight, calculate volume, calculate distances, calculate farm yield, measure time, and train thinking and patience. Keywords— mathematics, elementary school students.

This study aims to find out how implementation of the reading-writing literacy, to describe and analyze the supporting factors of the reading-writing literacy implementation, and to analyze and describe the inhibiting factors in the implementation of literacy in secondary schools . This research is a qualitative research with case study approach performed in SMP N 1 Bantul. Data collection techniques were by using observation and documentation. Data analysis used were model Milles and Huberman that includes data, display data reduction and withdrawal of the conclusion. A summary of the results of this research is the readiness of SMP N 1 Bantul to carry out literacy activities in schools which can be seen from the existing facilities in schools to support these activities as well as the participation of teachers in the success of these activities, implementation strategies. Factors that support literacy reading activity are school factor and outside school. The inhibiting factor of reading literacy is a short time. Keywords—implementation, literacy, reading and writing, secondary school.

In the globalization era, nationalism is one of the important characters to be owned by the next generation. Nationalism character building in education is expected to take the role as the fortress of a country towards various negative globalization impacts. This research aims to develop a needs assessment on thematic learning towards nationalism character building as the initial data for using scientific learning-based convertible book. The method used in this research was survey. The data of the research were collected through observation, interview, and questionnaire. The subjects of this research were 30 teachers and 150 fourth grade students. The results of the interview show that teachers used the lecture technique and advice to build nationalism, but it was considered as less effective to build nationalism for students. Then, the results of the questionnaires show that students did not understand the diversities. Based on the observation, it is found that learning only focused on teacher and student handbook without any optimum use of media. Therefore, it is suggested that scientific-based printed media, according to the 2013 curriculum is needed as a supporting facility which helps nationalism character building for students. Keywords—media, convertible book, scientific approach, nationalism

This study aims to (1) develop an integrative thematic textbook for the 1 grade of elementary school oriented to improve critical thinking skills; (2) to know the feasibility level of integrative thematic textbooks (3) to know the level of legibility of integrative thematic textbooks; and (4) to know the level of effectiveness of integrative thematic textbooks in improving students' critical thinking skills of primary schools. This research method used R & D which refers to 4-D model by Thiagarajan. The test substance was the 1 grade primary school student. Data collection used observation method, expert validation, readability test, and critical thinking ability test. Data analysis technique used descriptive and t test. The result of the research indicated that the integrative thematic textbook developed has good feasibility in good criteria, practical readability level and can be applied and easily understood, the effectiveness of the module was tested using t test at 0.05 significance level which result 0.000 <α = 0.05 where the critical thinking ability of students which uses an integrative thematic textbook was better than the critical thinking ability of students which only used ordinary textbooks. This textbook can be used to develop the critical thinking skills of elementary school students, especially in low

Good quality students’ learning outcomes are dependent on good teaching materials. Good teaching materials are those developed based on an appropriate needs analysis. In this era of globalization, nurses must be skillful not only in nursing, but also in communicating in English with non-Indonesian patients. Therefore, one of the goals of nursing education is the mastery of spoken English. Related to this issue, the research reported in this paper aims to develop the appropriate speaking materials for the second semester students of nursing program based on their needs. This is a research and development study conducted at a nursing school in Yogyakarta. The development of the materials went through seven steps: conducting needs analysis, designing the course grid, developing the first draft of the textbook, getting the expert judgment, revising the product, implementing the product, and evaluating the product. The data were obtained from questionnaires and interview. The questionnaires were analyzed using quantitative data analysis, while the interview data were analyzed using qualitative data analysis. The research findings reveal the real needs of nursing students, the teacher’s viewpoints on the practice of instructions, and the descriptions of English for nurses used in their field of work. Keywords—english for nursing, speaking, speaking material development.

We experience continuous changes from time to time. This process will result in new challenges and problems which in turn can threaten the sustainability of life. For our life to be sustainable, we must have a critical spirit and the ability to make a decision to undergo changes which are more humane. Education can play a critical role to develop these competencies. This paper will discuss the role of education for sustainable development by using holistic and reflective learning theories. The inclusion of Bahasa Indonesia for legal field in kindergarten is an integral part of language learning, which is suitable for early childhood development. This study is aimed at determining the utilization of Bahasa Indonesia for legal field as learning media to promote the legal awareness of students. The present study used a qualitative descriptive approach on the strategy of introducing Bahasa Indonesia for legal field in Kindergarten by using road sign images that have legal language symbolic meaning. The source of data was texts on road signs on the highways collected through recording and documentation. Data analysis technique was interpretation based on the forensic linguistic perspective in accordance with literature review of books and scientific journals. The results show that Bahasa Indonesia for legal study as learning media in kindergarten is carried out through role-play model to introduce road signs, Bahasa Indonesia for legal field is packed by using the images of road signs that can be found in daily life hence the concept are exciting and easily understood by students, and explanations of traffic regulations that have legal language symbolic meanings is done by using appropriate words in accordance with the student development based on forensic linguistic perspective as an effort to foster understanding and awareness about the rule of law in
