The issue of obtaining wind energy in individual construction facilities is associated with a change in the scope of design issues undertaken in the case of high and large-scale buildings. This is due to the limited size of the assumptions, the type of wind devices used and the need to maintain their proper relationship to the function and form of the architectural object, and the need to ensure acceptable energy efficiency in turbulent flow conditions. The currently adopted design approaches, treated as patterns and constituting the starting point in the design process, constitute a correct synthesis of the issues undertaken by the designer, but they do not fully exhaust the issues raised. This article presents a study concept of a residential facility located below ground level and equipped with an installation for obtaining wind energy.

Over the last 20 years, a great number of investments related to cultural institutions can be observed in Poland, among which the houses for music – particularly stand out. The aim of the analysis is to indicate the common features of the mentioned buildings, and those which determine their exceptional architectural quality. These are: contextualism – a creative and symbolic reference to the local history and tradition; the use of innovative technologies; optimal acoustics; expressive interiors. In every case the goal was to create an iconic object and this was achieved thanks to the modern architectural form and the symbolic references to the cities’ history and genius loci.

The aim of this article is to present assumptions for pilot activities showing how regions can change the way they counteract climate change in the spatial structure of cities. The problem is considered in terms of identifying stakeholder groups and levers of change. An attempt to develop a catalog of levers will allow for the assessment of the usefulness and possibility of transferring pilot activities outside the city context. Further research is also needed to develop appropriate measurement criteria to determine the effectiveness of the strategy. The concept defined its main elements and outlined future directions for its improvement.

The Paris Agreement sets a goal of reducing air pollution emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to the 1990 levels. One way to achieve this is by increasing the biologically active areas in cities, where there is limited space. This article explores the possibility of using the vertical space on the walls of buildings, such as a housing estate in Szczecin, by planting vines. It also tries to determine the size of the area that can be used, which will result in an increase in the biologically active areas of cities.

Transport in urban area is not only infrastructure, it is also a network of functions between which people would like to travel. This is why the spatial structure of the city - the density and compactness of the build-up area, as well as the relation of this area to center or centers of the city is so important. The aim of the article is to analyze modal split data and population distribution in European cities and to present the resulting conclusions, including the conclusions on how to shape the spatial structure of cities in a way that is conducive to development of active mobility.

The article explores the method of deriving historical values from the history of an object and place, in connection with people important to the object or place. This is a detailed analysis of the practical process of translating an integrated historical narrative used to recreate important components or carriers of historical values, based on the case of two semi-detached villas in Poznań's Sołacz district. The HeV method used in this case illustrates how to qualify individual historical factors that may be of great importance in themselves, but of little importance in relation to architecture.

The article analyzes the functional and structural solutions of office high-rise and tall buildings developed in the early 21st century, incorporating biophilic design principles. The study identifies two primary trends in the way their functional layouts are designed. The analysis of the evolution of functional and structural changes is presented in the context of contemporary architecture development, with a specific reference to the modernism era. The conclusions drawn from the research highlight biophilic ideas as a crucial element in sustainable architectural design strategies.

The design process in Architectural Design Studio’s first classes for students is often based on images that are erroneously used as references by copying some formal choices. In the most general sense, this issue is related to a gap between architectural culture and society, as architecture is considered a virtual and consumable object. Those problems could be faced with an old but still effective tool that is the metaphor. Architecture is mainly known by images, and each image has a visible and an invisible part; the latter concerns the culture that underlies it. The paper assumes the metaphor is a design tool that can be helpful in the initial stages of the design process as it allows anyone to quickly connect images, ideas, and experiences, getting deeper into the invisible part of images. Since the metaphor is mainly a linguistic agent, most of the studies concern the use of the metaphor in the field of theoretical criticism and for reviewing other projects. The paper proposes to integrate this approach by investigating the metaphor to support the transfer of shapes and figures between different architectures. Furthermore, the proposed process foresees a permanent part based on the type of dynamic and more mobile part where metaphorical thinking finds space. Therefore, two types of use of the metaphor are put forward: the first interprets existing buildings by recognising both linguistic metaphors used by the critics and those crystallized in the architectural form; the second instead stimulates students to use visual metaphors in determining the shape and volume of the project.

Cultural facilities play an important role in urban social life. It is a meeting place between culture and the participants in urban life, understood today as a place for discussion, exchange of ideas. To allow these processes to take place, it is necessary to ensure accessibility in all areas. The aim of this article is to analyse exemplary directions of activities in cultural venues in Barcelona as a city implementing accessibility in the broadest sense, including supporting activities in venues such as theatres and museums, for example. Based on the results of the research, an attempt was made to develop an accessibility model capturing spatial, technological, organisational and communication and information activities. The research involved a literature review and site visits to four cultural venues in Barcelona.

By succumbing to the propaganda that design is about creating the 'new', we escape from reflecting on the moment of discovery in a living ecosystem. Reflective practice allows us to understand the continuity of development and provides an opportunity to engage speculative users in the acceptance of a symbiotically designed space, as opposed to revolutionary acts of uncritical design. The combination of theory and practice on the basis of projects carried out in the first years of study leads to Poiesis, as well as a sense of responsibility for lost natural capital, progressive gentrification or the disappearance of local activity.
