The aim of the research is to characterize the author’s pragmatic attitude related to the use of lexemes belonging to the lexico-semantic group of verbs naming work activities in general (‘работать’ (to work), ‘делать’ (to do)) in the texts of N. S. Dashevskaya’s novellas; to determine the reasons for the preference for the lexeme ‘делать’ and the specifics of its functioning in the texts under study. The research is original in that it is the first to examine the functioning of the verbs ‘работать’ and ‘делать’ as units belonging to the lexico-semantic group ‘Work activities’ to comprehend the author’s pragmatic attitudes in a text addressed to children or adolescents. The study is original in that it is the first in linguistics to use a field approach to examine the vocabulary with the semantics of food based on the material of R. Davies’s work “The Rebel Angels”, which contributes to the detailed differentiation of special terminology related to the topic of “food” in the English language. As a result, the vocabulary with the semantics of food was identified in the text of the novel, its repetitions were eliminated. The remaining 482 lexical units formed the lexico-semantic field “Food”, consisting of 2 large micro-fields “Foods” and “Drinks”. The micro-field “Foods” is divided into 2 large micro-fields “Dishes” and “Receiving guests”. The micro-field “Drinks” contains 2 micro-fields: “Drinks proper” and “At a drinking establishment”. The paper presents a practical experience of conducting classes on the translation of official business texts and assessing the translations, as well as students’ solutions of translation tasks. The scientific novelty of the work lies in developing a methodology for assessing the quality of student translations as a way to improve the process of teaching future translators how to render official business texts and as a means of improving their professional competencies. In Tian Han’s play “The Ballad of the Ming Tombs Reservoir” and in Jin Shan’s eponymous film, the idea of moving into the future determines the plot and the compositional structure. Meng Jinghui’s drama “The Bedbug” (the 2000, 2013 and 2017 productions) repeats the main plot of V. Mayakovsky’s play and retains many lines from the original work. This is the first staging of Mayakovsky’s play in China. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that Mayakovsky’s influence on Chinese drama is for the first time being considered from the cultural and historical perspective and reflects the dynamics of perception of Mayakovsky’s satire in China starting with a romantic-utopian view, associated with the concept of the “Great Leap Forward” (Tian Han), to a postmodern view (Meng Jinghui). The study of the Chinese-language material on the reception of Mayakovsky’s satire, which remains unexplored in Russia, will make it possible to expand the understanding of the attitude to the creative work of the Russian futurist poet and playwright abroad not only among literary scholars, but also the reading public. The study found that the satirical comedy by the Russian poet of the turn of the 19th-20th centuries in the deconstructed versions reflects the problems of the formation of Chinese society in the 20th-21st centuries.

As a part of testing the intermediate results of a study of the argotic component in a literary work, this paper examines the elements of traditional and general argot incorporated into the fabric of the modern French crime novel. The model of a multidimensional argot analysis, first proposed by E. M. Beregovskaya and subsequently supplemented by T. I. Retinskaya, allows us to give a versatile characterization of uncodified elements that exist in the everyday speech of representatives of various professional groups. The paper attempts to test a model of a systematic description of argot units compiled on the basis of the key elements of the model of a multidimensional argot analysis and supplemented by the following components: 1) a portrait of the characters using argot units; 2) a functional analysis of argot blocks; 3) a description of the author’s nonce words recorded in the novel. Thus, the aim of the research is to form an algorithm for describing argot units that illuminates the stylistic functions of non-conventional lexemes in a literary text to the fullest extent. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that the components analyzed in this paper were previously used separately, they are being implemented for the first time within the framework of an aggregate model. As a result of the research, the algorithm for a systematic characterization of uncodified lexemes recorded in the text of a literary work has been formed.
