Evidentials and advertising: a sample study 证据与广告:一项抽样研究

This paper explores the use of evidential devices in press adverts in English in a compilation of original advertisements. Due to the appellative nature of advertising discourse, I think that these texts are likely to convey source of knowledge through evidentials as an advertising strategy in order to pragmatically manifest a higher level of credibility and reliability of the information presented concerning the products and the brands. The selected corpus of adverts will allow us to focus special attention on this particular genre and on how evidentials are used, in the fashion of other works carried out in other textual genres (cf. Fox, 2001; Kaplan, 2007; Marin-Arrese, 2004, 2007; Ortega-Barrera and Torres-Ramirez, 2010). Evidentials are studied as part of a set of persuasion strategies used by different linguistic communities in the discourse of advertising (Block de Behar, 1992; Cook, 1992; Cortes de los Rios, 2001; Pavitt, 2000; Rein, 1982). Conclusions will report on how evidentials are used in print adverts, and whether a type of evidential device prevails over the rest.

MOOC y el aprendizaje de una lengua extranjera: ¿Back to the future? MOOC与外语学习:回到未来?

The MOOC offer is growing exponentially, little by little also in the field of foreign language acquisition. Due to the characteristics of MOOC as a way of teaching and learning that addresses a potentially unlimited audience, its methodology is subject to these particularities, which necessarily influences the achievement of competencies in communication skills such as speaking and writing as well as listening and reading comprehension. Our contribution deals with these limits of MOOC and raises the question, to what extent the related methodology is a step backwards towards essentially formal approaches already surpassed in foreign language teaching.

La presente contribution s’inscrit au croisement des champs de la description de l’interaction orale a distance et de l’apprentissage par tâches (TBLT) dans l’enseignement des langues etrangeres. A partir d’une etude experimentale, nous nous proposons d’analyser l’impact du dispositif visiophonique en ligne sur la realisation de deux types de tâches pedagogiques (jigsaw et ranking) en langue francaise (L3) du point de vue de la communication verbale et la communication non verbale.

Strong verb lemmas from a corpus of old english. Advances and issues 古英语语料库中的强动词引理。预付款和问题

The aim of this article is to devise the method of lemmatisation of strong verbs from a corpus of Old English with a view to maximising the automatic search for the inflectional forms, with the corresponding minimisation of manual revision of the verbs under analysis. The search algorithm, which consists of query strings and filters, is launched on the lemmatiser Norna, a component of the lexical database of Old English Nerthus. The conclusions of the article insist on the limits of automatic lemmatisation as well as the paths of refinement of the lemmatisation method in order to accomodate less predictable forms.

Syntactic generalities of sports headlines in online newspapers 网络报纸体育标题的句法共性

Dans cet article, nous nous proposons d’exposer les traits syntaxiques les plus caracteristiques des titres sportifs de six journaux dans leur version electronique. Pour ce faire, nous analysons un corpus de 300 titres de six journaux : Le Monde, Le Figaro, La Croix, L’Equipe, Sport.fr et Competition. Tous les titres ont ete tires du mois de juin 2014. En tenant compte des etudes anterieures sur les titres de presse (Mouillaud, 1982 ; Vinet, 1993 ; Furet, 1995 ; Engel, 2000 ; Abouda, 2001 ; Tahar, 2012), nous analysons, d’abord, si les titres sont rediges sous forme de construction verbale, de syntagme nominal (SN), de syntagme prepositionnel (SP) ou autre. Ensuite, nous determinons la disposition la plus frequente selon laquelle sont organises les differents elements linguistiques caracteristiques des titres. Enfin, nous observons si le titreur a fait des ellipses.

Training teachers for English Medium Instruction: lessons from research on second language listening comprehension 英语媒介教学教师培训:来自第二语言听力理解研究的启示

CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and EMI (English Medium Instruction) practices have outpaced theory and teacher training. There is a need to provide answers to some of the key issues such as the language requirements. This paper aims to show that knowledge from English for Specific Purposes and English for Academic Purposes, fields which have provided effective teaching practices and materials, could now be used in CLIL/EMI. The paper focuses on two of these. First, the issues related to second language academic listening comprehension and, secondly, the findings from research on it and their implications for student / lecturer training and materials design. These implications and suggestions are summarized. The paper concludes providing some language learning resources originally targeted to students but which could become tools for (self) training of those teachers who need to update their language skills for CLIL.

Influència de la immersió lingüística en la competència lectora. Estudi de tres models d'aprenentatge en la realitat plurilingüe valenciana

L’aplicacio dels programes bilingues al Pais Valencia al llarg dels ultims vint anys ha estat una tasca amb resultats diversos que reclamen un estudi serios de l’impacte produit en l’alumnat. La creenca de que l’ensenyament en valencia era en detriment del castella ha estat un entrebanc important per superar el rebuig primigeni que aquest tipus d’ensenyament de llengues va tindre al nostre territori, tot i que nombrosos estudis a nivell internacional corroboren la immersio linguistica com un dels metodes mes exitosos en aquest sentit. El present treball vol donar a coneixer una investigacio duta a terme en quatre col·legis del nostre territori i Terol, amb diferents programes d’ensenyament de llengues com ara el programa d’incorporacio progressiva (PIP), el programa d’immersio linguistica (PIL) i un programa monolingue en castella, per avaluar i comparar, amb un estudi estadistic, la influencia d’aquests programes en la comprensio lectora en castella.

Metodología de corpus y formación en la traducción especializada (inglés-español): una propuesta para la mejora de la adquisición de vocabulario especializado 语料库方法与专业翻译(英语-西班牙语)培训:提高专业词汇习得的建议

El presente articulo tiene como principal objetivo ejemplificar la metodologia de corpus en la etapa inicial de adquisicion de vocabulario especializado como parte del desarrollo de la competencia lexica traductora. En un primer momento el trabajo se adentra en el concepto de competencia lexica traductora. Seguidamente, se describe como la metodologia de corpus ocupa un lugar primordial en la formacion de traductores y como puede ayudar en la fase de pretraduccion (traduccion inversa) de un texto cientifico. Finalmente se propone el uso de un corpus virtual monolingue como herramienta documental previa para la adquisicion de vocabulario especializado y la valoracion inicial de la propuesta por parte del alumnado.

Service-learning for students of Spanish: Promoting civic engagement and social justice through an exchange tutoring service 西班牙语学生服务学习:透过交换辅导服务促进公民参与及社会正义

Service-learning courses are designed to promote civic engagement and social justice, and to connect the classroom with the community in an environment of cooperation and mutual interest. In this article, a service-learning course of Spanish at the university level is supported as a reciprocal language exchange between the campus and the community. According to this course proposal, students attend a Latino community site once a week, where their members are tutored in English and American culture, while students are tutored in Spanish and Spanish-speaking culture. This way, service-learning is connected to the Spanish classroom through “Reflection” sessions led by mentors visiting the class periodically. This course was designed so that students would be able to improve their conversation skills in this exchange tutoring service while they are involved with the community by seeing their members as equal peers.

Linking ideas in women's writing: evidence from the Coruña Corpus 连接女性写作中的思想:来自Coruña语料库的证据

This paper provides an overview of some rhetorical devices found in scientific works by late Modern English women. We will focus on apparently marginal linguistic elements as devices fundamental for the expression of logical reasoning in different disciplines. We have based our study on four subcorpora in the Coruna Corpus of English Scientific Writing, so that the behaviour and distribution of rhetorical devices will be studied at a microscopic level and attending not only to how they appear in each discipline, but also taking into consideration elements such as time and genre. Our conclusions are limited but we observe the effort women made at a moment when their role in society was not related to knowledge. In general there is an overall increase in the frequency of features typical of an abstract style as well as an increase of conjuncts and adverbial subordinators as linking devices.
