In the present article we intend to make a reflection on the introduction of target language literature in foreign language classrooms. We will analyze the use of short-short stories as a didactic resource in Spanish as Foreign Language classrooms. To this end, we will research different teaching methodologies that have been implemented and investigate the validity of this genre as a suitable material for teaching grammar. We will make an approximation to Focus on Form as an effective approach, which integrates grammar teaching within a communicative context.

Despite the growing body of research on the overall organization of documents from academic journals, little is known about the use of IMRD-based structures—the pattern composed of Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion sections and its variants—in publication categories other than the research article. The current paper addresses this phenomenon with the focus on Japanese-language journal documents. Both the structure and the basic function of 186 documents in Japanese of five categories different from the research article were analyzed. It was found that IMRD-based structures are consistently used in two and sparsely used in one of the five categories. Additionally, it was found that most documents exhibiting these structures report some kind of investigation. The results point to a close connection between form and function; the overflow of IMRD-based structures seems to be an external sign of the advance in academic journals of publication categories centered on research processes.

Numerous studies have highlighted the negative impact of suffering anxiety during the acquisition process of a foreign language and how this fact affects oral skills. This article shows the results of a research conducted at Instituto Cervantes of Beijing among A2 level students with a dual purpose: determining which language skills are a real source of stress for learners; and, on the other hand, analyzing the impact of a blended learning methodology proposed to develop oral skills. The results confirm that both oral expression and listening comprehension increase the anxiety of students, while the analysis of the productions in the experiment indicate a quantitative improvement of these skills significantly reducing the anxiety factor. The motivational component provided by the use of mobile devices in class invites to extend the experience to other courses and levels.

The present study analyses the current connection between language, culture and emotions in bilingual bicultural subjects. A pilot study is set to demonstrate the validity of the hypothesis that the subjects express different feelings in their own language compared to other languages. The results suggest that the mental images for the same signifier are different according to the language in which it is evoked.

In recent decades there has been a revolution in expert knowledge, so general vocabulary has been gradually enlarged with a great number of terms traditionally limited to specialised discourse. In addition, expert knowledge is usually produced in the English language. However, the need to transfer it to other languages such as Spanish has emerged. To solve the difficulties which arise for users in the transference of specialised polysemic uses derived from metaphors they normally consult general bilingual dictionaries, despite the fact that this tool is not the most suitable when making decisions about equivalents of specialised vocabulary in other language. Hence, we focus on uses in computing field because of its representativeness and multidimensional character. The aim of this paper is to get an approximation of the treatment of the aforementioned uses in two general bilingual dictionaries in English and Spanish. From the obtained results we hope to get relevant data that emphasize the need to improve the standard of information gathered in these reference works.

After discussing the notion of the subjunctive as the modus irrealis and elucidate its syntactic function and value, are presented literary examples of important American writers on the natural use of the adjectival subordinate explanatory, in order to cast doubt on the assertion some authors, such as the Real Academia Espanola (RAE) and the Instituto Cervantes, on its ungrammaticality in such clauses. While not as frequently used as the subjunctive in the adjectival subordinate especified, the paradox that is drawn not seem ungrammatical. The methodology, based on an unorthodox or dominant conception of modal division of Spanish verb conjugation, is exploratory, since there are no comprehensive studies on the subject, and is also partly descriptive and not exhaustive.

This study provides insights into the judgmental evaluation of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) by stakeholders or users. Given its widespread use and the debates surrounding it, a deeper analysis was required regarding their experiences when applying the CEFR in their daily practice of language testing, their perceptions on possible improvements and priorities. One hundred eighty-eight users, representing several groups of stakeholders, attended a conference on the topic and participated in discussion groups. These discussion groups were nourished by data obtained by a pre-conference survey and followed by a voting process on priorities for improving the Framework. The results show that the respondents have a positive attitude towards the CEFR. They use it for several purposes and consider its usefulness, authenticity and applicability as positive aspects. The degree of detail and practicality are assessed less positively. The most important recommendation for improvement lies in further fine-tuning and in improving practice and implementation.
