The Development of Specialized Documentation Competence in Translation Students across their Training Translating specialized texts requires specific competences that involve acquiring knowledge about the domain, about the terminology and about the textual genre and stylistic conventions present in source and translation texts. In this process, specialized documentation is crucial because it allows to compensate the lack of expert knowledge by searching for information in specialized documentation sources and helps solving a great part of translation problems. This article explores the development of specialized documentation competence in translation students of a Chilean university across their training. Second, third and fourthyear students carried out two tasks involving thematic and terminological documentation of a medical research article. Results showed that more advanced students are able to identify more relevant resources, to better judge their reliability and to perform more complex search strategies, associated to different stages of the translation process. El presente artículo se centra en las características de la traducción en el ámbito de la política. Clasificamos la historia de la traducción de textos políticos de la China moderna en tres etapas. La parte principal de este artículo consiste en el análisis de algunos aspectos macrológicos y micrológicos de la versión castellana de la obra de Xi Jinping Gobernación y Administración de China. En cuanto al análisis macro de este texto político, nos centramos en las características de la traducción institucional en China. En el análisis micro de la obra, nos fijamos en distintos niveles, desde la textualidad, la retórica o las estructuras oracionales hasta determinados elementos del léxico. Con una metodología indisciplinar que combina teorías políticas y traductológicas, llegaremos a conclusiones sobre las formas de la acción política, las características de las tres etapas y las estrategias utilizadas en la traducción de la obra.

El objetivo del presente trabajo es comparar las notas de traducción de El campesino de París (1979) con las de El aldeano de París (2016) del escritor surrealista francés Louis Aragon, publicadas por Bruguera y Errata Naturae. Con ello, pretendemos confirmar el cambio que se ha experimentado en España a la hora de visibilizar al traductor en las novelas dirigidas a un público culto o erudito. Para llevar a cabo dicho análisis, nos hemos basado en la división realizada por Donaire Fernández (1991) entre notas lingüísticas y culturales. Gracias a él, hemos comprobado que ambas editoriales otorgan un papel importante a las traductoras, aunque es Errata Naturae, la de El aldeano de París (2016), la que más ha dejado oír la voz de la trujamana. Esto corrobora la evolución de la industria editorial actual, que, a través de las notas, visibiliza cada vez más la labor del traductor en las novelas de este tipo.

This article provides an analysis of historical references to translations between Arabic and Berber in the Almohad period. We examine all the data that we have been able to collect and we also perform a brief reconnaissance of the precedents in the Maghreb region. The Almohads translations between Arabic and Berber and the official use of the latter must be considered in the context of islamization and reform promoted by the dynasty, an impulse that could have weakened or disappeared with the last sovereigns. Finally, we seek to respond to the questions that arise from the analysis about the nature and function of these translations.

Doctoral Theses and Translation Studies in Spain. A Bibliometric Analysis based on BITRA This article attempts to provide an analysis of the nature and historical development of Ph.D. theses dealing with translation and interpreting studies (TIS) in Spain. Using a mixed methodology, mainly quantitative but also qualitative as regards the interpretation of the data, the article provides a critical analysis of the doctoral production in Spanish TIS within the context of global TIS. The main parameters under study are the diachronic, productivity in the different universities, length, languages, kind of access, topical distribution and impact. The main source of the data is BITRA (Bibliography of Interpreting and Translation), a holistic database which included over 77,000 entries as of August 2019. The results include a notable productivity of Spanish Ph.D. theses within TS, placing them at the head of the discipline, an open distribution pattern of the languages they are written in and their almost systematic open-access publication in the last two decades.

This paper presents the main results of an empirical study on the metaphors of translation and interpreting used by Bulgarian translators and interpreters. The theoretical framework is provided by second-generation cognitive sciences, in particular, the Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The aim of the work is to explore the metaphorical conceptualization of translation and interpreting in Bulgarian language and to investigate whether the Bulgarian socio-cultural and political environment has facilitated the emergence of specific metaphors, different from those already analyzed in Translation and Interpreting Studies. The results of the study show, on the one hand, the use of the transfer, travel, art and perception metaphors, which are similar to those collected in earlier translation studies, and, on the other hand, the emergence of metaphors related to the Bulgarian political and cultural life during the socialist era: the metaphors of war and of superman, which may be specific of the Bulgarian culture.

En Traductología, la investigación centrada en el fomento de la creatividad se lleva principalmente a cabo en el ámbito de la formación de traductores y los estudios que se realizan son tanto de naturaleza teórica y metodológica como empírica. Desde una aproximación bidisciplinar, que abarca la psicología y la traducción, en este artículo presentamos una propuesta de naturaleza metodológica, que se origina en el contexto de la formación de traductores, combinando la traducción científico-técnica con la traducción de textos humorísticos. Tras quince años formando a futuros traductores en el Grado de Traducción e Interpretación ofertado por nuestra Universidad, hemos observado que aún en los últimos estadios de su formación los estudiantes siguen produciendo traducciones con un elevado grado de literalidad, tanto en el plano léxico como en el plano sintáctico y en el plano pragmático. Fue en respuesta a esta situación como surgió la idea que hemos denominado «el estímulo ICRETRA»: la Incentivación de la competencia CREativa en la formación de TRAductores. ICRETRA consiste en un modelo de formación desarrollado específicamente con el objetivo de fomentar la fluidez y la riqueza expresiva en la práctica de la traducción especializada –en concreto, en la práctica de la traducción científico-técnica–. Con esta finalidad, se diseña una metodología desarrollada a partir de la traducción de textos de naturaleza humorística, que, cuando se implementa de forma sistemática, ayuda a concienciar a los estudiantes de la importancia de activar la competencia creativa para producir traducciones fluidas y naturales.

This paper highlights the need of compiling both monolingual and bilingual comparable ad hoc corpora consisting of official documents in Spanish and English in order to determine terminological and phraseological features of specific legal genres and to have access to specialized concepts within the relevant legal framework. Different types of corpora are characterized and an example of analysis that can be helpful for the translation process of legal texts is included. Particularly, the paper stresses the value of the use of corpora in the search of Spanish-English equivalences for birth and marriage certificates, which were analyzed regarding their internal and external elements.
