The role of prior knowledge has been acknowledged in realm of English Language Teaching, including teaching Listening. Due to the profound role of prior knowledge, experts and practitioners compromise that the first step of teaching listening is building the students’ prior knowledge. However, there is dilemma which background knowledge has the strongest relationship to students’ listening comprehension, either content schemata (Topic Familiarity) or formal schemata (Genre Familiarity). Therefore, this study aimed at investigating the relationship and contribution of topic and genre familiarity to listening comprehension and eventually determining the better predictor of listening comprehension. Furthermore, fourth semester ELT students at Universitas Negeri Malang who were taking advance listening course participated as the subjects in this study. The findings of this study revealed that the contribution of topic familiarity was significantly higher than genre familiarity. This result also pointed out that topic familiarity was better predictor of listening comprehension.

This study is aimed at investigating lecturers’ experience in using mobile phone in English teaching practice. Employing qualitative method using Creswell (2014), the study collected data through in-depth-interview and analyzed data through several steps including data preparation and organization, data reading, data coding, data description, data interpretation, and data presentation. The result of the study indicated that the lecturers mostly implemented MALL and utilized mobile phone for three main purposes, namely instructional need, content understanding development, and communication. However, it was found that problem of internet connection became a barrier to fully implement MALL in ELT.

This study aims at investigating the interlanguage production by Indonesian EFL students in their English compositions. Interlanguage describes the language produced by second or foreign language learners when learning the target language. Forty college students majoring in English for tourism industry were the subjects in this study. In collecting the data, the students were asked to write a recount text with a topic "an experience of visiting a hotel” through a guided writing exercise. The framework of error analysis and interlanguage analysis were used in analyzing the data. The result shows that the students’ interlanguage production is influenced by both Indonesian language as their native language (NL) and English as the target language (TL). The influences were found in both lexical and grammatical forms. This study implies that in learning a foreign language, errors are made by students and by knowing the errors, teachers and tutors can apply appropriate strategies and materials to enhance learning.

Abstract The purpose of this research to determine the shortening process of gairaigo that found in Detective Conan comics by Gosho Aoyama chapter 1000-1040. The type of research is qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data used in this research is the absorption vocabulary (gairaigo) that contained in Detective Conan's comics by Gosho Aoyama chapter 1000-1040. The data source taken is shortening of gairaigo in the Detective Conan comic by Gosho Aoyama in chapter 1000-1040. Based on research results from 161 gairaigo data, there were 29 data are gairaigo whose word formation is derived from shortening wich dividen into 7 clipping data consists of 6 back-clipping and 1 fore-clipping, 20 compound truncation consists of 8 morpho-ortographic truncation compound clipping and 4 ellipsis, also 2 data is combination of clipping and ellipsis.Keywords: shortening, gairaigo.

AbstractThis research is a research on the analysis of the structure and meaning of the jyouken hyougen in the novel sensei ha mahoukkai by Nakamura Kouzou. This study aims to determine the types of presupposition expressions contained in Nakamura Kouzo's Sensei Ha Mahoukkai novel, as well as the structure and meaning of these sentences. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive qualitative methods with semantic and sintaksis design based on the theoretical collaboration of Dedi Sutedi, Masuoka and Sunagawa.The results of this study are, there are 35 data of presupposition expressions. among them, 16 data are the jyouken hyougen of to, 12 data are the jyouken hyougen of tara, and 7 data are the jyouken hyougen of ba. Then, based on the structure, these data generally experience attachment to clauses (S1) and main sentences (S2) in the form of dictionary form verbs, negative verbs, nouns, and adjectives. The most common meanings are, namely, the meaning in the form of cause and effect, habit, the meaning of stating a general event, an event of a natural nature, and how the machine works. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data dari penelitian ini adalah kata, frasa, atau kalimat yang mengandung tindak tutur direktif bahasa Jepang dalam dialog film Flying Colors (ビリギャル) karya sutradara Nobuhiro Doi. Sedangkan sumber data yang diambil dalam penelitian ini yaitu teks dialog bahasa Jepang film Flying Colors (ビリギャル) karya sutradara Nobuhiro Doi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa terdapat 87 data tindak tutur direktif dalam dialog film Flying Colors (ビリギャル) karya sutradara Nobuhiro Doi yang terbagi menjadi empat bentuk, yaitu perintah (meirei) dengan fungsi memerintah, fungsi menyuruh, fungsi menginstruksikan, fungsi mengharuskan, dan fungsi memaksa. Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) Untuk mendeskripsikan faktor internal yang menyebabkan kesulitan belajar mahasiswa dalam mengikuti perkuliahan bahasa Jepang. (2) Untuk mendeskripsikan faktor eksternal yang menyebabkan kesulitan belajar mahasiswa dalam mengikuti perkuliahan bahasa Jepang. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Populasi yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah 25 mahasiswa. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini seluruh populasi. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan angket dan berpedoman pada skala likert. Sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif dengan persentase. Hasil penelitian ini didapatkan (1) faktor internal: indikator minat sebesar 51% berada pada kategori “Sedang”. Artinya adalah indikator ini berdampak sedang dalam menyebabkan kesulitan belajar bahasa Jepang mahasiswa. Indikator sikap terhadap belajar sebesar 48% berada pada kategori “Sedang”. Artinya adalah indikator ini berdampak sedang dalam menyebabkan kesulitan belajar bahasa Jepang mahasiswa. Indikator kesehatan sebesar 41,2% berada pada kategori “Sedang”. Artinya adalah indikator ini berdampak sedang dalam menyebabkan kesulitan belajar bahasa Jepang mahasiswa. (2) Faktor eksternal: indikator lingkungan masyarakat 54,13% berada pada kategori “Sedang”. Artinya adalah indikator ini berdampak sedang dalam menyebabkan kesulitan belajar bahasa Jepang mahasiswa. indikator lingkungan keluarga 50,4% berada pada kategori “Sedang”. Artinya adalah indikator ini berdampak sedang dalam menyebabkan kesulitan belajar bahasa Jepang mahasiswa. dan indikator lingkungan kampus 47,73% berada pada kategori “Sedang”. This study discusses the mastery of hiragana sokuon and youon to students class XII SMAN 7 Padang. The purpose of is for describing the mastery of hiragana sokuon and youon to students class XII SMAN 7 Padang. The type of research used in this study is quantitative research with descriptive methods. The population in this study was a students of class XII SMAN 7 Padang, amounting to 68 people. The sample in this study was a students of class XII MIPA I SMA N 7 Padang, amounting to 30 people. Data of this research is the score of students test in mastery of hiragana sokuon and youon. Based on the results of the research conducted it can be concluded that the mastery of hiragana sokuon and youon in general is in the " sufficient " qualification with an average of 80,83. While the ability of hiragana sokuon is in the " sufficient " qualification with an average of 78,7 and ability in use hiragana youon in qualifications " sufficient " with an average of 83.

The sample in this study was a students of class XII MIPA I SMA N 7 Padang, amounting to 30 people. Data of this research is the score of students test in mastery of hiragana sokuon and youon. Based on the results of the research conducted it can be concluded that the mastery of hiragana sokuon and youon in general is in the \" sufficient \" qualification with an average of 80,83. Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh banyaknya penggunaan kalimat pasif dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Selain itu juga banyak ditemukan pada film, drama, anime, buku pelajaran, novel, komik, dan lain sebagainya. Data Penelitian ini adalah kalimat pasif yang terdapat dalam novel Kasei no Kioku Karya Raymond Jones. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengklasifikasikan dan mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis kalimat pasif bahasa Jepang yang terdapat pada novel Kasei no Kioku. Metode yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis deskriptif, yaitu dengan menjelaskan dan menganalisis kalimat-kalimat pasif yang terdapat dalam novel tersebut. Dari hasil penelitian, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa kalimat pasif yang lebih banyak digunakan dalam novel Kasei no Kioku adalah chokusetsu ukemi dengan jumlah 15 data dari 20 data kalimat pasif yang ditemukan. Data yang paling sedikit ditemukan adalah data daisansha no ukemi yang berjumlah 2 kalimat saja. Sedangkan data mochinushi no ukemi yang ditemukan berjumlah 3 kalimat.

Data dalam penelitian ini adalah kalimat yang menggunakan joshi “noni” dalam manga Black Clover Volume 1-10 tahun 2018 karya Yuki Tabata sebanyak 54 kalimat. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan semua makna joshi “noni” berdasarkan 3 struktur pada teori joshi “noni” yang digunakan. Joshi “noni” yang berada diantara dua klausa dengan makna yang menunjukkan penyebab atau faktor yang berkebalikan/ berlawanan ditemukan 4 kalimat, makna yang menunjukkan hubungan yang berlawanan, kontras, dan perbandingan ditemukan 7 kalimat, makna yang menunjukkan hal yang tak terduga ditemukan 4 kalimat, joshi “noni” yang berada di akhir kalimat dengan makna menunjukkan perasaan tidak puas atau perasaan kecewa dan penyesalan atas terjadinya suatu hal yang tidak sesuai dengan harapan ditemukan 37 kalimat, dan joshi “noni” yang berada sebelum verba bentuk kamus yang menunjukkan makna “untuk...” atau sebuah tujuan ditemukan 2 kalimat.Kata Kunci: Analisis, Joshi noni Abstract The study aims to find out the structure and meaning of joshi "noni" in the Black Clover manga volumes 1 to 10 by Yuki Tabata.
