The diversity of ideas and values between different societies neither can be reduced nor judged as a cultural element from another society, being the only important matter that makes sense within that same culture. From this perspective, this article analyses the dictionary of Diego de Guadix (ca. 1593) to find out how through his narrative this author describes different socio-cultural systems and speaks of the “Others” from an ethnocentric “We”, based on a unilinear socio-religious concept.

From classical rhetoric onwards, it has been acknowledged that memory can help to remember words as well as content, that is, memoria verborum versus memoria rerum. Although the volume of the treatises on ars memorativa had been progressively increasing, there is no integral explanation for the uses and applications of memoria verborum. Likewise, in modern studies, this method has sometimes been confused with the formation of images from their signifier (imagines vocales or a verbo). In the present article a definition of this resource in the light of the encyclopaedic work of Johannes Romberch, author of the Congestorium artificiosae memoriae (Venice, 1520) is offered.

This paper attempts to demonstrate the lexical value of the Vocabulario aymara composed by Ludovico Bertonio in 1616 for Hispanic lexicography. It is an approach to the study of the Andean borrowings present in the dictionary. To this goal, it gives an account of the neologisms found, organised by lexical fields, specifically analyzing the lexicon of food. It offers a selection of contexts in which frequent indigenous terms appear, such as chuño, papa and quinoa, but also cites other less common ones, such as achacana, sancayo or tunta. Thus, reliable early records of Andeanisms are presented, as well as relevant etymological evidence. Nevertheless, some considerations are made about the validity and representation of this indigenous lexicon in the reference dictionaries of the DLE and the DAM.

This article investigates the transgressive will of female and feminist poetry in the poetic work of the writer Cristina Peri Rossi, who has recognized pursuing an ethical will of writing to face the injustices of her time. Recently, she has been awarded the Cervantes Prize 2021, the most important award in Spanish-language literature, granted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, which is given to the recognition of an entire literary career. The objective of this essay has been to verify how in many of her verses Cristina Peri Rossi, aided by the word poetic, puts together a discursive strategy against the prevailing machismo and misogyny. A large part of the Rossinian poetic work is articulated as well as a space of resistance facing an androcentric canon that has made female writing impossible and invisible. Not in vain, Peri Rossi’s writing project was originally born as a transgression of the female fatum, conquering the place of enunciation, taking the poetic voice and subverting through language the writing that had been denied to her.

The purpose of this article is to investigate the lexicographic treatment of zoonyms and phytonyms in differential dictionaries, by taking into account the descriptive approach. Moreover, the microstructure of lexicographic articles of these lexical contents is analyzed in seven dictionaries of Colombianisms with the objective of providing a general overview of the lexicographic representation of these units, as well as an approach to the evolution of their treatment in lexical repertoires of regionalisms. In addition, the pending tasks regarding zoonyms and phytonyms study and analysis in dialectal lexicography is presented.

This paper examines the alternation of the pronouns quien/el que in the relative clauses with antecedent of human reference in the 20th century. Based on a corpus of ego-documents (mainly private letters, but also diaries and memoirs), and from a variationist methodology, the study analizes the linguistic and sociolinguistic factors that favour the gradual recovery of constructions with quien as opposed to the still dominant use of the forms with the article. The research shows that the structural factors that had been decisive for the survival of these constructions in the 18th and 19th centuries are the ones that favour the change of trend, as well as the incidence of the sociolectal factor that points to the so-called change from above.

In this paper we have focused our attention on the Neo-Latin epic poem entitled Lyrae Heroycae libri quatuordecim (Salamanca, Matías Gast, 1581) by the Spanish humanist Francisco Núñez de Oria. This epic poem, as little known as its author, combines two a priori antagonistic traditions: the classical epic canon and the novel subject of chivalry. However, we can also observe a notable influence of Ovid in this poem, as well as of Breton literature, who, although to a lesser extent than Virgil, is very present in the different metamorphoses of characters and in different allusions of a mythological nature. In the following pages, we will study how the humanist uses these transformations and mythological allusions from different traditions in a Christian key, as part of the same symbolic reading.

The analysis of sources and similarities between excerpts will shed light on the intertextual relationship between these authors and their works. Their lives and historiographical works will be introduced too, being the origin of the above-mentioned publications.

Metalexicography study of Vocabulario de afronegrismos, published by Carlos Larrazábal Blanco in 1941, aims to deepen the knowledge of one of the first approaches to Dominican Spanish lexicography, focused on the lexical field of afronegrisms. Its historical contextualization, macro and microstructural analysis and its critical review of the results provide essential information to edit its contents, intended to be included in the projects “Tesoro lexicográfico del español dominicano” and “Tesoro lexicográfico del español en América” (TLEAM).
