Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis isu sosial dengan lebih terperinci dalam karya kartun editorial Jamdin Buyong yang telah terbit dalam koranSabah Times pada tahun 1967. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif. Dalam penyelidikan ini, pendekatan kualitatif akan digunakan dalam menganalisis kandungan (content analysis). Pengumpulan data dilakukan berdasarkan 3 sumber yaitu sumber primer, sekunder, dan sumber lisan. Sumber primer dalam penelitian ini adalah kartun editorial Jamdin Buyong. Sumber sekunder diperoleh darisumber-sumber berbentuk koran, buku-buku sejarah, jurnal, disertasi dan sebagainya. Sumber lisan (temubual) disifatkan sebagai sebuah saluran kepada pengkaji. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam kajian ini ialah teknik menganalisis dokumen, dan data temubual. Hasil kajian ini membuktikan bahwa penghasilan kartun dalam bentuk representasi atau simbolik digunakan pelukis untuk membuat pernyataan kritikan yang bersifat lucu, tajam atau menyindir. Tujuannya adalah untuk menyampaikan pesan, nasihat dan pengajaran kepada masyarakat yang menyandarkan nilai-nilai positif dan moral yang baik kepada masyarakat. Kandungan nilai-nilai dalam kartun ini memperlihatkan isu sosial pemuda dan pemudi yang berlaku sejak era tahun 60-an hingga kini.SIGNS, OBJECTS, AND INTERPRETANTS WITHIN JAMDIN BUYONG’S EDITORIAL CARTOONSThis study aims to analyse social issues contained in Jamdin Buyong's editorial cartoons, published in the Sabah Times newspaper in 1967, in details. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap nilai-nilai nasionalisme yang terkandung di dalam Serat Tripama. Sumber data yang dipakai sebagai bahan penelitian adalah naskah Serat Tripama karya KGPAA Mangkunegara IV koleksi Musium Sana Budaya kode P28 Kempalan Serat Warni-Warni, SK 20 397. Naskah menggunakan bahasa Jawa disajikan dalam bentuk tembang macapat dhandhanggula berjumlah tujuh bait beraksara Jawa carik Rol 111 no.2. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Transliterasi teks dilakukan untuk mengkaji, mengetahui, dan menjabarkan isi teks. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode baca catat. Analisis data menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif. Triangulasi sumber digunakan untuk validasi data, sedangkan reliabilitas menggunakan intrarater. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Serat Tripama memuat nilai-nilai nasionalisme yang masih relevan diterapkan pada masa sekarang terutama sebagai sarana pendidikan karakter. Nilai-nilai nasionalisme dalam Serat Tripama tercermin melalui tiga tokoh pewayangan; Patih Suwanda, Raden Kumbakarna, dan Adipati Karna.Adapun nilai-nilai nasionalisme yang dapat dijadikan sebagai sarana pendidikan karakter di dalam Serat Tripama adalah cinta tanah air, semangat kebangsaan dan menghargai perbedaan.NATIONALISM VALUES IN “SERAT TRIPAMA”, BY MANGKUNEGARA IV, AS A MEANS OF CHARACTER EDUCATIONThis study attempts to uncover the nationalism values contained in Serat Tripama. The manuscript of “Serat Tripama” by KGPAA Mangkunegara IV was the main data source and it was a collection of Sana Budaya Museum, coded P28 Kempalan Warna-warni, SK 20 397. This manuscript was written in Javanese in the form of Macapat songs (Dhandhanggula) with a total of 7 stanzas, using Javanese Carik alphabets Rol 111 number 2. A qualitative method was employed in this study. The transliteration of the text was carried out to examine, identify, and describe the contents of the manuscript. The data were collected using the note-taking method which were then analysed using descriptive analysis technique. Triangulation of sources was used for data validation, while intrarater was carried out to ensure the reliability of the data. The results presented that “Serat Tripama” contained a number of nationalism values which are still relevant and can be applied in today’s circumstances, especially as a means of character education. The values which comprise love towards motherland, spirit of nationalism, and respect for differences were reflected through the three puppet figures: Patih Suwanda, Raden Kumbakarna, and Adipati Karna which can be used as a means of character education.

The dual-role of the students of English Education Department Teacher Training and Education Faculty Muria Kudus University as both English language learners and language users gets them to be autonomous, effective, efficient, and strategic readers. The objective of this research is to investigate the relationship between quality of the reading strategy and academic achievement of the students. The subjects of this research were 104 students of EED UMK comprising of all semesters taken randomly. The instrument used was closed-ended questionnaire. The result of this research reveals that there is no relationship between quality of the reading strategy and academic achievement, meaning that the quality of reading strategy does not influence the academic achievement of the students. Implikasions and recommendations for the institution and for further research were proposed.

The purpose of this study was to describe the use of Total Physical Response (TPR) method on early childhood English Language Teaching (ELT) at Panti Asuhan Yauma Jakarta and to know the students’ response after learning English using TPR method. The method of the research is descriptive qualitative. In this research the researcher describes the activities carried out by teachers and students by using TPR method. The data resources are from teacher and students in Panti Asuhan Yauma Jakarta . The class consist of 6 students which their age was around 5 to 11 years old. The data collected through observation and interview both teacher and students. The instruments were pre-test and post-test with 2 (two) criterion being assessed, namely vocabulary and comprehension. They were divided into 6 (six) elements such as accuracy of word, understanding each word, word choice, understanding the meaning, speaking easily,and intonation. The results showed that there was any improvement on vocabulary score about 26.16 and comprehension score about 27.16. The research finding firstly showed the TPR method was able to be applied to children because they enjoyed and were also very active in learning English. The researcher hopes that the study contributes to the activities of teaching and learning English, especially teaching English for early childhood. It was proved by the score from pre-test and post-test.

The 112 Semarang State University Rayon 2017 held 6 stages ofTPET (Teacher Professional Education and Training which eachstage consistsof 6 classes) for elementary school teachers. One ofthe goals is toincrease the creativity of theparticipants. Theproblem in this study ishow effective is TPET in increasing teachercreativity? Given that thereare many factors that influence teachercreativity as a manifestation of thesuccess of the TPET, in themanagement of education and training, one ofthe determiningfactors needs to be chosen; which in this study is limitedto theinternal factors of the teacher in question, namely: (1)independence, (2) teacher's understanding and (3) teacherdiscipline after theTPET. The next problem, among others:independence, Teacher's understanding and (3) discipline, whichfactors determine the effectiveness ofTPETin increasing teachercreativity? Data was collected with a rating scale that has beentested valid and reliable.TPETis effective in shaping teachercreativity. There is only 1 predictor variable, namely teachingdiscipline which is a determinant of teacher creativity. Teacherdiscipline influences (positive and significant) on teacher creativityby 35.80%. Both variables: understanding and independence areexcluded from this model.

TOEFL is one of the tests used to measure a person's level of English with three forms of tests, namely (1) listening comprehension, (2) structure and written expression, and (3) reading comprehension. In addition to being used as a requirement when applying for a job, the test is also used by students for the purpose of college or as a condition for graduation. However, there are several universities that do not carry out these tests, one of which is Kaltara University. This study aims to describe kinds of TOEFL tests which are able to work by Kaltara University students. The research method used is qualitative. This study uses data collection techniques, namely: (1) observation, (2) interviews, and (3) document analysis. The data analysis techniques used are Miles and Huberman Models. The results of this study indicate that (1) the hardest test done by the students is listening, meanwhile the easiest test done is structure and written expression; and (2) the ability of Kaltara University students had an average TOEFL score, 460 which was categorized as a minimum standard. Therefore, there needs to be an increase in TOEFL scores for Kaltara University students.

In addition to being used as a requirement when applying for a job, the test is also used by students for the purpose of college or as a condition for graduation. However, there are several universities that do not carry out these tests, one of which is Kaltara University. This study aims to describe kinds of TOEFL tests which are able to work by Kaltara University students. The research method used is qualitative. This study uses data collection techniques, namely: (1) observation, (2) interviews, and (3) document analysis. The data analysis techniques used are Miles and Huberman Models. The results of this study indicate that (1) the hardest test done by the students is listening, meanwhile the easiest test done is structure and written expression; and (2) the ability of Kaltara University students had an average TOEFL score, 460 which was categorized as a minimum standard. This study analyzes the negative effects of ethnocentrism in My Big Fat Greek Wedding movie by Joel Zwick. The data were in the form of dialogues and monologues collected by watching the movie, reading the script, identifying the data based on the research problem, and classifying the data.. Based on the findings, there are three negative effects of ethnocentrism shown by ethnocentric people. First, ethnocentrism builds a strong belief that their culture is superior to others. Second, ethnocentric people will perform high level of egocentrism. Third, ethnocentrism will affect inter-cultural communication in negative way. These three negative effects happen because ethnocentric people tend to focus only in group and evaluate other cultures based on their standards.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengindentifikasi bentuk pembinaan yang dilakukan sekolah dalam menangani perilaku menyimpang remaja (juvenile delinquensi) bagi siswa SMA. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini pengumpulan data wawancara tertulis. Wawancara tertulis dilakukan kepada mahasiswa baru program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta saat berada di semester 1. Mahasiswa baru merupakan alumni yang baru saja lulus dari SMA dengan pengalaman sebagai pengamat dan atau juga pelaku kenakalan remaja yang terjadi di sekolah. Selain itu, wawancara juga dilakukan kepada guru bimbingan konseling sekolah menengah atas yang ada di Surakarta. Wawancara tertulis ini dilakukan secara snowball yang selanjutnya dianalisis dengan analisis isi (content analysis). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 7 variasi bentuk pembinaan yang dilakukan sekolah, di antaranya (1) pemberian nasihat, (2) pemberian motivasi, (3) pemberian pengarahan dan memanggil wali murid, (4) sosialisasi pengenalan lingkungan sekolah saat MOS, (5) hukuman yang disesuaikan dengan jenis pelanggaran, (6) diberi pelatihan dasar kepemimpinan, dan (7) dilakukan home visiting. This study was aimed at describing and analyzing the moral teaching values in Kridhasastra Fiber by Mas Ngabei Mangunwijaya. The method used was descriptive-analytical and modern philology approaches. Modern philology approach was used to analyze manuscripts and text on Kridhasastra Fiber based on the steps of philological research work. Descriptions are carried out to raise the values contained in the text which become research data and research data analysis. The results of the study and discussion show that the moral teaching values contained in the Kridhasastra Fiber text contained four things. They are related to the element of human occurrence, namely, the conception of God and Manunggaling Kawula-Gusti, divinity (Allah) and His creation, the personality of the wise and noble/main person. In the text of the Kridhasastra Fiber, it is explained that as God’s creation, human beings have an obligation, which is always to remember their identity as creatures who must always carry out their obligations as best they can. Humans also must always do good. Humans should always strive throughout their lives to achieve and maintain the safety of their soul and body and live their lives by always prioritizing good character, utilizing their intelligence in a calculated and positive manner.Orientasi Nilai Ajaran Moral dalam Serat Kridhasastra Karya Mas Ngabei MangunwijayaPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis nilai ajaran moral dalam Serat Kridhasastra Karya Mas Ngabei Mangunwijaya. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif-analitis dan pendekatan filologi modern. pendekatan filologi modern digunakan untuk menganalisis naskah dan teks Serat Kridhasastra berdasarkan langkah kerja penelitian filologi. Deskripsi dilakukan untuk mengangkat nilai-nilai yang dimuat dalam teks yang menjadi data penelitian dan analisis data penelitian. Hasil penelitian dan pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa nilai ajaran moral yang dimuat di dalam naskah Serat Kridhasastra terdapat empat hal yang terkait dengan unsur terjadinya manusia yakni, konsepsi tentang Tuhan dan Manunggaling Kawula-Gusti, ketuhanan (Allah) dan ciptaan-Nya, kepribadian orang yang bijaksana dan orang yang luhur/utama. Dalam teks Serat Kridhasastra diuraikan bahwa sebagai ciptaan Tuhan, manusia mempunyai kewajiban, yaitu senantiasa ingat akan jati dirinya sebagai makhluk yang harus senantiasa melaksanakan kewajibannya sebaik mungkin. Manusia juga harus senantiasa berbuat kebajikan. Manusia hendaknya manusia selalu mengusahakan terus sepanjang hidupnya untuk mencapai dan menjaga keselamatan jiwa dan raga dan menjalani kehidupannya dengan senantiasa mengu-tamakan watak baik, memanfaatkan kepandaiannya dengan penuh perhitungan dan positif.
