The cerebellum is one of the most important structures in the posterior cranial fossa. The objectives of this study were to characterize the cerebellum and cerebrum by measuring the cerebellum height , vermians AP width in the mid-sagittal plane , the maximum cerebellar hemispheric width in axial plane and the cerebrum length and width, using MRI ,as well as to determine the impact of age and gender on the measurements in healthy Sudanese adults. The data were obtained from MR multi planes images done for 100 healthy Sudanese subjects, their mean age was 42.36±17.87 years old (Min=14.00, Max=80.00 years). Norms for Sudanese cerebellum and cerebrum measurements were established. The cereberum length was affected by age significantly at p=0.004; however no age related differences were noticed in the cerebellum measurements. The degree of the reduction in the cerebellar measurements is mild and unlikely to be significant. Smaller measurements of cerebellum and cerebrum were noticed in females than males, where the cerebellum hemisphere maximum width and cerebrum length were affected significantly by gender, while the cerebellum height and AP vermian width were not significantly correlated with gender. The results of this study provide a valuable addition to the normative database of the cerebellar and cerebrum anatomy for Sudanese .These data are an attempt to support the norms of the cerebellum data measured in axial and saggital images. It should be taken into account in functional imaging studies of aging, when the cerebellum is considered as an appropriate structure for reference and normalization for Sudanese.

As the life expectancy of the population increases, we are increasingly confronted with chronic diseases. Periodontal disease and chronic inflammatory diseases have in common the development of an inflammatory response. Recently, studies have shown that there is an increasingly clear link between the inflammatory mechanisms of periodontal disease and those of chronic inflammatory diseases such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular problems, and so on. The aim of this work is to present the results of the most recent studies on the bi-directional relationship between periodontitis and some chronic systemic diseases: cardiovascular risk, coronaropathy, atherosclerosis, obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. To do so, we carried out a bibliographic review based on 29 articles, 2 books and a web page. The articles were searched on the PUBMED database, and 23 of them were published after 2012. Periodontal disease, through complex chain reaction mechanisms, has an impact not only on oral health, but also on the overall health of the host. It is an important cardiovascular and inflammatory risk factor. A periodontitis, if diagnosed and treated in time, may not involve so much morbidity. Studies of periodontal disease are increasing in number and tend to show increasing links with other diseases, such as respiratory diseases, renal diseases and pregnancy accidents.

Background: Primary open angle glaucoma is the commonest form of glaucoma accounting for atleast half of all the glaucomas. It is also known as chronic open angle glaucoma and chronic simple glaucoma. It is typically asymptomatic until significant visual field loss has occurred. Patients usually present with significant visual field loss in one eye and advanced disease in the other. Diabetes Mellitus is one of the risk factors for POAG. Objectives: • To study the hospital based prevalence of POAG among the diabetic patients attending Tertiary Eye Hospital camp. • To screen all diabetics for glaucoma. Methods: Four hundred diabetic patients, both insulin dependent and non insulin dependent, above forty years of age, attending Tertiary Eye Hospital, who came to Department of Ophthalmology through camp, between September 2016 and May2017, were screened for the detection of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma. Results: The results of the study show a clear evidence of an excess of POAG in diabetic population, which was 7.53 % .The prevalence among males was slightly more (4.41 %) as compared to females (3.12%). At present study, the mean age of POAG among males was 54.5 yrs and 50.0 yrs among females. This study show that the prevalence of POAG and the duration of DM was proportional and that the mean blood glucose level was higher in diabetics with POAG.

Purpose: To assess the effects of treating hyperthyroidism with antithyroid drugs, iodine-131 and surgery on development or aggravation of Graves’ ophthalmopathy (TAO) . Methods: A prospective analysis of 52 patients diagnosed with hyperthyroidism caused by Graves’ disease in Department of Surgery and Ophthalmology, Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, Jhansi from November 2014 to May 2017 was performed. The patients were stratified in two study groups: group1(age 20 to 55 years) received treatment with methimazole or iodine-131 and group 2(20 to 55 years) cases underwent subtotal thyroidectomy. The main outcome measures included clinical findings of ophthalmopathy, radiological features (NCCT head with orbits) and treatment options. Results: 12 patients(23%) presented with infiltrative ophthalmopathy at randomization while 22 cases (42.3%) had palpable thyroid mass. The mean age (years) was 44.8 ± 4.68 (range 20-55) and 46.6 ± 5.53 (range 2055) in group 1 and 2 respectively . During follow-up period of 12 months, ophthalmopathy developed in 14 cases(27%) amd worsened in 10 cases(19.2%). Conclusion: In our study both groups showed development or exacerbation of orbitopathy after medical and surgical treatments, however iodine-131 treatment showed more number of cases for the same as compared to methimazole and surgery.

Inner Thigh Rashes (ITR) is a syndrome represented by mild skin lesions usually characterized as erythematous, slightly inflamed, and with either pruritus or burning sensation. It is typical in sportmen, joggers and bikers and depends on too many factors, as wetting, chafe and rubbing and perpetual contact with allergic fabric and their dyes during training. We have chosen a panel group of 11 bikers who like to ride 60 km/day and after having stated all the grades of the skin erythemas and all symptoms of ITR, we prayed them to apply two emulsions apt to cure all the causes that evoke ITR. To do this, we have prayed the volunteers to respond to questionnaires and we have examinated day after day for a week, noticing the eventual remission, that can be designated in 3-4 days for almost 70% of cases. We have treated a male, very pilous and presenting a pletora of blisters with an intense skin redness. This case was really particular, even if after one week some satisfying result has been reached.

Background And ObjectivesTreatment timing has a significant role in the outcome of all dentofacial orthopedic treatments for dentoskeletal disharmonies in growing patients. Dental maturation has been proposed to be a clinically useful diagnostic aid for the identification of individual skeletal maturation stages. Aims: 1) To correlate dental calcification stages with MP3 stages in skeletal age estimation using CBCT of the left mandibular posterior teeth. 2) To determine whether dental calcification can be used as a first level diagnostic tool for assessment of skeletal maturity with MP3 stages. Materials And Method – Study design included a total sample size of 30 including boys and girls, between the age group of 8 to 18 years visiting Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences for orthodontic treatment. After analyzing the skeletal maturity through MP3 stages of each individual, it was compared with CBCT images Panoramic view and the respective stages of MP3 were correlated with CBCT Panoramic view for each tooth under investigation. The data was subjected to statistical analysis to determine the degree of correlation between the two maturation indices i.e. dental maturity and skeletal maturity with the help of Spearman Rank correlation coefficient and Sensitivity –Specificity analysis was done to identify the diagnostic ability of tooth mineralization stages to be used as a first level diagnostic tool for identification of skeletal maturity over other methods. Results: 1) Significant correlation was seen between dental mineralization stages and MP3 method of skeletal maturation with 2 nd premolar stages being most reliable for skeletal maturity assessment. 2) The acceptability of the method to be used as first level Diagnostic tool is still not clear, though it can be used as a supplemental method along with principal method for skeletal maturity assessment. ConclusionBased on our study it is clear that second premolar has the highest significance level to rely on mineralization stage of the teeth to assess the skeletal maturity, and DMS method is more accurate in diagnosis of prepubertal individual than post pubertal individual with 2 nd molar having the highest sensitivity.

Surgery is the oldest and continues to be the most reliable form of treatment of malignancy. The treatment of the neck in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the upper aero-digestive tract and other neoplasms of the head and neck region continues to be one of the most controversial issues in head and neck oncology. It is very crucial for an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to have a depth of knowledge in the surgical anatomy of neck, levels of lymph nodes, incisions, flaps, various types of neck dissections its indications, contraindications, advantages, disadvantages and complications. This review on neck dissection is published for providing the information in detail.
