FORMATION OF SECONDARY LINGUISTIC PERSONALITY OF CHINESE STUDENTS LEARNING RUSSIAN 中国学生学习俄语的次要语言人格的形成

In this article, we consider the specifics of the linguistic personality formation of Chinese students learning Russian in the context of professional academic discourse. The linguistic personality analysis is based on the model by Yu.N. Karaulov, which comprises the verbal-and-semantic, thesaurus, and motivation levels. In our work, we pay attention to the specific features of each level. We distinguished the mistakes, which В1-С1 Chinese students learning Russian as a foreign language make when they construct monologues and dialogues. Based on the conducted questionnaire survey, we have determined the Russian proficiency level in terms of the language system, as well as revealed the knowledge of precedent names.

CULTURAL COMPONENT IN THE SEMANTICS OF SET EXPRESSIONS 集合表达式语义中的文化成分

The article deals with a study at the intersection of cultural studies, linguoculturology and semantics. It is devoted to the analysis of the cultural background of stable expressions on the example of British linguoculture. An overview of values as cultural categories is offered. The concept of “values” is revealed. The types of values are detailed, their brief characteristics are offered. An attempt is made to analyze the values of the British people stored in the semantics of set expressions.

THE HISTORY OF THE BOUND ROOT *MЪK 绑定根的历史* mЪk

This article is devoted to the problem of the formation of vocabulary with the bound root (radixoid) *mъk. The purpose of the article is to identify a set of reasons that together led to the emergence of this radixoid. The basis for the study was the data of historical and etymological dictionaries, as well as the data of The National Corpus of the Russian language. As a result of the study, the facts of de-etymologization were revealed, the reasons that led to semantic shifts were substantiated. In the course of the evolution of this group of vocabulary, the split of the once unified etymological family of this word into several word-formation families. Not all units of these formations have preserved semantic unity among themselves. However, some families with the radixoid *mъk can be united on the principle of commonality of meaning.

The speech act “gratitude” in the Iranian linguocultural environment can convey not only the direct meaning of lexical units in which it is customary to express gratitude on various occasions; but also a wide range of psychic emotions — the speaker’s empathies in various forms and formulas of a specific Iranian politeness code known as taarof. The variety of forms of politeness in the Persian language and their non-coincidence with the forms of expressing gratitude in Russian sometimes hampers understanding between recipients due to the lack of adequate correlates in translation. Based on the analysis of the forms of expression of the speech act “gratitude” in Persian and Russian and their comparison, we have made an attempt to translate these forms of politeness into Russian and show their great variability in various situations of communication. The performed analysis will make it possible to better and more fully understand the difference in the cultural code of the speakers of both languages and help them avoid possible misunderstandings in communication, as well as focus teachers of Persian and Russian on creating educational materials and methods for more targeted teaching of students of both languages, taking into account the speech pragmatics.

ANALYSIS OF ANTHROPONYMS IN “DREAM IN THE RED CHAMBER” BY CAO XUEQIN 曹雪芹《红楼梦》中的拟人词分析

The article provides a semantic interpretation of the protagonists’ names, surnames, and nicknames from “Dream of the Red Chamber” by Cao Xueqin. “Dream of the Red Chamber” is one of the most significant pieces in Chinese literature, among other things, in the perspective of structural, semantic and functional aspects of characters’ anthroponyms. The academic novelty of this research is determined by a complex and detailed analysis of the anthroponomic structure of the characters’ names in the aforenamed imaginative text. The paper also provides semantic interpretation of protagonists’ naming and defines the role of proper names in creating artistic images of protagonists. As a result, the paper proves that the author of “Dream of the Red Chamber” did not choose proper names randomly but through them pursued a range of artistic goals. The choice of the names is an additional key to understanding the novel.

The purpose of this article is to consider the issue of the intercategorial intersection of the interacting categories of taxis, temporality and temporal localization. The category of taxis is considered to be the center or focus of intercategorial connections leading to the categories of temporality and temporal localization. The category of taxis acts as a semantic marker, while the categories of temporality and temporal localization act as a semantic background. As a result of the study, it was found that the intersection of the categories of taxis, temporality and temporal localization is based on the semantic function of taxis and determines the actualization of primary-taxis situations of simultaneity, precedence and posteriority in German statements with temporal prepositions, temporal, local, iterative quantifiers and distributive verbs.

The article presents an analysis of the associative responses of residents of Chelyabinsk and guests of the city, associated with the perception of the urban environment, urban objects, well-known places, famous personalities, the image of the city and its residents in general. It is important to find out the associative core and peripheral meanings of the city image because it can be used to solve the problems of socio-cultural adaptation when introduced into the school educational system. Acquaintance with famous places and people, knowledge of historical facts and unique features of the city and region can have a positive impact on the formation of the image of a Russian citizen in the linguistic consciousness of the younger generation. The material presented in this study shows a complex, contrasting attitude towards the city, primarily due to the fact that current generations do not perceive Chelyabinsk as a city of labour merit, as one of the key elements of the stronghold of the country, but note serious environmental problems and an unfavorable external environment for human life (two sides of the same coin). This study can form the basis for identifying specific unique regional lexical components associated with Chelyabinsk and the Chelyabinsk Region, which can contribute to the formation of a positive image of this location.

ECOLINGUISTICS OF TEACHING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE AS A LANGUAGE OF INTERETHNIC COMMUNICATION 作为跨民族交际语言的外语教学生态语言学

The article outlines the ecolinguistic principles and strategies of teaching a foreign language as a language of interethnic communication. The ecolinguistic approach assumes that teaching a foreign language as a language of interethnic communication should promote communication around the world, without violating the original linguistic traditions of nations, nationalities and ethnic groups, provide linguistic and cultural diversity, a culturally rich, but united world. In this regard, a foreign language is also intended to serve the needs of host cultures, to preserve and emphasize their uniqueness. As a language of international communication, a foreign language is seen not as a full-fledged linguoculturally filled language, but as a code for the transmission of personal and national linguoculturally conditioned messages. This kind of code should adapt to the needs and requirements of the world community, borrowing designations with appropriate meanings from national languages, and not vice versa. Rather than level cultures and civilizations, we see its role as reflecting their diversity. Ecolinguistic strategies for teaching a foreign language as a language of interethnic communication proposed, in line with which it is deemed desirable for foreign language curricula to represent: 1) to the maximum — global issues, world heritage, history/modernity/future, 2) extensively — modernity, history, culture of host cultures, 3) to a moderate degree — modernity, history, culture of the country of a foreign language (10–20 % of the educational material). When teaching a foreign language, traditional language pedagogy is preferred, the linguocultural method combined with immersion are deemed not quite ecolinguistic because of foreign acculturation. It is welcome though when teaching the national/native language to create a strong cultural identity (inculturation) and immunity to foreignization. In TEFL, immersion can be used, but without acculturation. Excessive branding of foreign realities and personalities as part of foreign acculturation is not believed to be sustainable. Foreign language textbooks should be politically correct and tolerant, especially with regard to facts, history, values, personalities of the host culture; traditional moral and ideological conclusions should ensue from the texts. The national/native language should be used as a rightful metalanguage of explanation when comparing cultural phenomena. It is advisable to write and publish foreign language textbooks by the authors of the host culture.

This article discusses the features of linguistic and cultural accents within the language for special purposes of the forest cluster. The most functional and productive markers in this sense are linguistic and extralinguistic stoppers involved in the special spaсе of the profile text. Stoppers participate in the process of information exchange based on ethnic realities, strengthen communication in the field of forestry, nature management, logging and woodworking with precedent fragments of a specific geolocative linguistic and cultural environment.

The article is devoted to the systematization of the names of the main agent of veterinary discourse — a person who treats animals and prevents their diseases. The nomasiological approach is applied which includes description of the nominations in their connection with changing ideas about veterinary in diachrony. The material of the study is the names of a professional treating animals, recorded in explanatory dictionaries, professional referencebooks and documents, historical sources, fiction, journalism. Designations common to medicine and veterinary medicine, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, for traditional rural crafts and treatment of animals are specified.
