The article presents a comprehensive analysis of toponymic vocabulary associated with the Kostroma region, in the memoir essay of the philosopher and writer Alexander Alexandrovich Zinoviev «In Godforsaken Place», included by the author in the book «Confessions of a Renegade». The purpose of the study is to identify the semantic and communicative-pragmatic properties of dominant toponyms which are actively involved in organizing memoir narration, forming text meanings, explicating the conceptual content of the work, creating the author's modality. The study of toponyms in contextual environment is based on the genre and stylistic features of the memoir text: the combination of two temporal plans (past and present); the combination of objective reliability and individual subjectivity. The author of the article gives a brief overview of modern linguistic studies of toponymy in the Russian speech system and presents a classification of toponyms which are subdivided in the analyzed text into placenames and hydronyms. The article characterizes toponymic dominants of the memories: the name of Kostroma city and the name of the writer’s native village Pakhtino. The author of the article presents a coherent study of the key toponyms in some parts of the memoir text. The title of the section «From Pakhtino to New York» uses contextual antonyms that first create an antithesis, and are used as a part of a gradation series, but then, in the process of developing textual semantics, form an enantiosemy, uniting opposite objects of reality: a Russian provincial village and a large American city. With the help of several stylistic devices (antitheses, gradations, enantiosemy), the writer expands the boundaries of the narrative, depicts the universal scale of events, reflects ideas about indigenous Russian spiritual values and life priorities of the Western world. The toponym Kostroma is used in an ironic context: the memoirist quotes his poetic work, where he mentions his hometown which is not particularly different from other cities, since everyday bustle reigns in them all. Further, in the section «Russian Hinterland», Kostroma is named among other Russian cities, becoming a symbol of a more prosperous life and participates in creating the city-village opposition. The key hydronyms of the memories are the names of the Viga and Volga rivers. Their semantic interaction with the names of provincial settlements is actualized in the context. The evaluative vocabulary becomes the means of creating the writer's modality with positive textual connotations prevailing. In conclusion, the author of the article emphasizes the role of Kostroma toponyms in forming the chronotopic characteristics of the text and the communicative organization of the memoir discourse.

The article is devoted to the study of the speech act «silence» which is considered as an integral part of interpersonal sacred communication. In this article, for the first time, the communicative situation is analyzed on the basis of the texts of the Holy Scripture, when a believer acts as a speaker, and God becomes the silent addressee. The involvement of the addressant – the speaker and the addressee – the silent God in the communicative process becomes a distinctive feature of the sacred communicative act «silence». The study shows that silence is an obvious significant structural component of interaction. Targeting, intentionality and purposefulness can be considered the main communicative characteristics of silence as a speech act. Analyzing the biblical material, the author of the article comes to the following conclusions: 1) silence, unlike other speech acts, becomes more effective in an interpersonal sacred situation; 2) silence is the most expressive and convenient way of transmitting information; 3) silence is a strategic tool that is used to express a communicative goal related to the spiritual transformation of a person; 4) silence in interpersonal communication is used by God as a means of influencing the interlocutor; 5) the perception of silence by the listener depends on the communicative situation, and the correct interpretation of the addressee's intentions directly depends on the addressant's presuppositional spiritual knowledge. The results of the study are important in order to understand the essence of religious communication, to have an objective idea of the process of religious communication.

The article deals with one of the most important elements of the imagery in the novel «Resurrection» – the motif of the way, as well as the polysemantic image of the traveler correlating with it. Discussing the possible influences on Tolstoy by his predecessors, the author of the article turns to Gogol's poem Dead Souls and states that Nekhludov's path can be roughly correlated with Chichikov's path: numerous non-accidental encounters and coincidences happening to both characters are significant. The author shows that for Chichikov and Nekhludov, completely different characters on different paths, it is on the epic road that the insights into people' lives and the understanding of the generous soul of a simple Russian man are characteristic. In many ways, following Gogol, Tolstoy leads the reader to the idea of human change as a result of one's interactions with other people. Due to his harsh attitude to the Church, Tolstoy unfairly rejected much of Gogol's work, accusing the writer of dogmatism. The author of the article notes that Tolstoy's treatment of Gogol was, apparently, a consistent necessity, allowing him to avoid contradictions in his own teachings. The article analyzes Nekhludov's active transformation throughout the three parts of the novel «Resurrection», showing that the hero passes a significant path from his own self to the outside world, to other people's interests. The stage of active conscious movement of the hero begins with a trip to his own estates, and does not stop until the end of the novel. Dmitry Nekhludov – quite a novel hero at first glance – takes precisely an epic journey. Particular attention is paid to the image of the traveler, which has a double meaning: it is associated with the idea of an easy and happy journey, as well as a person’s independence and the acquisition of spiritual freedom. Tolstoy's preaching pathos in his later years, the broad and truthful illustration of people's suffering, as well as the theme of human resurrection and transformation are harmoniously integrated into the epic novel Resurrection and simultaneously support its genre diversity.

The author examines the emotive strategy of Hieromonk Simeon of Polotsk in the context of the patristic doctrine of the image and Christian emotiology. In particular, it is noted that in patristic anthropology it is the image, but not the concept, that is considered the most productive tool of cognition; the sensory-emotional sphere of human existence is divided into «emotions of transformation», which contribute through catharsis to the deification of a person, and «emotions of suggestion», manipulatively suggesting the author's ideas to the recipient, the former being welcomed in artistic creation, the latter being condemned. From this point of view, baroque works, even while remaining in the circle of religious themes, demonstrate a secular attitude towards the sphere of emotions – the construction of manipulative emotiveness by rational methods. Such emotiveness secularizes as creativity itself, taking it beyond the boundaries of the Christian artistic canon: the spiritual nourishment of the reader (the task of Christian pedagogy) is replaced by aesthetic and intellectual pleasure (the task of barroque aesthetics and epistemology). Hieromonk Simeon Polotsky gives vivid examples of the rational construction of emotiveness in works of different genres and the secularization of creativity. The «Psaltir' rifmotvornaya» he transcribed provides the reader with the opportunity to turn the prayer rule into a home concert; in comedies, the refined emotiveness of poetic means is in disharmony with the poverty of meaning; in didactic verses the most emotive images contradict orthodoxy; the very image of the apostle-writer constructed by Simeon represents, in fact, a categorical punisher, morally humiliating and destroying anyone who does not meet the standard of a well-educated, socially correct, useful, and in this sense, a virtuous citizen of the fatherland, approved by the hieromonk. Constructed in various rational ways, the emotiveness of artistic images in the works of Simeon Polotsky is designed to convince the addressee of the unconditional correctness of the writer, which creates conditions for the formation of a new type of reader who perceives an artistic text not as a transmitter of Truth, but as a source of intellectual and aesthetic pleasure.

Internet communication contributes to the satisfaction of a fundamental human need – the exchange of information. Any discourse is always a source of information and a regulator of human needs. One of the discourse types is vlog discourse. A vlog is a video diary where the author shares their views, thoughts and events of their life, thereby turning into action the functions of self-presentation and changing the recipient's conceptual sphere, as well as exerting manip-ulative influence. A vlog has some features of presentation-interactive discourse. The purpose of this study is to analyze the use and functioning of discursive markers in the discourse of a beauty vlog in Russian. According to the results of the analysis the discursive markers can be classified as lexical-semantic presentems, reflecting cognitively mastered and subjectivized concepts of reality that affect the recipient of infor-mation. Discursive markers can belong to the class of presentems of contact, presentems of demonstration, emotive and personal presentems. Some of the discursive markers identified as a result of the analysis do not fit into the existing classifica-tion of presentems, but they can be combined into groups according to the principle of their cognitive-pragmatic func-tioning in discourse. Most of the discursive markers identified in the discourse of the beauty vlog perform the functions of logical organization of thoughts, their correct interpretation by the recipient and interactivising of Internet communi-cation, creating conditions as close as possible to the conditions of face-to-face communication.

The purpose of the article is to consider an important scientific historical and literary issue: the place of A. M. Remizov, an outstanding representative of Russian neorealism, in the structure of the so-called Yaroslavl text. For the first time Remizov's auteur myth is inscribed into the structure of a local text, to which type the Yaroslavl text belongs. This literary phenomenon is presented in the context of studying the author's individuality along the lines common to Russian prose: the enrichment of content, the search for new narrative and artistic forms. The following objectives of the work were also dealt with in the context of contemporary studies of the first half of the XX century Russian literature: to clarify the definitions of the Yaroslavl text and the Remizov myth; to determine the biographical, narrative, historical and literary contours of the latter; to identify and establish the place of archetypes and motives in this myth; and, finally, to incorporate myth into the conceptual space of the Yaroslavl text. The most significant results of the work are the following: the historical-literary and personal-biographical components of the Remizov myth are described; the role of folklore, literary motives and archetypes in the system of motives and images of Remizov's prose is established; the latter are shown in the context of his creative evolution. Remizov's auteur myth is integrated into the historical and literary space of the Yaroslavl text. Some observations are made on the philosophy, aesthetics, and poetics of Remizov's prose and the expressiveness of his writings. Diaries and documents are taken into account as a full-fledged link in the writer's legacy; the attitude to them as secondary, auxiliary material has been overcome. The approaches used in the work led to an original view of the writer’s skills and allowed to break the existing opinions about Remizov's type of artistic thinking. The article evaluates the artistic merits of some of the well-known works in a new way, clarifies the writer's position, shows its connection with mythology and folklore, with the functions of the components of external and internal forms. Remizov's skill is analyzed in the context of neo-mythologism and word-making relevant to the Russian prose of the XX century. Thus, scientific understanding of the complex phenomena in Russian literature of the first third of the XX century have been enriched.

The most significant results of the work are the following: the historical-literary and personal-biographical components of the Remizov myth are described; the role of folklore, literary motives and archetypes in the system of motives and images of Remizov's prose is established; the latter are shown in the context of his creative evolution. Remizov's auteur myth is integrated into the historical and literary space of the Yaroslavl text. Some observations are made on the philosophy, aesthetics, and poetics of Remizov's prose and the expressiveness of his writings. Diaries and documents are taken into account as a full-fledged link in the writer's legacy; the attitude to them as secondary, auxiliary material has been overcome. The approaches used in the work led to an original view of the writer’s skills and allowed to break the existing opinions about Remizov's type of artistic thinking. The article evaluates the artistic merits of some of the well-known works in a new way, clarifies the writer's position, shows its connection with mythology and folklore, with the functions of the components of external and internal forms. Remizov's skill is analyzed in the context of neo-mythologism and word-making relevant to the Russian prose of the XX century. Thus, scientific understanding of the complex phenomena in Russian literature of the first third of the XX century have been enriched.","PeriodicalId":282574,"journal":{"name":"Verhnevolzhski Philological Bulletin","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130099472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
