In Malaysia, many people exhibit sluggish retirement investor decisions despite the presence of investment platforms such as unit trusts, which provide a reliable source for asset accumulation. While prior literature advocates the influences of financial advisors; medical expense risk; and housing on retirement financial planning behaviours, there is a dearth of clarity on the roles these influences play in clarifying the investor behaviour aspect of retirement financial planning. This study is aimed at investigating the importance of these influences on individual retirement investor decisions through an inclusive review of relevant literature. Outcomes of the study mainly inform retirement planning researchers the value in further examining the extended lifecycle theory in the investment domain of retirement financial planning behaviour. The importance of financial advisors, housing, and medical expense risk further prove critical in explaining such behaviours, and accordingly deserves more attention in studies forthcoming. These influences are consequently proposed as factors to be considered in retirement investor decisions believed to stir decisions and in turn, wealth accumulation for late-life.

This research seeks to examine the qualifications of hospital managers in the Eastern Region in Saudi Arabia and to identify the skills and competencies needed by hospital managers. Also, the study attempted to ascertain whether the qualifications of the managers of the hospital affect the performance of the hospital or not. The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach with its quantitative dimension. They study was conducted on 20 hospital managers in 20 governmental hospitals in the Eastern Region in Saudi Arabia. The researcher collected data for this research using a self-administered questionnaire and a performance indicators card. The findings showed that approximately 50% of hospital managers did not receive formal training in health management prior to assuming the post of director of the hospital as their basic qualification in the bachelor was not in the field of health management. Also, the results showed that all the skills and competencies mentioned are important with varying degrees. The most important skills and competencies for managers were the personal or soft skills. The leadership, strategic planning, quality and process improvement skills were second in importance for hospital managers. Furthermore, the majority of the managers indicated that the qualifications of hospital managers affect the performance of the hospital. It is found that there is a positive correlation between the qualifications of the managers and performance of health services in government hospitals.

We are immersed in a changing and highly complex context. Highly volatile, complex and dynamic markets hinder managers’ role in planning and decision-making enormously. There seems to be a consensus that accelerated innovation could provide an answer to the question, what might the next discovery or advance that breaks the rules of our market be? Or in other words, to use an expression common in management speak, what is “the next big thing”? Disruptive management aims to study the causes of business innovation and how it can be systemized in a company, providing clues to achieving excellence in any given market and a methodology that can be learned by managers for application to all companies. This study describes some of the elements for professional and business adaptation to VUCA environments.

This study attempted to identify the impact of internal work environment on the retention of healthcare providers at Turaif General Hospital in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In particular, the study aimed to identify the dimensions of work circumstances, compensation, and relationship with colleagues, professional growth, and the level of healthcare providers’ retention. In order to achieve the study goals, the researcher used the descriptive analytical approach. The researcher used the questionnaire as the study tool. The study population comprised all the healthcare providers at Turaif General Hospital. Questionnaires were distributed to the entire study sample that consisted of 220 individuals. The number of questionnaires valid for study was 183 questionnaires. The research findings were as follows: the participants’ estimate of the work circumstances dimension was high (3.64), the participants’ estimate of the compensation dimension was moderate (3.32), the participants’ estimate of the relationship with colleagues dimension was high (3.62), the participants’ estimate of the professional growth dimension was weak (2.39), and the participants’ estimate of healthcare providers’ retention level was intermediate (2.75). Accordingly, the researcher’s major recommendations are: the need to create the right atmosphere for personnel in hospitals, the interest of the hospital to provide the appropriate conditions for the staff in terms of the physical and moral aspects for building the work adjustment in the staff, and conducting training courses and educational lectures for personnel in hospitals on how to cope with the work pressures.

Due to the pressure of fierce competition, many parents worry about their children being unable to compete with their peers. Besides the regular school class, they have engaged their kids at the cram school in order to strengthen the performance of their academic or creative art, so they might have a better foundation. The cram school business thus becomes a unique and prosperous educational business. Due to the low entry barrier, many companies have joining this business. However, the declining birth rate makes cram school business facing decreasing students number in recent years. Therefore, developing effective practices to improve students retention rate and to improve competitive advantages are becoming critical for managers of cram schools. The first step to change the cram school competition environment from cost-driven to quality-driven is to establish a way to measure the teaching quality — as there is no metrics during the past few decades in this domain. This work proposes a metrics based on the theory developed by Marsh and elaborated their idea to design a teaching quality assessment mechanism. Experts in academia and cram schools were interviewed to revise the proposed framework and the associated weighted values of elements in all dimensions of the framework were further calculated using Analytic Network Process (ANP) process. Questionnaires were distributed to representative teachers and supervisors in the cram school to justify the proposed metrics. The results show that this proposed metrics are valuable to the managers and could be used to improve students retention rate.

Reliable and affordable energy is the key for the socio-economic development in rural and desert communities worldwide. While energy can be used for consumption purposes such as Lighting, Access to Information, Comfort and Entertainment, productive use of renewable energy is the key enabler for SMEs and Economy to grow. The paper examines the complex interactions among Energy, Materials, Water, Food, Building, Employment and Environment. It also discusses the implementation of renewable energy technologies to overcome some of barriers faced by rural villages and desert communities. It shows some of the special applications and approaches used over the past few decades in energy conversion, consumption and conservation to achieve poverty reduction, social justice and sustainable development. Field experiences in Basaisa projects, Egypt showed that open free dialogues with all stakeholders, site-specific education and training, appropriate local financing systems and access to knowledge are key-elements and essential factors for achieving green economy and sustainable community development. The coming decade will see a continued expansion of knowledge about renewable energy resources and its useful applications as systems friendly to the environment and as tools for economic activities, sustainable living and growth in rural and desert communities.

This paper summarizes conceptual aspects of two contemporary global phenomena: “economic growth external constraint” or “balance of payments constraint (BPC)” and “financial flows”, both of them especially studied as structural features of Argentina economy. Our general hypothesis is that external constrain, in its commercial (exports and imports relative income-elasticity) or financial (unsustainable debt, interest payments) versions, means a significant difficulty for some countries’ growth. Besides, financial outflows (purchase of foreign assets by residents, capital flight), offer various additional complexities. Both performs simultaneously as cause and consequence of growth, as circular cumulative causation (CCC).

This article aims to address the FAFAMI Project — Family speaking is familiar — in it’s historicity to the present moment, as a project of teaching, research and extension of the University of São Paulo state (UNESP) in Franca, SP, contributions to the historical moment and to the reality of the families with whom it operates. As this project aims to bring the university closer to the community, trying to themes that are related to the daily life of the families, there was a need to a bibliographical research for reflective notes that contextualize the moment in which we are inserted, the economic, political and social regent system and its implications for society, especially for the working class. And, also, reflect on the role of families in this system, how they are seen, their responsibilities in society, as how they are configured, among other fundamental questions for any analysis of reality.

In this study, we aimed to examine the factors that influence the welfare and decision-making of long-term care workers in Japan. To estimate subjective welfare, we investigated the overall job satisfaction among long-term care workers, and to analyze their decision making, we investigated whether these workers wanted to work or quit their current job. Then, we estimated these dependent variables using the ordinary least squire regression analysis and by using the 11 responses toward job satisfaction as independent variables. According to the results, all factors influenced the well-being of employees; on-the-job training was found to be the most influential factor. Decision making showed less influenced on the workers’ well-being, whereas being worthy of the job was found to be the most influential factor in decision making. Moreover, our results also showed that working hours and leisure time also influence job satisfaction of employees. Therefore, to stabilize labor supply in the Japanese long-term care industry, it is important to improve workers’ on-the-job training at office and companies and increase their leisure time. In addition, it is important that employees actively communicate with each other for better job satisfaction.
