Based on China translation history (since 1949), concerning the works of Jorge Amado, a Brazilian writer, this article is intended not only to analyze the background in which the writer and his works were introduced into China, but also to discuss the ties and relationship between translation and power. The translation of Jorge Amado’s works can be mainly divided into three important periods: the 1950s, the 1980s and the 2010s, mainly showing the manipulation of power over translation. This manipulation presents itself in different forms at different historical periods, therefore producing different translation situations. At the same time, translation also has an impact on power, and in general, under the manipulation of power, translation serves power.

The purpose of this study is to better understand conditions for foreign language (FL) learning in Sweden. Research suggests that foreign language learners benefit from informal target language (TL) exposure and use outside the classroom (e.g., Peters, 2018; Sundqvist, 2009). While studies conducted in a Swedish context show that there are rich opportunities to come in contact with the English language outside the classroom, little is known about the learners’ extramural exposure to and use of other FLs. In analogy with the term ‘Extramural English’ (Sundqvist, 2009), this study explores ‘Extramural French’. The study includes 59 university students enrolled in a French language course. Using the survey method, we investigated the participants’ engagement in Extramural French (frequency and type), and the relationship between language learning motivation, self-assessed proficiency, and frequency of Extramural French. The results showed that about half of the sample engaged in Extramural French on a relatively frequent basis. The most frequent extramural activities included listening to music, watching TV and films, and browsing online. About a third of the sample had regular access to social interaction in French. In addition, language learning motivation increased the likelihood to spend time on Extramural French activities. Overall, the study provides insights into the conditions for FL learning in a Swedish context.

Das Corona-Virus hatte nicht nur auf die Gesundheit, die Politik, die Wirtschaft, die Bildung, die Berufswelt und das gesellschaftliche Leben Einfluss, sondern prägte auch die Sprachen der ganzen Welt, denn die Pandemie führte zur Entstehung neuer Wörter und Begriffe. Im Fokus des Beitrags stehen die im Corona-Diskurs oft gebrauchten und neu geschaffenen Personenbezeichnungen. Es wird analysiert, welche Begriffe im Hinblick auf Menschen neu kreiert wurden, welche Bedeutung sie haben, wie sie konnotiert sind und welche personalen Benennungen eine semantische Verengung bzw. Erweiterung erfahren haben. Es wird dabei gezeigt, dass sich diese Neubildungen nicht nur auf die vom Coronavirus Betroffenen und medizinische Fachkräfte beziehen, die gegen die Auswirkungen des Coronavirus kämpften, sondern auch den Menschen im Alltag erfassen und ihn benennen. Dem Beitrag kann entnommen werden, welche Einstellungen und Verhaltensweisen der Bürger in coronabedingten Personenbezeichnungen widergespiegelt werden und auf welche Lebensbereiche sie sich beziehen.

In this paper, metalinguistic self-reflectory remarks on the German language, made by the author Saša Stanišić in his book Herkunft, are analyzed. After a brief introduction (1.), the state of research on and reception of Herkunft (2.) and a brief section on (auto)biographical writing and migration (3.), the theoretical backdrop, focusing on Roger Sell’s notion on literary pragmatics, is presented (4.). It is subsequently intertwined with Karl Bühler’s Organon Model and Klaus Brinker’s connection of text functions to Searle’s types of illocutions (5.) to form the framework of the analysis. Then, the focus shifts to the analysis itself (6.), which is centred around a chapter titled Bruce Willis spricht Deutsch [Bruce Willis Speaks German]. The article concludes with a summary of the main findings (7.).

La importancia de la perspectiva de los aprendientes en procesos de aprendizaje ya ha sido documentada en diversas investigaciones; sin embargo sigue habiendo desideratas tanto en el campo de la investigación sobre las creencias referidas a las prácticas concretas en el aula y en contextos fuera de las clases universitarias tradicionales, como también sobre la relación entre trasfondo cultural y creencias. En este trabajo se investiga la perspectiva de los participantes en un curso de aprendizaje de idiomas en tándem indagando hasta qué punto creen que las diversas tareas y actividades llevadas a cabo en el aula contribuyen a su aprendizaje. Los datos cuantitativos, recabados a través de un cuestionario, se analizan mediante procesos estadísticos. La información obtenida contribuye a mejorar el entendimiento del aprendizaje en tándem, sirve como base para diseñar nuevos cursos o modificar los existentes y permite revelar diferencias y similitudes entre los colectivos culturales. Los resultados obtenidos indican que el material didáctico usado es, por una parte, una aportación positiva al aprendizaje desde la perspectiva del participante mientras que por otra se revela como apto para cursos de estas características. Asimismo, es evidente el papel que juega el trasfondo cultural en algunos de los ítems aquí investigados.

L’objectif de l’article, situé dans la perspective théorique de la sémantique interprétative française, est d’analyser les réseaux isotopiques dominants dans le recueil de poèmes de Nicolas Bouvier, écrivain, photographe et voyageur suisse. Le texte se compose de deux volets, Le dehors (poèmes de voyage) et Le dedans (poèmes subjectifs), et, comme cette division de sa structure se révèle sémantiquement pertinente, elle est prise en compte dans l’analyse. Celle-ci, centrée sur l’identification et la description d’isotopies sémantiques qui s’affirment dans l’interprétation, admet ainsi plusieurs paliers de généralité : microtextuel (chaque poème considéré comme une unité de sens interprétable à part), intratextuel (celui de chacune des deux parties du volume envisagée séparément), macrotextuel (totalité du recueil) et intertextuel (interne et externe). L’analyse privilégie les niveaux intratextuel et macrotextuel où s’attestent les isotopies les plus importantes, à portée globale, dont les deux principales, à statut de macro-isotopie, sont celles de //centrifuge// et de //centripète//. Les deux forment respectivement des réseaux isotopiques fondés sur la récurrence de sèmes isotopants connexes (comme /voyage/, /extérieur/, /exotique/, /étranger/, /inconnu/ etc. pour //centrifuge// et /intérieur/, /subjectif/, intime/, /émotion/ etc. pour //centripète//) qui se complètent et entrent dans différentes interrelations sur le plan macrotextuel.

By leaning on the analysis of passages from certain literary works by Mia Couto, the present article aims to demonstrate that transcendence is an essential characteristic of the literary process. The word “transcendence” will be understood, in this ambit, as an enquiry that spreads beyond established limits, and the writer will be presented as a figure who goes through three phases of transcendence. In the first place, the writer will overcome the a priori he has been attributing to the world, returning to a puerile attitude of wonderment. This attitude will make reality appear renewed and will unveil aspects once concealed. In the second place, the artist will feel the need to exceed the frontiers of the standard language, in order to better portray one of his empirical experiences. We will not forget to mention that language, even if stretched by the writer, is always a suggestion – and never a faithful portrait – of the singular living of each person. In the third place, the writer will end up transcending himself: not only in the sense that he will transform a piece of his existence into writing – allowing his testimony to go beyond the individual sphere in which it was generated – but also, and above all, in the sense that he will enable others to go beyond the first authorial meanings.

En el artículo se presentan los resultados del estudio sobre el espacio derivativo y semántico de los verbos de percepción visual rusos y españoles. Como objeto del análisis comparativo se presentaron las palabras derivadas de la base de los verbos смотреть / mirar, es decir, su estructura semántica y su función nominativa. La actualidad del estudio se basa en el hecho de que forma parte de uno de los ejes de mejores perspectivas de análisis comparativo, relacionado con la descripción de la capacidad derivativa de las distintas partes de la oración y de los grupos léxicos y semánticos. El trabajo demuestra por primera vez que el proceso de determinación derivativa de los verbos de percepción visual se puede observar mediante el análisis de la semántica de las unidades nominativas de la misma familia de palabras que forman la "familia léxica". El estudio del sistema de familias léxicas, su descripción estructural y semántica y la creación de una teoría general de la familia léxica no pueden realizarse sin un análisis comparativo de estas unidades en idiomas tipológicamente distantes. Los resultados del estudio contribuirán al desarrollo de la derivatología comparativa y de la metodología de análisis interlingüístico de las distintas unidades del sistema derivativo.

A partir do romance Luzia-Homem (1903[2003]), de Domingos Olympio, e da novela Dona Guidinha do Poço (1899[2000]), de Manuel de Oliveira Paiva, e em diálogo com o aporte teórico de Zanello (2018), e as contribuições de Connel (1995), Halberstam (2018) e Kimmel (2016), buscamos entender como a literatura brasileira constrói a masculinidade de mulheres. Nesse sentido, investigamos as virilidades sexual, laborativa e guerreira, assim como buscamos inferir como essas personagens se entendem e são entendidas por narradores e outros personagens. Por fim, argumentamos como a masculinidade feminina ao mesmo tempo em que proporciona maior liberdade às personagens, termina por literariamente também produzir a morte. Assim, a masculinidade de mulheres parece se constituir como o intolerável para a literatura brasileira.
