This research examines students’ understanding of intercultural communication issues through text reading using a short story entitled Channel at the Bottom of the Sea written by a Singaporean author, Stephanie Ye. A readers’ response qualitative method is used in conducting this research which uses a literary text focusing on multicultural themes. By using Martin and Nakayama’s intercultural communication concepts specifically on the four barriers in intercultural communication, this analysis examines 25 students’ response in understanding, reacting, and reflecting intercultural communication cases. In conclusion, it can be seen that 64% students responded well enough in perceiving the issues of intercultural communication in a multicultural context. Key Word: Intercultural Communication, Literary Text, Multiculturalism, Readers’ Response, Stephanie Ye.

Dictation (tīngxiě) is commonly applied to evaluate students' ability to master Chinese characters. However, dictation is challenging to use in online learning because lecturers do not have full control over the conditions around students when dictation is carried out. Students tend to think more about a "strategic position" to putting notes during dictation than preparing and memorizing Chinese characters. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the types of dictation questions in online learning. This study is a classroom action research which consists of 4 stages: planning, implementing, observation, and reflection. Researchers designed four types of dictation questions that applied to the Writing Proficiency course for beginner-level Chinese Language and Culture Study Program students at the University of Al Azhar Indonesia. Research data sources from observations, questionnaires and tests. The results showed that the design of the applied dictation question types effectively reduced the opportunity for students to cheat during dictation. In addition, this dictation method is also effective for practising Chinese writing skills and students' mastery of Chinese strokes and writing order.Keywords - Chinese character; dictation; tingxie; online learning; Chinese language.

The Chinese are a minority in Indonesia, but there are still a lot of Chinese cultures that are still used in various Chinese culture celebrations, for example in weddings. Chinese marriage has a lot of step by step processions, one of which is the culture of eating “ronde”. The purpose of this research is to study about the culture of eating “ronde” in Chinese marriage in Solo City. This research will discuss about the meaning and purpose of this tradition, because at this time few Chinese couple know the tradition of eating “ronde” at their weddings. This journal uses qualitative research methods and using interview to collect data. The tradition of eating “ronde” is believed to strengthen the relationship between both family. This concept is symbolized by ronde’s round and sticky surface that’s believed to strengthen family’s relationship, but people’s understanding of this culture still varies from one person to another. This is caused by cultural shift that happens in our society, so that tradition of eating “ronde” began to disappear in Chinese culture. Hopefully the results of this research can be used as a medium to introduce Chinese culture and references for similar research.Keywords - Chinese ethnic, Marriage, Ronde, Solo City.

This research is a translation-studies one discussing translation techniques used in Indonesian subtitle for English utterances and Indonesian utterances consisting English either words or expressions in the dialog of Aruna dan Lidahnya (2018) film. Analysis is done for utterances consisting code-switching and code-mixing. Methods used are descriptive-qualitative and library ones. Data are collected with content-analysis technique. Source text (ST) data are classified using code-switching and code-mixing classification. Target text (TT) data are classified using translation techniques by Molina and Albir (2002). Out of 72 data of bilingualism in use, 61.6% are code-mixing while 38.9% are code switching. Yet out of 37 utterances translated into Indonesian subtitle, 54.05% are code-switching while 45.95% are code-mixing. Out of 18 translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir (2002), only 11 techniques used. Established equivalent is the most frequent techniques used, i.e. 23,1% out of 39 data in TT. The result also shows that all 11 translation techniques used are fit with the principle of subtitling according to Ho (2015). The Merdeka Learning-Independence Campus Program in Indonesian is abbreviated as MBKM. MBKM, which was initiated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia has been running for one year. The aim is to increase the competency of graduates so that they are better prepared to respond to the needs of the times. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing more accurately the impact of holding the MBKM program on students at the Faculty of Law, University of Al Azhar Indonesia. The research method used was descriptive statistics and Spearman’s coefficient by taking a sample of 340 students from a total population of 600 students. The sampling technique was carried out by using random sampling, i.e., taking samples from members of the entire population at random, without regard to the existing strata in the population. The results of this study show that, first, students interest in participating in the MBKM program is in line with their level of knowledge of MBKM. After conducting a survey of 340 students out of 600, it was found that 93 students were interested in joining the MBKM program. Second, the small number of students participating in MBKM (93 students) was caused by technical selection factors, which limited the MBKM quota. Third, the problems faced by blended students are not resolved, causing a small number of blended students to join MBKM Keywords – MBKM, FH UAI, Students

The environment is an important element in the period of early childhood, a sensitive period where children are ready to respond to all stimuli from the environment. The play environment is a very meaningful resource for facilitating children's play activities. This study aims to determine the playing tools used by toddlers, either locomotor, nonlocomotor, and manipulative, and to identify aspects that are generally stimulated by families at toddler age. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with 106 families in Jabodetabek as respondents and the research lasted for 9 months, June 2019- January 2020. The data collection tool used was questionnaire to gather information about the respondent family environment. The data is then processed and analyzed using: (a)Descriptive Statistical Analysis: questionnaire filled by respondents are analyzed for data trends, and (b)Qualitative Analysis: results of descriptive statistical analysis are explained qualitatively through the description of observations and interviews on respondents. The results showed that: 66.04 % toddlers live in nuclear families and 33.96% within extended families. Facilitation from the play environment for toddlers to strengthen the feelings of self, independent activity, and cooperation is quite high, but the possibility for toddlers to play fantasy is quite low. Aspects of development generally stimulated by families at toddler age are more nonlocomotor, and acceleration of technological development in developing children's play has widened the gap on children's playing experiences in familiesKeywords - Toddler, Play environment, Family.

The results showed that: 66.04 % toddlers live in nuclear families and 33.96% within extended families. Facilitation from the play environment for toddlers to strengthen the feelings of self, independent activity, and cooperation is quite high, but the possibility for toddlers to play fantasy is quite low. Aspects of development generally stimulated by families at toddler age are more nonlocomotor, and acceleration of technological development in developing children's play has widened the gap on children's playing experiences in familiesKeywords - Toddler, Play environment, Family.","PeriodicalId":435638,"journal":{"name":"JURNAL Al-AZHAR INDONESIA SERI HUMANIORA","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132837309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
