The paper examined institutional research practices that promote academics’ motivation to engage in writing and publication. The idea was prompted by enormous effort and financial support UMI has committed on various research and publication-related programs and activities, including; annual research cluster grants, conference funding, graduate supervision, and guest scholars that are periodically engaged to facilitate in the areas of; research, supervision, scholarly writing, publication, grant proposal writing, etc. Every year (save for the pandemic period), the institute disburses funds to academics that respond to research grant calls in a timely fashion. Similarly, there were newly graduate doctoral candidates, still with fresh and novel publishable research ideas. It was revealed that academics are recognized for graduate supervision to completion, instead of co-publication efforts. The paper concludes that the lack of “price-tags” for research uptake, and the current accounting system that focuses on the usage of funds, instead of the outcomes has continued to diminish academics motivation to publish. Similarly, the practice to settle for the “raw research reports” instead of publications as a way of accountability had affected academics’ desire to publish. Further, collegial cooperation had affected implementation of personnel decisions related to research. Lastly, the delayed performance feedback on individual publication statuses affected their publication acumen. The paper recommends that institutions need to devise accountability systems for funded research activities as a way of sustaining academics’ research passion and motivation. Similarly, the institution should use the detailed “quarterly performance output reports” to regularly update members on their research uptake situation, other than waiting for the expiry of the five-year employment contract.

The author has created two gymnastic exercises on parallel bars on the basis of objective logical analysis. One of them (bent with side straddleturn and twist on 90 degrees to longitudinal angle swing) is performed by the author and some other gymnastics. The next one—the same with open legs is performed only by the author (1989), which makes the article innovative activity. By this moment no other gymnast has performed the exercise. The significance of the physical and the technical as well as the psychological preparation for successful learning of new and difficult gymnastic exercises is underlined.

This study investigated scholarly research outputs and vulnerability of Nigerian lecturers to predatory journals. Five objectives were formulated to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted using the online Google Form to collect data/responses from lecturers across board in Nigeria. The population of the study comprised lecturers in Nigeria. The sampling technique used for the study was the total enumeration sampling technique (107) as the whole responses were analysed using frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation for easy appreciation and comprehension, with the aid of SPSS Version 23. It was found out that: The research outputs by Nigerian lecturers appear to be a little bit low, Nigerian lecturers obviously know the reputable journals that are available, many Nigerian authors and writers do not publish in high reputable journals, some of the challenges recorded are high cost/finance, problem of delayed review process, high rejection rate by reputable journal and rigorous online submission process. Also, the idea of compulsorily publishing in high impact journals rather than focus on the quality of the research output, before promoting lecturers is misplaced and should be reviewed. Recommendations were made in line with the findings of the study.

In recent years, more and more attention has been paid to the mental health of Chinese college students. The mental health and happiness of college students have become the focus of the government, schools and society. As a special group of society, college students are in the period of personality improvement and development, and their psychological endurance and adjustment ability is relatively weak. Their high self-positioning makes their desire for success very strong. When faced with economic, academic, employment, emotional and other aspects of pressure, often due to improper handling of psychological problems. With the continuous development of psychology, “overall happiness” has gradually become an important comprehensive psychological index to measure people’s mental health. The intervention of mental health education can significantly improve the level of college students’ mental health and subjective well-being. The intervention of mental health education should become an important content and approach of college students’ mental health education.

The survey found that there is a shortage of red education and extracurricular reading among Chinese primary school students, who play video games and watch cartoons more than watch red inspirational books and movies outside of class, and lack ambitious ideals and learning motivation. To improve this situation, the research group built a digital platform for red education for Chinese children and youth and conducted a one-semester after-school reading comparison experiment among 427 elementary school students in Hangzhou LX Primary School. The post-experimental measurement found that the students in the experimental group enjoyed the “read red books + watch red movies” activity for one hour a day, and their reading time and quantity of red books/films increased significantly, their time spent playing video games and watching cartoons decreased by 46% per day, and their knowledge of Chinese revolutionary history and socialist core values, patriotic consciousness, ideal beliefs, and enthusiasm for learning also improved. Their knowledge of Chinese revolutionary history and core socialist values, patriotic consciousness, ideal beliefs, and enthusiasm for learning have also been greatly improved, and their total scores in the final exams of four courses, namely Chinese, mathematics, moral character, and English, have increased by 12% compared with those before the experiment. In contrast, in the control group, which did not carry out the reading activity and maintained the original learning and living condition, the above post-test indicators did not change significantly from the pre-test. Therefore, the experiment shows that this digital reading model has a positive effect on the cultivation of qualified communist successors, and provides experience and reference for the cultivation and education of Chinese elementary school students.

The expansion of the higher education industry has caused a tremendous increase in the number and type of colleges, polytechnics and universities offering similar academic programmes in Ghana. As a consequence, the competition in the higher education industry makes it critical for education leadership and managers to deploy strategies that would influence students’ choice of a higher education institution and programme selection. The paper is an exploratory study designed to identify the important factors that influence students’ choice of university and particularly the programme. Data was collected through telephone interviews with students who were offered admissions to pursue agricultural related courses in the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Sciences of the University for Development Studies. About 320 students were randomly selected from the 1280 students offered admission to the faculty in the 2021/20222 Academic Year. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and presented in graphs and tables. The study found that 53.75% of the respondents declined their admission to offer Agriculture related programs because that was not their choice of programme. It further identified that most of those who declined the offer had applied for health related programmes where they were sure after completion could easily be employed. The study therefore, recommends a programme to educate prospective students on the job prospects, opportunities and benefits of pursuing agricultural related programmes. Government should also put in place measures to attract the graduate youth into Agricultural entrepreneurship.

Vocabulary acquisition is an important aspect of second language learning. It aids communication and comprehension. Teachers are thus expected to invent very effective means of teaching this vital component to the learners. The purpose of this study was therefore to investigate the possible effect of using web-based activities to teach vocabulary on the vocabulary acquisition performance of the students. Forty pupils were selected for the study and were exposed to web-activities. The study made use of pre and posttests to examine whether there were any changes in the performance of the students. It was found out the used of web-based activities really influenced their performance as all the respondents had scores higher than in the pretest situation. It could then be held that it is imperative that teachers of English harness all creative ways of ensuring that students are assisted to learn effectively and one of such ways is employing technology.

Results: The mean score of social anxiety of secondary vocational students was 45.25±9.32. The gender difference of social anxiety in secondary vocational students was significant (P<0.001). There was no significant difference in social anxiety of secondary vocational students in grade (P>0.05); The social anxiety of secondary vocational students was significantly different in household registration type (P<0.001); There was no significant difference in social anxiety between only children and non-only children (P>0.05). The difference of social anxiety in family income of secondary vocational students was very significant (P<0.001). Conclusion: The level of social anxiety of secondary vocational students is above the middle level. From the perspective of gender variables, there is a significant difference in the level of social anxiety between male and female students, and the level of social anxiety of male students is significantly lower than that of female students. In terms of grade variables, there was no significant difference in social anxiety in grade variables. From the perspective of the variable of residence type, social anxiety is significantly different between rural students and urban students. The level of social anxiety of rural students is higher than that of urban students. There is no significant difference between only-child and non-only-child in social anxiety. From the perspective of family income level, social anxiety is significantly different among different income families. Students from families with wages higher than the average social level had the lowest level of social anxiety, students from families with wages comparable to the average social level had higher levels of social anxiety, and students from families with wages lower than the average social level had the highest level of social anxiety.
