Evaluation of forest management plans in conjunction with the cadastral information: The case of Agva and Beykoz, Istanbul Abstract: Determination of land ownership and boundaries is one of the most important purposes of the urban and rural land laws. There can be some boundary problems while preparing forestry area of any urban area when there is not consistency between the borders constructed by different state organizations like land cadastre, forest cadastre and forest management and planning teams. This study aims to illustrate these conflicts in forestry applications process of two different areas (Agva and Beykoz) having different characteristics. The study was carried out in Agva and Beykoz districts in the province of Istanbul and focused on the integration in the land and forest cadastral systems. The Beykoz and Agva Forest Planning Units have different characteristics in terms of population (urban and rural) and social impacts. Analyses of the data obtained from the field studies which it was utilized for the investigation of the data obtained from various base maps, were carried out using GIS software. Many inhabitants of the villages in the Agva Planning Unit had migrated from the district. Thus, in accordance with Boundary Law number of 6831 part of 2/B some parcels of villages in Agva were determined to be acting forest and were reassigned as forest land. In Beykoz, however, areas of this nature were few and the destruction of the forests was great. The spatial analysis of the study made it possible to remove discrepancies occurring in the cadastral situation by preparing forest management plans. Consequently, if land cadastre and forest cadastre units carry out work in coordination to determine the cadastral situation, a basis for forest management plans can be established and cadastral problems greatly reduced. Govde analizi, tek agacin gecmis donemlerdeki artim ve buyume verilerini ayrintili bir sekilde degerlendiren ve degisik ormancilik bilim dallarinda sikca kullanilan bir yontemdir. Bu nedenle govde analizinin kisa surede ve etkin bir sekilde yapilmasi icin bu calisma kapsaminda bir bilgisayar programi gelistirilmistir. Govde analizi ham verilerini sayisal ve grafik olarak degerlendirmek icin gelistirilen bu bilgisayar yazilimi, gunumuzde oldukca yaygin kullanilan MS Excel 2013 programinin Visual Basic For Application ozelliginden yararlanilarak makro olarak programlanmistir. Gelistirilen bu programda degisik yaslardaki (periyotlardaki) boy degerlerinin hesaplanmasi icin iki farkli yaklasimla boylanma modeli olusturulmakta, istenen donem (periyot) uzunluklarina gore, bolumleme yontemine gore tek agacin hacmi, kesit yuzeyleri, cap, boy ve hacim artimlari ile hacim artim yuzdeleri ve gogus boyu govde sekil katsayilari hesaplanmaktadir. Yigilca Orman Isletmesinin heyelan duyarlilik haritasi CBS-tabanli FuzzyCell yazilimi kullanilarak bulanik kural tabanli olarak olusturulmustur. 315 adet heyelan iceren envanter haritasi alanda daha once yazarlar tarafindan uretilen envanterin arazi calismalari ile guncellenmis seklidir. Alanda daha once yazarlar tarafindan uretilen heyelan duyarlilik haritasina bagli olarak karsilastirma yapabilmek amaciyla, yine 8 adet parametre harita secilmis ve daha sonra heyelan duyarlilik haritalama icin bulaniklastirilmistir: arazi kullanimi, litoloji, yukselti, egim, baki, yola uzaklik, dereye uzaklik ve plan egrisellik. Bulanik cikarim sistemi olarak Mamdani modeli secilmistir. Bulanik kurallarin tanimlanmasindan sonra modelin durulastirmasi icin Alan Merkezi metodu uygulanmistir. Daha sonra elde edilen bulanik duyarlilik haritasi 0-1 araliginda normallestirilmis ve cok dusuk, dusuk, orta, yuksek ve cok yuksek olmak uzere bes farkli duyarlilik sinifina ayrilmistir. Secilen 8 parametre haritasina bagli olarak gelistirilen modele gore, Yigilca Orman Isletmesinde heyelan duyarliligi 0.703 EAA (Egri Altindaki Alan) degeri ile 32 ila 67 (ki 1-100 araligindadir) duyarliliklari arasinda belirlenmistir. Siniflandirilan heyelan duyarlilik haritasina gore Yigilca Orman Isletmesinin %32.84’u yuksek ve cok yuksek duyarlilik siniflarinda iken, alanin %29.59’u dusuk ve cok dusuk duyarlilik siniflarinda, geriye kalan ise orta duyarlilik sinifinda yer almaktadir. Alanda daha once lojistik regresyon (LR) metodu ile uretilen heyelan duyarlilik haritasi ile karsilastirildiginda duyarlilik siniflarinin dagiliminda onemli farklilik gozlenmektedir. Bu bulanik kural tabanli modelin tamamiyla parametrelerin nasil siniflandirildigi ve bulaniklastirildiginin yani sira kural tabanin ne kadar dogru olusturulduguna baglidir. Ancak yine de bulanik kural tabani ile modelleme CBS entegre calismalarda oldukca esnek muhakeme imkani ve boylece belirlilik ve kesinlik olmamasi durumunun da dikkate alinmasina imkan saglamaktadir.

Pollen morphology of Cornus mas L. and Cornus sanguinea L. Abstract: The pollen morphology of 2 species of the genus Cornus L. distributed in Turkey was studied with light and scanning electron microscope. The pollen of genus Cornus is 3-colporate. Pollen of the Cornus mas is spheroidal and Cornus sanguinea is subprolate. Size varies of Cornus mas pollen with the polar axis ranging from 21.54 to 27.36 μm and equatorial axis from 21.31 to 26.72 μm. Size varies of Cornus sanguinea pollen with polar axis ranging from 54.41 to 71.69 μm and equatorial axis from 46.03 to 63.42 μm. The equatorial outline of Cornus mas pollen is triangular and Cornus sanguinea pollen is circular. The results showed that pollen of these two species can easily be identified as species level. Distribution and habitat preference of roe deer ( Capreolus capreolus L.) in Duzce Province of Turkey Abstract: The roe deer is an important game animal in Turkey. The aim of the current study was to determine the likely distribution area and habitat preferences of roe deer (Capreolus capreolus (L., 1758)) in Duzce Province. The species was observed by wildlife camera traps and direct or indirect observation methods in different habitats in a total of 75 sampling sites during the period between 2013 and 2015. Roe deer avoid human contact. The species are found mostly (79%) in fir and beech forests, preferably those with a closed canopy cover but without dense understory. The numbers of individual of male are higher than the female. They are most often (74%) observed during feeding, with activity peaking at dawn and dusk. The roe deer has a wide distribution range in Turkey and has great potential as a game animal. However, its prevalence is not sufficient in all regions. Quantum analysis for biological communities using presence data Abstract: The concepts, quantities and the explanations, found in books dealing with quantum ecology (Orloci 2013-2015) have a profound potential to serve the assessments of biological community data from an ecological point of view. However, the data matrices subjected to quantum analysis are quantitative and vegetation related. Therefore, the answer to the following question has remained unresolved: Is it possible to calculate energy-based entropy nH, and the related H and instability %, based on presence data from biological communities at large? The present study was motivated to find a reasonable way for adaptation of presence community data to quantum analysis. For this, the T and n terms, by which nH is parameterized, are changed to Tt and n´t terms by making the Tt values a function of taxonomic distance Tt and setting n´t equal to (n2 − n)/ 2. Reasonable results were obtained on both the stand (complex) and the metacommunity levels. Since the results are based on the transformations of artificial data, confirmation of the approach is required in further studies using both presence and quantitative data sets from real communities. Effect of rotational grazing on some soil properties in Duzce of Turkey Abstract: Pastures, one of the four important vegetation types in the world, have great potential not only in terms of forage production for animals, but also in terms of biological diversity. Yet, the pressure of continuous and overgrazing on pastures in Turkey affects both vegetation and soil negatively. Overgrazing leads to soil compaction, thus, soil permeability is influenced in a negative way. It is possible to remove these negative influences via amendment methods or reorganizing grazing. In this study, it was researched how short duration rotational grazing influenced some soil properties in a pasture where uncontrolled heavy grazing for many years in Duzce. As a result of the study, soil properties affected by rotational grazing at most were permeability and bulk density. While the value of bulk density increased from 1.19 gr cm-3 to 1.30 gr cm-3 in the continuous grazing pastures, it decreased from 1.38 gr cm-3 to 1.26 gr cm-3 in the rotational grazing pastures. It was demonstrated in the study that organizing grazing systems in the pastures can improve soil permeability and bulk density to a great extent. Asiri otlatmayla birlikte toprak sikismasi olmakta ve topraklarin su gecirme ozelligi olumsuz etkilenmektedir. Bu olumsuz etkiler mera alanlarinda uygulanacak islah yontemleri veya otlatmanin duzenlemesi ile duzeltilebilmektedir. Bu calismada da Duzce ilinde uzun yillar kontrolsuz bir sekilde agir otlatma yapilan bir mera alaninda kisa sureli munavebeli otlatmanin bazi toprak ozellikleri uzerine etkisi arastirilmistir. Arastirma sonucunda munavebeli otlatmadan en fazla ve hizli etkilenen toprak ozellikleri gecirgenlik ve hacim agirligi olmustur. Nitekim hacim agirligi degeri 3 yilin sonunda surekli otlatilan alanda 1,19 gr cm-3 den 1,30 gr cm-3 degerine cikarken; munavebeli otlatma yapilan alanlarda 1,38 gr cm-3 den 1,26 gr cm-3 duzeyine dusmustur. Arastirma mera alaninda otlatmanin duzenlenmesi ile topraklarin gecirgenlik ve hacim agirligi ozelliklerinde onemli iyilesmelerin olabilecegini ortaya koymustur. While the value of bulk density increased from 1.19 gr cm-3 to 1.30 gr cm-3 in the continuous grazing pastures, it decreased from 1.38 gr cm-3 to 1.26 gr cm-3 in the rotational grazing pastures. It was demonstrated in the study that organizing grazing systems in the pastures can improve soil permeability and bulk density to a great extent. Ancak ulkemizde mera alanlari uzerindeki duzensiz ve asiri otlatma baskisi gerek bitki ortusu gerekse toprak uzerinde olumsuz etkiler olusturmaktadir. Asiri otlatmayla birlikte toprak sikismasi olmakta ve topraklarin su gecirme ozelligi olumsuz etkilenmektedir. Bu olumsuz etkiler mera alanlarinda uygulanacak islah yontemleri veya otlatmanin duzenlemesi ile duzeltilebilmektedir. Bu calismada da Duzce ilinde uzun yillar kontrolsuz bir sekilde agir otlatma yapilan bir mera alaninda kisa sureli munavebeli otlatmanin bazi toprak ozellikleri uzerine etkisi arastirilmistir. Arastirma sonucunda munavebeli otlatmadan en fazla ve hizli etkilenen toprak ozellikleri gecirgenlik ve hacim agirligi olmustur. Nitekim hacim agirligi degeri 3 yilin sonunda surekli otlatilan alanda 1,19 gr cm-3 den 1,30 gr cm-3 degerine cikarken; munavebeli otlatma yapilan alanlarda 1,38 gr cm-3 den 1,26 gr cm-3 duzeyine dusmustur. Arastirma mera alaninda otlatmanin duzenlenmesi ile topraklarin gecirgenlik ve hacim agirligi ozelliklerinde onemli iyilesmelerin olabilecegini ortaya koymustur. Changes and trends of seasonal total rainfall in the province of Istanbul, Turkey Abstract: Several studies revealed that climate change can affect local and regional precipitation patterns. Long term trends and cycles in precipitation is important for the health of ecosystems in the region. The possible impacts in near future can affect the forest and water resources of Istanbul. In this study, daily, monthly, seasonal and annual precipitation analyses for the different meteorology stations were examined for the Istanbul province. Northern and southern different climatic conditions of Istanbul have been effective selection of the station. The Mann-Kendall test results showed that there is positive statistically significant trend in some meteorology stations. A Perspective on various alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) application areas Abstract: Alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) is a common sizing agent, which is suitable for any kind of cellulose and its derivatives. To control of the penetration of liquids from paper surface is important by terms of printability and protecting the products from liquids. AKD sizing applications are becoming increasingly important in parallel with technologic development of industrial applications. It is necessary to examine the present state of the paper industry and the traditional practices in order to successful sizing. Pulp and paper industry, still major practitioner of the AKD, has the proper experience about AKD production and application. Besides that, there is growing interest about AKD applications certain area of engineering. This review is a brief outline showing experiments on AKD from researchers.
