Introduction: Academic social participation addresses student engagement behaviors that involve social interactions with peers and teachers. Objective: Perceived teacher behavior, task value, academic self-efficacy, class enjoyment and shame’s role in predicting academic social participation was analyzed. Method: Psychology students from a large national university completed self-report questionnaires assessing the model variables. A proposed model was evaluated by path analysis. Results: Model showed good fit to the data, explaining 31% of variance. Positive influences were detected of perceived teacher behavior on task value (β = 0.42), academic self-efficacy (β = 0.19), and class enjoyment (β = 0.24); of task value on class enjoyment (β = 0.52); and of class enjoyment on academic social participation (β = 0.44). Academic self-efficacy negatively affected class shame (β = -0.38), while class shame (β = -0.44) and task value (β = -0.24) showed a negative influence on academic social participation. Conclusion: Utility of modifying teacher behavior and motivation as a means to affect emotion was demonstrated. Class enjoyment and shame were the stronger predictors of academic social participation. Individual variables’ importance in moderating contextual influence on engagement was suggested.

Backgorund: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is characterized by uncertain prognosis, severe symptoms and a negative impact on quality of life (QOL) of patients. Purpose: The aim of this review is to generate a comprehensive approach in order to improve psychological intervention in these patients. Methods: A qualitative review of articles indexed in MEDLINE, PsycINFO and SCOPUS up to July 2015 was conducted. Articles reporting SLE, coping strategies and QOL were included. Results: Twenty-four studies were found, covering different research designs, forms of assessment and intervention. Coping strategies and their relationship with QOL were analyzed in order to describe the best strategies for dealing with SLE. Conclusions: There are no adaptive or maladaptive strategies, and the suitability of these depends on the situation that a patient could sustain; nevertheless, an active coping style seems to help preserve the QOL. The main goal of psychological intervention should be diversify and expand the number of coping strategies used by patients.

Introduccion: el estres es una problematica que tambien alcanza a los ninos. Se manifiesta en ellos a traves de un conjunto de reacciones, tanto a nivel biologico como psicologico, ante situaciones que sienten incontrolables. En la infancia, los ninos tienen que poner en practica distintas estrategias de afrontamiento y esfuerzos cognitivos-comportamentales, con el fin de sobrellevar los cambios propios de la etapa. Objetivos: indagar las estrategias de afrontamiento utilizadas por un grupo de ninos de ambos sexos, de la ciudad de San Luis, Argentina, asi como detectar relaciones entre las estrategias de afrontamiento, el sexo y el nivel de estres vivenciado. Metodologia: la muestra fue no probabilistica-intencional conformada por 106 ninos (entre los 8 y 12 anos), los cuales concurrian a dos establecimientos educativos de la ciudad. Se aplicaron el Inventario Infantil de Estresores Cotidianos, y el Cuestionario de Estrategias Situacionales de Afrontamiento en ninos y ninas. Resultados y discusion: las estrategias de afrontamiento mas utilizadas fueron las de tipo activas (tales como busqueda de informacion y de apoyo) y emocionales para reducir el estres. Se encontraron diferencias en la utilizacion de estrategias de afrontamiento, en relacion con el sexo y a nivel de estres vivenciado por los ninos.

Proposito: reflexionar y postular conceptos, categorias y estrategias para el desarrollo de la conducta pacifica, especialmente en ninos y jovenes, tanto en la educacion como en la investigacion, desde la psicologia positiva, en cuanto a conductas saludables que promoveran una nueva cultura de paz. Tema: la importancia de la teoria del aprendizaje social de Albert Bandura y los aportes recientes de Richard Tremblay sobre el aprendizaje de la conducta violenta y pacifica en la primera infancia; tambien la reflexion sobre la educabilidad de la conducta pacifica prosocial desde una postura critica, que cuestiona la aprobacion social de la violencia por el statu quo. Desarrollo: la conducta violenta de uno o varios individuos, orientada a hacer dano a otras personas, es una preocupacion constante en las ciencias sociales y humanas, asi como en el individuo, la sociedad y el Estado. Hasta la fecha, las investigaciones acerca de los factores causales y el control y manejo de sus consecuencias se han orientado a sancionar, castigar e impedir la conducta violenta, sin preocuparse por descubrir y moldear aquella conducta que los seres humanos necesitan para vivir como tales, en sana convivencia, denominada aqui “conducta pacifica”, comportamiento opuesto a la conducta violenta. Conclusiones: el aprendizaje de la conducta pacifica tendria como consecuencia la sana convivencia social y el desarrollo humano saludable, dialogante y solidario, de manera que esto lleve al individuo a practicar relaciones interpersonales y sociales saludables y felices, como recursos que le dan sentido a la vida humana en todas sus actividades.

Introduction: Social skills are important for adaptation by individuals to different social contexts. It can be difficult for adolescents to establish and maintain competent social interactions due to changes stemming from their development. Objective: To analyze the behavioral effects of a social skills program among young people 14 to 18 years of age in a situation of vulnerability, at the Fundacion Club Campestre de Bucaramanga (country club). Methodology: To measure social skills, the Social Skills Scale (Escala de Habilidades Sociales (EHS)), created in 2000 by Elena Gismero at the Universidad Pontificia de Madrid, was used. It is a 33 item questionnaire that explores the individual conduct of the subject in specific situations and assesses the extent to which social skills modulate these attitudes. 50 students from the Fundacion Club Campestre took part and were divided into two groups: experimental and control. The working mythology was the application of pre-tests to measure skills, continued with application of the program and ended with the post-test to analyze the results. Results: The program generated behavioral effects among the young people, in other words, socially skillful conducts in the young people and strengthening of their repertoire of social skills, with improvement in coexistence in their social context, fewer aggressive responses and more assertive response schemes. Conclusion: The results suggest that social skills programs are useful tools for intervention among young people with difficulties developing such skills.

Introduction: Research has shown that the number of children and adolescents experiencing emotional difficulties such as anxiety is escalating, especially for those groups at risk. Living in an orphanage has been considered a risk factor for delays in an individuals’ social, emotional and behavioral development. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Spanish version of the FRIENDS program, a CBT-based resilience program, with 57 girls from low socioeconomic status (SES) background that were living in an orphanage. Method: Participants received the program for 10 consecutive weeks, and pre- and post-test measures were collected. Measures evaluated participants’ anxiety symptoms, level of self-concept, hope, coping skills, and psychosocial difficulties. Social validity was also assessed. Results: Results showed positive changes, including a decrease in anxiety symptoms and psychosocial difficulties, as well as an increase in their proactive coping skills. Several subscales and items of the self-concept and hope outcome measures also reported statistically significant improvements. Conclusions: Participants and parents/caregivers reported that the program was both enjoyable and useful. Implications of the findings and directions for further research are discussed.

La referencia a sucesos relacionados con la inseguridad es habitual en los medios de comunicacion y refleja la situacion de incertidumbre con la que vive la poblacion cotidianamente. Objetivo: se plantea el analisis de la representacion social de la inseguridad. En este sentido, se pretende conocer como los jovenes conciben y explican este objeto social. Metodologia: mediante tecnicas cualitativas, se realizo la recogida de informacion. En el estudio, participaron 271 jovenes universitarios (67% mujeres y 33% hombres), con una media de 21,32 anos (DT: 2,23). Resultados: el analisis del nucleo central y del sistema periferico revelo que los jovenes perciben un contexto inseguro caracterizado por la incertidumbre y el miedo de salir a lugares publicos o zonas especificas. Este sentimiento de inseguridad se ve reforzado por la falta de mecanismos que regulen este clima negativo, tal como lo es la ineficiente estructura en las instituciones judiciales. En relacion con las diferencias de genero, se evidencio que las mujeres reportan tener mayor miedo y vulnerabilidad en su vida cotidiana, a diferencia de los hombres. Conclusiones: en Ambato se han desarrollado estrategias a fin de reducir la inseguridad, sin embargo, estos mecanismos no han ayudado a disminuir la percepcion de miedo establecido en el contexto.

Proposito: abordar la cuestion de la burocracia, sus efectos subjetivos y su relacion funcional y estructural con determinadas practicas sociales e institucionales, tema en general tratado de forma fragmentada desde diferentes areas de conocimiento. Tema: el analisis de la pelicula La vida de los otros permite realizar una lectura que vincule este fenomeno con formas de produccion de tipos particulares de subjetividad, caracterizadas fundamentalmente por su alienacion con relacion a las consecuencias y alcances de su praxis. Al mismo tiempo, es posible reflexionar sobre las formas en que las propias practicas de los sujetos permiten nuevos espacios de produccion de sentidos subjetivos. Desarrollo: las nociones de sentido subjetivo, subjetividad y subjetividad social desarrolladas por Fernando Gonzalez-Rey constituyen operadores teoricos que permiten esta construccion interpretativa, tomando en consideracion para este analisis las interacciones sucedidas entre los protagonistas de la pelicula. Conclusiones: el analisis de la pelicula muestra los condicionamientos sociales e individuales para la produccion de nuevos sentidos subjetivos por parte de los protagonistas, asi como permite reflexionar sobre la relacion entre practicas institucionales burocraticas y formas de produccion de subjetividad.

Introduction: Neuroscience of personality is an area of study whose origins are relatively recent. Objective: The study of the neurobiological and neuropsychological fundamentals of personality. Methodology: This is a narrative review article that presents and discusses some, perhaps the majority, of the research in this field. The structure of the article is based on the five main personality factors. For each factor (neuroticism, extroversion, openness, friendliness and responsibility) the existing literature is reviewed and discussed in relation to the neuropsychological correlates in the executive function, memory and intelligence. Results: Because this is a recent field of study and due to the type of review carried out, it was not possible to reach a precise conclusion; in other words, in the current state-of-the-art, it cannot be determined how the factors and facets of personality correlate with the executive function, intelligence and memory. Conclusion: In general terms, it may be affirmed that there is a different neuropsychological profile for each factor.

Proposito: el articulo tiene por objetivo compartir parte de la experiencia de Chile con relacion a la busqueda y construccion de ambientes de calidad que favorezcan el aprendizaje y desarrollo de los ninos entre cero y seis anos. Tema: la promocion de ambientes de calidad, desde la intencionalidad pedagogica del educador, al organizar el tiempo, el espacio y las interacciones, promoviendo el aprendizaje de los ninos y las ninas. Desarrollo: se trata de una exposicion principalmente descriptiva del contexto chileno y de los resultados obtenidos frente a las evaluaciones disponibles a partir de la aplicacion de dos instrumentos: ECERS-R e ITERS-R, y CLASS, en el marco de la implementacion de programas que buscan mejorar la calidad, tales como Quik, y Un Buen Comienzo de la Fundacion Oportunidad. Conclusiones: a la luz de estos resultados, se releva la importancia del tema y se realiza un analisis de las politicas publicas emergentes y los desafios o las tensiones que siguen presentes. Entre ellas, se destaca la tension entre calidad y cobertura, asi como la problematica de las desconfianzas entre los actores involucrados frente al significado y a la realidad de una educacion de calidad.
