We numerically demonstrate the generation of a high-repetition-rate ultrashort pulse train in a 5-cm-long tapered silicon waveguide. Pulse width of a single pulse in the pulse train is compressed from 1.5625 ps to 102.4 fs.

Black Box Coupled Mode Theory is an electromagnetic resonator analysis and design tool based on the theory of quasinormal modes. Alongside its rigorous formulation, the theory casts a novel insight into electromagnetic resonators' operation principles.

CMOS cameras are very appealing for fluorescence microscopy but they suffer from high readout noise and fixed-pattern noise. We propose a non-iterative, fast, and unsupervised algorithm that erases camera-related noise without losing the quantitative information of fluorescence signal. Finally, we demonstrate the performance of the algorithm using different sensors, from low-cost CMOS chips to high-end sCMOS cameras.

We propose a graphene-based multi-wavelength source for WDM-PON applications. The transmission performance is evaluated in comparison with a Flat Combs Generator based on a Mach-Zehnder-Modulator obtaining distance penalties less than 5 km at BER 10−9.

Recent studies suggested that coherence can enhance the photosynthetic yield. In this work, we show how photosynthesis can be modeled as a five-level quantum heat engine and how its environmental interaction leads to noise-induced coherence.
