Coronavirus pandemic affected the education field, especially in the implementation of the learning process which has turned into an online-based learning. This study aimed to analyze the needs of the digital-based connecting book as a media of communication between teachers at school and students' guardians or parents in order to monitor students' affective aspect at home during the pandemic era. The needs of the digital-based connecting book were analyzed through descriptive qualitative research methods and interactive data analysis techniques. The result of this study indicated that there was no implementation of digital connecting book as a media of communication between teachers and student guardians at primary school in Surakarta in the pandemic era. The communication between them were mostly done through the use of WhatsApp. However, we found out that teachers could not effectively monitor student affective aspect at home because of the lack of a structured communication system. Based on the findings, it can be summarized that the digital connecting book is needed to monitor students in the pandemic era by teachers from student guardians or parents. Additionally, the result of the analysis provided a reference for the framework of a structured communication system between teachers and student guardians in the pandemic era regarding students' affective aspect.

The present study aims to develop a Student Problem and Need Instrument (IKPS) in junior high school level. IKPS is a part of an assessment process carried out by a school counsellor, which serves as the basis for designing Guidance and Counselling program. IKPS is an Android-based application developed using Plomp and Nieveen's educational design research model. The following steps were done: (1) Preliminary research; (2) Prototyping stage; and (3) Assessment phase. In the first stage, we selected the school to conduct this study. After that, we reviewed theoretical concepts on students' needs and problem assessment instruments. The theoretical review was focused on the standard competence a student should attain according to the American School Counsellors Association (ASCA) national model. The second stage (prototyping stage) was carried out after the paper-based instrument passed the validity and reliability tests. The application was developed after the paper-based instrument was considered valid and reliable according to the result of exploratory factor analysis involving 2424 students. In the third stage, the field try-out was done in schools. The present study was conducted in two years, the first year (2019) focused on theoretical review and prototyping stage (phases 1 and 2), while the second year (2020) focused on examining the effectiveness of the product (phase 3). This article was the result of the first year of the study. The result of the first-year stage was a paper-based instrument and application prototype of students' needs and problem instruments. This product will undergo the next phase for evaluation and feasibility by considering three aspects, namely, validity, practicality, and effectiveness (Plomp & Nieven, 2013).

The present study was conducted in two years, the first year (2019) focused on theoretical review and prototyping stage (phases 1 and 2), while the second year (2020) focused on examining the effectiveness of the product (phase 3). This article was the result of the first year of the study. The result of the first-year stage was a paper-based instrument and application prototype of students' needs and problem instruments. This product will undergo the next phase for evaluation and feasibility by considering three aspects, namely, validity, practicality, and effectiveness (Plomp & Nieven, 2013).","PeriodicalId":107308,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Learning Innovation and Quality Education","volume":"138 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127882487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
This research is a case study using qualitative methods. This research aims to describe the implementation of Freedom to learn on SCIENCE learning in the MI Pelangi Alam Ponorogo. This research is a case study using qualitative methods. The data collection techniques used are interviews, observations, and documentation. Analysis of this research using a purposive sampling technique. The results showed that this natural school conducts learning by the theory of Ki Hajar Dewantara in the second principle of the student park about the implementation of free learning that is the azas of self-freedom and the freedom of mind. All the writing especially SCIENCE is always done outside the class with nature as the main source and experimentation as a method of learning. Learning is designed according to students' characteristics, 1) learning activities are conducted while playing according to the prescribed learning materials. 2) Learn through experimentation with nature and not from many SCIENCE material books. 3) visit the experts so that students better understand the SCIENCE materials in depth.
