The paper presents the results of the research on the colluvial cone (talus) dynamics study by using the lichenometric method in the basin of the Agan and Nankala rivers (Arman River basin). The obtained values of the exposure time of taluses are 385 ± 114 yr, the displacement speed of the clastic cover in the talus is 0.48 ± 0.23 m/yr. The distal parts of some cones, confined to the rocky slopes of the northern exposure, have been transformed into slope rock glaciers.

The author characterizes gold, silver, copper, lead, and zinc deposits developed within the Omolon craton terrane. Outlined are ore formations (genetic types) including the deposits. The principal features of the terrane metallogeny terrane are shown as determined by the stable structure of the crystalline basement, consolidated in Early Precambrian, which resulted in contraction of the range of mineralization genetic types and in formation of deep ore- and magma-controlling faults and large deposits.

The article presents the data from a comprehensive study of the Aksu Mo-porphyry system metasomatites (Korkodon-Nayakhan magmatic activation zone). The halo of metasomatic changes around the porphyry system, associated with the tectonic-block structure of the territory, is shown to be asymmetric. The core of the system is brought to the surface and located in a halo of kalifeldspar- muscovite metasomatites; the northwestern block is elevated and characterized by high-temperature epidote-biotite and epidote-pyroxene propylites, while in the southeastern block there is a consistent transition from kalifeldspar-sericite metasomatites to fragments of argillisite ones. The established zoning is confirmed by geochemical associations and mineralization types from the northwest to the southeast: in the northwest, Au-Bi (As, Cu) at the Solnechnoye ore occurrence; in the center, Mo (Cu, Au) at the Aksu deposit; in the southeast, Ag-Pb-Zn (Cu, Bi, As, Au) at the Vysokoye ore occurrence.

Lake El'gygytgyn is located beyond the Arctic Circle in Chukotka at 67°30' N, 172°05' E and formed following a meteorite impact that occurred 3.6 million years ago (core interval 45.79-43.65 m). In its sediments, 5 palinologic zones are distinguished; they reflect changes in paleosuccessional systems and are consistent with MIS 33, 32, and 31 (1.114-1.062 mya). During warmings, thickets of birch trees and alder were widely spread. Cliseries, caused by macroclimate changes in cold substages, are characterized by a significant reduction in tree and shrub vegetation as well as by expansion of the arctic and subarctic tundras. Grass tundras dominated and were replaced by forest tundra communities in the valleys of the Anadyr Plateau surrounding the lake. The most abrupt change of phytocenosis succession systems is observed at the border of 32 and 31 isotopic stages. The succession processes are primarily expressed in a sharp increase of birch-shrub communities in the vegetation cover and in the appearance of late succession edificators (Carpinus, Corylus, Myrica, Quercus) forming forest climax associations.

River floodplains, reaching several kilometers in width, are one of the main landscape features of the Kolyma Lowland. Their relationship with other forms of relief - yedoma, alasses, and fragments of river terraces - is seen clearly in the Bolshaya Kuropatoch'ya River basin, which is located in the Lowland between 156°30' E and 157°15' E. The first radiocarbon dating of the floodplain deposits of the Kolyma Lowland was undertaken in a study of an outcrop on the left bank of the Bolshaya Kuropatoch'ya River (71°40' N, 156°45' E). Here floodplain sediments, represented by the alternating layers of alluvial silt and peat with a total thickness of 5 m, were exposed along a steep bank of an oxbow lake. The radiocarbon results show that the formation of the modern floodplain of the Bolshaya Kuropatoch'ya River began at the end of the Middle Holocene and continued during the Late Holocene to the present. Since the vegetation cover of arctic and subarctic regions is characterized by low pollen productivity, the spore-pollen spectra of modern and fossil plant communities often include an increased amount of pollen from plant species exotic to the Arctic, brought to the site by long-distance wind transport. For a more reliable interpretation of the spore- pollen spectra of the floodplain sediments, an analysis of the modern vegetation in the Bolshaya Kuropatoch'ya River basin and in a coastal area bordering the East Siberian Sea (about 71°05' N) was carried out, accompanied by an herbarium collection. The radiocarbon-dated palynological data indicate the development of the modern Betula-Salix shrub-herbaceous tundra during the second half of the Holocene. The establishment of this vegetation community reflects the replacement of an earlier Betula forest-tundra, which had prevailed in the northern regions of Western Beringia during the Early Holocene and included Duschekia fruticosa and large shrub species of Salix. Such dramatic changes in the vegetation cover were associated with the rise in sea level about 7.000-6.000 years ago, when seas approached modern levels. This change, in turn, led to a decrease in the contrast of summer and winter temperatures and, thus, to a decrease in the continentality of the climate and a significant reduction in the growing season in the coastal regions of the East Siberian Sea.

The article presents the biographical data and the main research results of Tasyan S. Tein, archaeologist, researcher of the Laboratory of History, Archeology, and Ethnography, NEISRI. He described the main stages in the development of the ancient Eskimo culture of Northern Chukotka, reconstructed the economy and culture, researched the social structure, religious beliefs, and rituals of Eskimos. Excavations on Wrangel Island made a significant contribution to the study of the Paleo-Eskimo period. T. S. Tein obtained representative and valuable materials from the most ancient settlement of sea mammal hunters. He researched the religion and shamanism of the Asiatic Eskimos, and completed detailed descriptions of the Eskimo seasonal festivals.

The article considers modern concepts of spatial development, which determine the theoretical and methodological basis for the development of regional economy, from theories of regional growth, based on production function, to clusters that take into account the heterogeneity of territorial systems, the processes of economy concentration and settling. Studying theoretical concepts of spatial development is necessary for seeking optimal mechanisms for the territorial organization of Russia's northeastern regions, peculiar in monospecification, focal system for organizing production and settling, all typical for the northern economy.

The author analyzes the process of collectivization of the Vilyuney Chukchi local group. Chukchi reindeer herders put up armed resistance to Soviet reforms. The central event of the Vilyuney Chukchi collectivization, known as the Beryozovo village riot, has a great resonance. The author traces the historical, social, and ethnocultural background of the Vilyuneу Chukchi long-term opposition to the Soviet power. The conclusion is that during collectivization the Vilyuney Chukchi were following the ethnic interaction stereotypes developed in the previous historical period.

Some issues in biogeographic reconstructions of marine faunas of the geologic past are considered. The nature of biogeographic boundaries is discussed, and the criteria for identifying and the rank of established biochories, in particular, the applicability of various indices of biogeographic similarity, are considered. It is concluded that only the use of the entire complex of paleobiogeographic methods permits to reconstruct the features of the ancient organisms geographical differentiation most reliably. Such reconstructions should be carried out for the most fractional time intervals at the spe- cies level and based on the integration of data for all fauna groups.
