RESUMEN: Este estudio, tras analizar las diversas hipótesis sobre la identidad del novelista Juan de Flores, se decanta por la que propuso Vicente Beltrán de Heredia. Se trata de un clérigo sevillano, residente en Italia durante trece años, protegido del prior de la iglesia del Santo Sepulcro de Toro. Tras la localización de diversos documentos, se establece su relación con su padre, el mercader Fernando de Flores, su vinculación con la ciudad de Toro, especialmente con la poderosa familia de los Fonseca, y con la ciudad de Ourense, donde escribió algunas de sus obras. A partir de su Crónica [incompleta] de los Reyes Católicos, se fundamentan algunas de las teorías previamente expuestas. Se establece finalmente su relación con la Corte castellana, así como su probable fecha de nacimiento y su relación con Sevilla. En este trabajo, nos proponemos analizar la estrecha relación que existe entre los problemas enumerados y los núcleos míticos elegidos para su representación y descripción. ABSTRACT: Filomena´s Eighth Epistle contains the description of a fabulous garden. Through the ecfrasis of the brief mythological stories that adorn the elements of this space, the poetic voice reveals abundant reflections. The topics of those considerations point to problems related to his particular vision of poetry, his relationship with other poets (crossed by the permanent complaint against the envy of his colleagues), the complex question of patronage and the gratitude of the Nobels and other issues related to his work as a poet. RESUMEN Lo que pretendemos en estas páginas es ahondar en las estrategias retóricas que articuló Lope para describir la condición de Francisco Pérez de Amaya, jurista antequerano, en las epístolas “primera” y “octava” de La Filomena; el modo en que lo atacó recurriendo a metáforas y símiles que se han pasado por alto en los estudios relacionados. Al analizar tales imágenes, observaremos el desplazamiento profesional y el vejamen personal que Lope le encaja en este peculiar retrato, y saldrán a flote referencias cruzadas y otros aspectos interesantes sobre el imaginario de nuestro poeta y su posicionamiento frente a los cultos. ABSTRACT Throughout theses pages we will intend to examine the rhetorical strategies displayed by Lope when describing Francisco Pérez de Amaya, a lawyer from Antequera, in the first and eighth epistles included in La Filomena. We will examine, therefore, the way in which the poet attacked him drawing on metaphores and similes that, up to now, have been overlooked in specialised and related papers. Once analyzed those images, we will discover the peculiar portrait made by Lope, full of professional displacements and personal satires. Together with it, some cross-references and interesting aspects on our poet’s imaginary will arise, as well as his stance against the “cultos”.

RESUMEN: La segunda parte de La Filomena actualiza la contienda Spongia-Expostulatio Spongiae como un mecanismo de reivindicación de la figura de Lope como poeta cortesano. Este trabajo se propone analizar las estrategias de defensa desplegadas en los dos parlamentos de Filomena. Consideramos que su alegato está construido en torno a dos ejes. En el primer discurso, la erudición desplegada a través de sentencias y aforismos funciona como un elemento de legitimación. En el segundo, donde realmente defiende sus obras, el encuadre que ofrecen a su defensa dos fragmentos de La Arcadia, valida la totalidad de sus obras consolidándose como un verdadero poeta castellano. ABSTRACT: The second part of La Filomena updates the Spongia-Expostulatio Spongiae contest as a mechanism to claim Lope as a courtly poet. This paper intends to analyze the defense strategies deployed in the two Filomena parliaments. We consider that his allegation is elaborated around two axes. In the first speech, the erudition displayed through sentences and aphorisms functions as an element of legitimation. In the second, where he really defends his works, the framework offered by two fragments of La Arcadia to his defense, validates all his works consolidating himself as a true Castilian poet.
